Also, the Jack O'Lantern head raised an interesting question for me while watching the film: it takes me at least an hour or so to carve a pumpkin, how long did it take Michael to sit there and carve that head? lol

What exactly is the difference between the two head sculpts? I still can't tell any real differences besides the slight change to the hair

According to Randy the one with the more maintained hair has darker shading in and around the eyes while the head with the more frizzled hair has realistically painted eyes.

Doesn't sound like it's coming any time soon. They've been unable to get a license for the original films and sounds like they have given up trying for now.

The only thing I think this figure needs is a distressed head sculpt for fighting Michael and a few more hands, but outside of that, I think they packed it with all the major no-brainer accessories.

I think the MSRP is a little steep for what you get, after all I think the Ultimate Sarah Conner went for $22.99 most places and that figure came with three headsculpts, however since this is the first figure using Jamie Lee Curtis’s likeness I guess this is the best we could hope for.

I really hope the sales of these two open the license up for NECA to acquire the rights to the original film. I really want 78 Michael and Laurie. They could even get away with a battled damaged version of Laurie and they would only have to give her a new shoulder for her torn shirt.

NECA raised the prices on all of their figures a while ago. For example when the Dream Warriors Freddy first came out years ago he was $24.99 like all ultimates but when he was redistributed a few months ago he was around $27.99. Given that this broad price jump happened just after or around the death of TRU I speculate it's an adaptation result of NECA trying to survive the loss of their main distributor.
If they don't get the original at least 2018 Michael just looks like 1978 Michael but grimier. Obviously Laurie would be the really different figure available.

Neca could always just take an easy way out, and simply include a clean, un-rotten mask headsculpt with another figure or an accessory pack that could work with the current Ultimate Myers body, the way Hasbro does with many Marvel Legends heads, relying on the consumer to simply figure out how to kitbash their own.

They could as long as there's no license issues. I'm not entirely sure why there would be but it's possible that if they made a pristine mask as in the original film there might be some legal issue since they don't have the rights for the original. As it currently stands this is why I'm very happy with their 2018 Michael's alternate head with the black eyes and a cleaner paint, it's still got the sculpted lines and wrinkles but the flatter white helps obscure those at a distance.

I must be in the minority, but I like the weathered mask way more than the original.

Maybe, I like them about equally. Obviously the original is the original and therefor a classic but there is something creepier about the new aged version. I think there's something inherently eerie about decaying things and the way his mask has wrinkled and "grown old" plays off of that for me.

Maybe WE are in the minority. I like this version too. I am not looking to collect every Michael version. I just want a difinitive Michael Meyers and for me this is it. I like the weathered look better because even though it may not be like the original I cant see a serial killer running around killing people with a squeaky clean mask. I love this figure and version. It is surely my preference. If we never get another I am ok with this one.

I like both masks equally. The new one does a great job of recreating what the original would look like today. Of course, I also read somewhere that they used William Shatner's face today when they started to create the design of the mask.
