Before the thread gets derailed with the ko... Really love how MAFEX captured the original look of Venom... it really looks like a 3D version of ASM #300. makes me want a line of 1960’s Ditko Spidey figures... web armpits and all.
Would love vulture, doc ock, gobby, lizard, scorpion, etc with very simple lines and shading. Really wish I didn’t sell my asm #300... would love to display it as a background for this figure.... |
The Venom figure that comes closest to his ASM300 look is the old Toybiz 14 inch rotocast figure from the early 90s.That one has the bulk that this one is lacking.

Nah they needed to bulk out the traps, neck and torso a bit and the legs especially for it to be spot on with the McFarlane version. But close enough anyway tho...in that shot of him from the back he looks a little scrawny but that other shot where they recreated the McFarlane pose from those two issues when he came back looks pretty dam good! I wish one of the promotional images for this was with their upcoming Spidey figure, just to gauge how the two of them look together.

So, how does this guy scale with Mezco 1:12 spidey?

I got mine today...I'm really quite pleased with him actually! Yes the (non magnetic)feet do slip off a little easy and he could do with a alternate 'extended tongue' head and maybe he could be a tiny bit bigger... but everything else is spot on. He's bulky and muscular, poses great really the styling really evokes the Venom from the pages of the Spider-man I read as a kid (80s/90s McFarlane etc), not the more OTT versions we've seen since. I love the way his webs wrap messily around his arms, very cool. It's overpriced for what it is, there is no getting away from that, but it's a fantastic figure and really compliments the Mafex Comic Ver. Spider-man I already have.
Anyway here's my quick photos of this awesome figure. Note to UK buyers don't go with AmiAmi you'll get charged customs :( |
