3 years....so does it start January 2020? I thought I read somewhere Mattel had through spring of 2020...

Between McFarlane getting the DC license (which I imagine means no NECA DC/AVP 2 packs) and the sequel to Alien Isolation being a freaking mobile game, 2019 is starting pretty craptacularly.

Key details from a second IGN article:
- Spin Master will be focusing on “Mass Market” appeal toys. - Won’t see any Product until at least San Diego Comic-Con, if not later. - They are targeting the same fans who were collecting DC Multiverse and DC Universe Classics. - Will definitely include comics, movies, animated series and video game inspired figures. - The official license is for “DC Multiverse Collector Figures”. - McFarlane will take over some areas that DC Collectibles held, including Statues and Busts. |

If it manages that, and at bare minimum matches the Mattel levels of articulation (hoping for Legends-level, but not holding my breath), then this could turn out great. McFarlane is a company I could see doing more off-beat characters that haven't gotten figures yet. I'm going to take the 'wait and see' approach and, until then, grab the Mattel figures that are slated for release. (The biggest bummer, of course, is that Mattel is just now getting back into the swing of making better DC figures, both in terms of construction/articulation, and character selection, but it is what it is, I suppose) |
Hope this leads to more classic movie/TV show characters that Mattel neglected to do and doesn't focus solely on comic-based characters. Mattel's new Signature series last year got me really excited with the Shipp Flash, Devito Penguin, and Carter Wonder Woman, but I was disappointed they lost the license before they could get to do Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman, Helen Slater Supergirl, or more characters from Superman the Movie and the 1989 Batman. Hoepfully MacFarlane will pick up where Mattel left off in giving us more of those characters.

True. And with the bad blood between McFarlane and NECA, I'm sure Todd won't give any slack unless DC forces him to.
|
It seems I'm much happier with this revelation than most people here. Ideally, NECA getting the license to produce adult collector/premium figures would have been better, but I'm not disappointed with McFarlane. I was worried that Spinmaster was going to attempt to take over Multiverse and fail miserably because they have so little experience with action figures.
|
I just read the interview with Todd. So he says that dc wants him to fill that void that dc collectibles has left?
Is dc collectibles done? Are we still getting the animated Batman figures that are due out this year? I knew changes were coming with dcc,but this sounds like they are done. Someone needs to get a hold of Jim. |
Why is DCC giving up on action figures? Poor sales?

I remember someone saying that the way the license was set up, only Mattel could produce figures within a certain price range(around $10 to $20) and that was the reason NECA couldn't release 7" DC figures, because they would have been in the same price range, not because they were in a similar scale. I could be way off with this.
|
Neca confirmed in a tweet that the McFarlane deal (2020) doesn't get in the way of their planned DC figures which are releasing in 2019
|
What about once the deal begins? Does that mean the end of 1/4 scale figures?
|
The handling the movie and TV stuff is interesting. Does McFarlane do good likenesses? Mattel’s were really subpar, especially in comparison to Legends.
|
I'd say the sculpts are a much higher quality than Mattel's, but the articulation is a bit dated. Just take a look at their Walking Dead figures as well as their recent Captain Kirk and Picard figures.
