I don't get the point of doing animated versions of characters that never got animated when there are ones that did without figures. Why the hell is Red Hood and Deathstroke coming out before the likes of Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Captain Boomerang, Trickster, Piedpiper, etc?

BTW, were any NEW Essentials revealed?

OriginalFire 02-17-2019 11:12 PM

Finally a good Wonder Woman statue

Unless they were in a section that didn't allow photographs or video, No. I watched a walkthrough video on Saturday and the only Essentials shown were the 9 figures seen in the Toyark's gallery. Much to my irritation, the guy interviewing DCC's Jim Fletcher didn't seem to have a clue what was going on with the DC toy license. The first fan question he asked Jim was about whether we would get more Essentials figures and he immediately thought people were asking if there were any figures on display. I turned it off after that, smh.

Hopefully Jay C or Boog Nice will interview them before the end of Toy Fair.

No, it isn't. It's the most overrated and over-hyped toyline ever. The hip articulation is pure rubbish, you have superheros who can only sit in 90 degree and barely move their legs backwards and can't do the splits nor high kick, not to mention the ridiculous amount of reused bucks, painted details instead of sculpted ones and minimal paint as well. The funny thing, is the old Toybiz which was groundbreaking at it's time, is still better than any newer Marvel Legends.

I agree with you about legends but DONT agree with you about Essentials

Back to the topic:: I want nightWing, harley and animated 2 face

they hit the nail on the head with that Lobo mad max looking vehicle, WOW. they should make that an action figure and vehicle and it would fly off the shelves, do you here me DC, if youre in here....

Sorry, but I'm calling bullshit. I have a few Toy Biz figures and they absolutely suck ass. Sure, they each having their own sculpts is nice, but what's the point when Magneto has gorilla arms and his arms can't even rest straight downward next to his body, Silver Surfer's knees don't have any ratchet joints in his knees, making it pointless for him to have magnets to keep him onto his board when his knees fall over, knocking him off in the first place, and Red Skull's fingers are loose as hell?

Hasbro's line is vastly superior. Even the crappy Hasbro figures are way better than the Toy Biz shit I have. I don't have my old Black Widow nor Winter Soldier with a single loose joint.

So I'm confused, was the dude interviewing DCC the idiot or was the DCC dude the idiot? The way you have it worded is confusing.

However, as a DC fan, I am not impressed in the slightest. I have no desire to buy a single DC figure right now, which is a shame because both DCC and Mattel are pretty much just jacking off all over their fanbase.

Sorry, I was refering to the the interviewer.

I guess then the next question is, is this guy from a new channel? After all, my first interviews I did at Denver Comic Con in 2016 came out pretty bad. It taught me how to NOT conduct an interview. I finally figured it out by the last day of the con, but even I had a hard time sitting through them when I was editing them.

Because this is a BTAS line and not a Flash anything line, but just consider who these characters are versus the ones you mentioned and you'll get your answer as to why.

redfox 02-18-2019 03:11 PM

Definitely keeping an eye out for the Essentials Wonder Woman & Cheetah. Both of the figs on display have gorgeous sculpts and paint-work. Hope the final products have the same.

Also, how many years have we been waiting on this Wonder Woman?? Feels like a million. :p

I looked up the Youtube channel that did the walk through and it's been around since 2011. But I don't follow the channel to know if the interviewer was new. Also, when I went looking for the video and channel info, I noticed that the interview was a replay of a live stream so maybe the interviewer was nervous due to it being a live event.

Pixel Dan posted his own walk through but he didn't interview Jim Fletcher. The DCC rep Dan spoke with did add some additional info.
  • The BTAS figures that didn't appear in the show were designed with input from Bruce Timm and Ty Templeton. Bruce has been writing back stories for the figures and Ty, who did the artwork for the BTAS comic book, designed the figures.
  • They're working to bring more DC characters to the animated style of the show.
  • They are working to specifically add more ROM to their figures including the animated line.
  • DC Essentials was described as DCC's core line of action figures. What was on display was meant to represent the product that would be available in 2019.
  • The DCC rep stated that they were happy with Essentials that they would keep pushing forward with the line.

Obviously they didn't say anything about McFarlane but that last comment indicates that they are at least planning to continue making DC Essentials figures.

Wonderful Toys 02-18-2019 07:13 PM

So the rumors about DCC being folded aren't true?

I seem to remember them saying something very similar about the Icons line before they killed that.

I've heard that they're being absorbed into WB Consumer Products but from the way they spoke at TF, they're still planning on delivering figures and statues to fans. The amount they showed at this show did seem smaller though.

So that's all they are doing for 2019? Superman and Batman related stuff? Wow, lame as fuck.

jwyss234 02-18-2019 10:59 PM

But there is still a chance that there could be more figures in 2020. That's better than the line being canceled.

Lody666 02-19-2019 09:41 AM

Stop already with the GD blind bags.

Skoob 02-19-2019 11:44 AM

Yeah, the blind bags are bizarre. What are they thinking, that we collect randomly, like some kind of peanut scramble? And why the 4" scale? I'm no kid: I want a scale I can see so that I can appreciate small details. Better would be a scale to match the other things on my shelf, i.e., SIX inches.

And of course, the only one of these that I want -- IF it was on a minimum SIX inch scale -- the very first one in the original B&W series, designed by Mazzucchelli -- is the one they deliberately omit. Uh huh. Yeah, that figures.

I wish them every success with their black bag peanut scramble. SMH.

SpasticPlastic 02-19-2019 02:38 PM

Just buy the 7 pack box sets as they come out, if you don't like the blind bags.
