I've looked at several versions... Honestly the One:12 is the best head sculpt imho. The Marvel Legends costumed version is the most hit/miss. If I were to get a Legends, I like the bomber jacket version better with Goose. Face paint job seems better.

I don't care about smiles on any action figure except The Joker and Venom.

I know you specified Marvel characters, but I constantly hear Henry Cavil doesn't smile enough as Superman. Like constantly I read this in Instagram and Youtube comments.

This is just food for thought, but maybe the reason people don't complain about Daredevil and Punisher not smiling, but they do about Superman and Captain Marvel, is the very different tone of character. DD and Punisher are dark, gritty, and frankly pretty morose, but Superman and Cpt Marvel are lighter, brighter, more hopeful characters. Maybe their lack of smiles or joy is just a lot more noticeable.

Just a thought, I haven't seen the movie

What fresh hell is this, now?

I'm good with her absent smile because it looks normal on the helmeted head, her eyes are painted to look a bit droopy and tired, so it throws the look off a bit.
It's weird how often this comes up, or a Captain Marvel thread devolves into some discussion about her or her looks. The plebs are really upset about this movie ($188 million globally in its first twenty four hours, manbabies.) She gets told to smile in the movie by some shitbox dork, as well. Apparently because women hear this a lot? I have no idea why, but yeah it would annoy the hell out of me, too.

He doesn't need me to have his back on this, but I'll just put it out there that DTL has nothing but respect for women.

I'm kind of wondering -between Select, Hasbro, Figuarts, and HotToys- if Brie just has one of those really difficult to lock-down faces (like Shattner). Most all of them are doing the same sculpt so it could be that if she went in for scans this is just what she gave them... I don't know... but so far I think HotToys nailed a strong, serious look the best with the marvel legend standard figure a close second and everyone else is just coming across bored. As far as the "Smile" goes I thought she smiled plenty in the movie and think the "smile" issue is coming more from her tweet about the TSA incident than anything else-

webz 03-09-2019 09:41 PM

Just watched it. Brie was awesome. Sorry, but the hate campaign is totally wrong. This movie is up there with Ironman and cap first avenger.

No need to apologize- everyone has different tastes. Glad you enjoyed it. But I think there are just as many people white knighting a slightly below average Marvel Movie as the best thing since Infinity War as there are trolls saying it's the worst Marvel Movie ever. (It's neither IMO) I will say the reviews over on IMDB are getting hilarious.

Thank you! I've been feeling a sense of dread, clouded by negativity, but a comment like this relieves me of much baggage and brings me back into balance. I'm looking forward to the movie. If it's half as good as Iron Man (2008), then it's going to be fun.

Damn the last Star Wars movie for hyper-sensitizing people to social agendas. It's having a toxic, negative effect on the entertainment industry as a whole.

I grew up in the 80’s & 90’s. She was a 3rd tier background character in a few X-men and avengers comics, but was never anyone I ever cared remotely about. Until this movie, I think the only time I ever noticed her was as “Ms Bossypants” in Superhero Squad. In this movie, she was a “what if Superman was done the Marvel Way” and I thought they did a good job. Brie smiled throughout the movie, and was warm when she needed to be and stoic when the mission called for it. Full honesty... I thought she was a more convincing military character than Chris Evan’s first portrayal of Captain America... but he had an excuse, being a cartoonist/chorus girl and never originally a fully trained conventional soldier.

Anyhoo... back to topic... I will DEFINITELY pick this up if a red/blue/yellow version is released, and probably the Mezco one:12 as well.

Imho it’s a better story than Ironman, but Robert Downey Jr was so perfectly cast as Tony that he’s really in a world custom built for him... it’s hard to truly compare. However, it’s easier to compare to Cap: First Avenger or Black Panther. It really grounds Marvel as a relatable character, and does a FANTASTIC job of building upon Nick Fury as a character. Just overall a great end product. The world is just as vivid as the title character. I don’t care one way or the other about Brie as a person. I don’t agree with almost ANY Hollywood types or most musicians as far as social/political leanings. But I care about the entertainment value of the movies. And for me, Captain Marvel easily tops the “origin story” category.

The nasty trolling reminds me of the seething hatred of the Venom movie by the throngs of Gaga fanatics and trolls lamenting the pg13 rating. This movie will overcome the machismo trolls. Is it a powerful pro-woman film? Yes. But that’s not the focus of the film, just like it wasn’t for Wonderwoman or Bumblebee. Definitely a movie young daughters should see.

The only issue I have is Marvel Select, switch it up...Marvel Legends does a Captain Marvel MCU figure, than Marvel Select does one, C’mon! If Marvel Legends does a MCU figure, Marvel Select should do a Comic figure or something different, this thing Marvel Select has been doing recently, has been a little redundant, IMO, which is why haven’t purchased and Marvel Select in awhile...It just seems off to me what Marvel Select is doing, plus Marvel Select figures are about 10.00 more, so if Marvel Select is going to make the same MCU figure as Marvel Legends, it better be better for that 10.00 dollars more, and not just a little better...

AFU 03-10-2019 08:47 AM

As a Marvel Fan, will see the movie no matter what opinion I see or read...

Love this picture, and love the Nine Inch Nails shirt she is wearing, she looks beautiful and badass...My favorite Marvel hero is Black Widow, and she never smile, only when she makes someone bite the dust...Lol!

Note: Please, do not take my comment the wrong way, Arker community, I love this site because it is fun, for the most part, as soon as I see post that have to do with things offensive in nature, I scroll through that thread like a horse with eye blockers on! I come on site for enjoyment, not for comments bashing someone or one another.

For me, I usually go with Marvel Select for the extra smidge of detail that goes into the character design, and the 7in scale instead of 6 inch.

It doesn’t always work, however. Winter Soldier looks like Night at the Museum Caveman Ben Stiller.

I saw the movie and I loved it. Top three Marvel Universe movie for me. I have no clue what all this smile crap is about. What does it matter?
The problem with this sculpt is the eyes. The eyelids are too far down and run straight across. It makes her look like the tired emoji in my text box. Other than that it looks really good. Nice colors, sculpt of both heads, (other than the eyes) etc but I wish they had done something different with the effects. It isn't really fire like the accessory appears to portray. It should look more like energy and longer effects. Personally though I like the red, blue, and gold colors. I dont really care for this uniform for her after seeing the movie. I will likely wait for the inevitable release of this figure in that uniform.

kollekxon 03-10-2019 08:45 PM

Im not getting this figure. The masked head looks good. The unmsaked head, Not so much. Its the eyes. Makes the face look she is about to sleep. Also the upper torso as it transitions to the abdomen looks offf , just a bit off.

Hmm. Never heard that before, except for the overall complaints about the "grim and gritty" nature of the DC movies that seems to rub most people the wrong way. But you make a point about the archetypes of the characters involved.

I did. Captain Marvel smiles plenty...just not when she's fighting, of course. I was quite happy overall with her portrayal. It's a really good movie.

^This. I've been wanting a Captain Marvel figure, but every single interpretation of Brie from the various Captain Marvel product lines are just off-putting. Some are so close you just can't put your finger on what makes it look "off", then others are just straight-up horrible.

... I still want an a OG Genis-vell

Marvel Legends are probably the best so far, though they have her eye colour too light which throws off the likeness somewhat.
