Yup, I completely forgot that there isn't a 1/4 scale Splinter.

Sure I can. Read my post again. NECA isn't going to invest in their website for 2-3 acute sale events a year when the products are guaranteed to sell out, regardless of who buys them. if you miss out you can also get it at retail, wait for a possible second sale (which has occured with their exclusives on many occasions) or get it on eBay/secondary. That's just how it is.

Look, if you're slow to checkout that's on you, bad/ slow internet connection is also on you, and unless your ticketmaster, the whole "reserve your cart thing," as you said and is also an impossibility for most entities due to expense.

With that said, the broken checkout button was just a failure on their part, plain and simple and a worthy thing to invest in I might add. And while they still sold their product, many people missed out for that very specific reason so it's a pretty valid complaint. I'm neither here nor there because at the end of the day there are always winners and losers in collecting and in life, but not everything NECA does is worth or needs defending. A lot definitely is and I'll sing their praises when it's due, but I'll also call them out on what I perceive to be their flaws.

Diamond Select has subpar articulation on almost everything. With the rise of figure displays and ACBA it's a no-brainer to add articlation. The paint on the The Real Ghostbusters figures was mediocre. Some of the Marvel Selects are good but the articulation still stinks. You are correct that Hasbro is actually doing a decent job of fan service but they are so opaque you would hardly know unless you follow their convention panels. Randy (and Brian from Super7) are front and center for folks like PixelDan to answer direct questions, provide as much news as possible, and show their love for their products. Hasbro, Playmates, Mattel, and Diamond don't really do that. Zach Oat kind of does that for Diamond, I guess, but to a lesser extent.

I wouldn't exactly call DST's articulation sub-par, but to each their own I guess.

McFarlane isn't doing anything for fans. His toy empire crumbled and the license holders abandoned him or he simply let them expire. He did it his way and the hobby and collectors moved on in another direction and he failed to adapt. Now he's playing catch up but, frankly, I haven't seen anything especially noteworthy come out of them so far. Fortnite and GoT? Fortnite is old news and largely appeals to kids and teens. GoT is over. They are YEARS behind on those figures being relevant (not blaming them for that but releasing GoT figures as the show ends is bad timing). They have Mortal Kombat but those aren't especially noteworthy either. I was an old school McFarlane collector but they have really failed to pivot as things changed.

McFarlane may be playing catch up, but they are catching up really quickly. While I don't own any of McFarlane's Fortnite figures, apparently they are making bank off of them and are wildly acclaimed among the collector community. That success is the reason why Todd has said the articulation seen in the Fortnite line will be the basis for all of their figure lines going forward. I'm not a DC guy, but I have a feeling McFarlane Toys is going to re-surge in a big way in 2020 when they release their DC Superhero figure line up. Time will tell, but I think a lot of collectors will be really impressed by them.

Online GameStop Pre-orders Live for the NECA TMNT 1990 Movie 7-Inch Shredder, Foot Soldiers, and Splinter - The Toyark - News

dukefett 08-30-2019 12:57 PM

I'm getting charged $40 for shipping on each figure. This happened last time too and then they added a bundle with all 4. So I'll preorder and then cancel if they add the bundle.

Splinter would benefit from an extra pair of grip hands for the nunchucks, but outside the chains and weapons rack this set looks promising.

Now if only we could see a release like this for John Conner...

They didn’t give splinter extra hands for one very good reason... secret of the ooze has splinter using a bow and arrow. This way, you gotta buy another splinter when Neca releases “Ultimate Splinter”

Does this have all the bells and whistles that the SDCC set had? Seems like the only accessory I don't see for the individual releases is the sweet black weapons rack. Is the rack included with any of these figures?

Placed my pre-order at Gamestop, and they are charging me a shipping fee for each figure. Do they really ship them all separately? If not, then I cannot understand why there are individual shipping fees. I've come across other stores like the WB Ebay store that charges individual shipping fees for every item ordered, then still ships multiple items together in one shipment. Seems like a huge rip-off, but even being charged shipping for each item is still cheaper than getting the SDCC boxed set on the secondary market.

No weapons rack. You do get a full set of hands per foot ninja, compared to one set with the sdcc set. Also there is an ooze canister, and Michelangelo’s nunchucks with splinter.

Cool, I didn't know that the SDCC set didn't include the 'chucks or ooze canister. Kind of a weird inclusion here since it seems like Splinter wouldn't actually be able to hold the items due to the hands being sculpted with the fingers open.
I think I'd still rather have the Weapons Rack included because it's much more useful than a bunch of hands that I'll probably never use :p Oh well, I can always make my own weapons rack, or at least attempt to make one.

Still a bit miffed about the shipping cost...it comes out to $32 bucks for the entire set of four figures. Might have ordered a couple more Foot Soldiers if I didn't have to pay so much for shipping. Pretty steep price to pay but still better than the after-market prices!

darthschroeder 08-31-2019 05:34 AM

Seems like there was an option to order all four figures as a bundle. I didn't notice that the first time I was on their site. It eliminates the having to pay shipping on all four items.

Does anyone know how to cancel orders on the site? I need to cancel the first order I placed, but when I type in my order# and email address I get a message saying that both the email and order# are invalid. I get this message even when I use the link provided in the order confirmation email GS sent me. I hear their customer service department is extremely lacking and their website doesn't offer much of an explanation either.

Splinter is a big difference in this set. Instead of the captured version of Splinter, you get this cleaner version. So this set also won’t include the shackles, and warehouse crate like the SDCC set has. However you do gain a slice of pizza, an ooze canister, and nunchucks for him. No weapons rack with this one either. You do gain gripping hands for left and right for the foot soldiers, HUGE plus!

Can't wait to get these! It's night and day being able to order and get these versus the cartoon packs at Target.

Bah. I love getting the Target releases with zero problem, and have people in forums and reddit screaming "witchcraft" at me and all the posts about the evil plots of NECA for world domination through the collectibles market.

I see Bebop and Rocksteady shelfwarming in my town, but never have seen the Gamestop movie releases (I go into Gamestop MAYBE once a year - I retired from gaming).

dukefett 02-03-2020 03:05 PM

Just got charged for these, hope they ship soon!
