I'm really happy they did Ms. Marvel as the first female. She's had a pretty major storyarc in the comics as of late. Pretty much ever since House of M. And with Dark Reign it looks to be getting even bigger. Plus as was mentioned above, she has major connections to the X-Men. Especially Rogue and Mystique. Who with Storm will hopefully be the next females.
Also, interestingly enough... the first appearance Ms. Marvel also works perfectly as the Fake "Ms. Marvel" who appears to be a member of the Dark Avengers. Or even as Ultra Girl from Avengers: The Initiative. Which means that not only does it satisfy the first appearance folks, but it works as another villain for our collection if we want to use it that way. Hey Shin, I agree that we need Winter Soldier and New Cap at some point. What about a 'Evolution of Bucky' 3-Pack, like the Star Wars 3-Packs. Bucky, Winter Soldier, and New Captain America. I'd buy that for a dollar. :D |

Although, once Firestar comes out, we really only need Iceman and we'd have all three. |

As far as the later waves go, I think the must buys for me are anything to do with X-men and Spiderman. I'll probably get Captain America. Would have loved a Punisher, but the two versions Hasbro produced are just too ugly to justify, IMO. Maybe I'll get the second version and get new weapons for him. I am particularly looking forward to the female characters. Judging from Ms. Marvel, it looks like the molds for the female characters are gonna be great. I always felt the GI Joe molds for the women in the Modern line were really ugly and a sort of strange, old-lady postured look. Where as Ms. Marvel's mold looks like it should: feminine and "comic acurate". Can't wait for Rogue to come out. Hope they go with the Jim Lee look. I also love the Hulk figure. Gotta go with classic green on that one. It's great that he's bigger in size than the others. Bottom line: I haven't been this excited about a line of toys since I saw the first images of the Joe 25th line. |
My point with Ms. Marvel and a few of the other choices is this - I straight up do not read comics! I grab G.I. Joe and collect the trades when I hear something was good. I know I'm not alone in my point of view. My comic collecting days have been over for 15 years now. So what I know of Current Marvel is limited, Civil War, Marvel Zombies and a few other select story's. What Ms. Marvel is currently doing, few people who are collecting Marvel Action Figures are going to care about. She is not main stream POP Culture
Now I'm not saying this character should not get made but this soon in the line? I'm sure the 6" guys who have been collecting this stuff for years are sick of Rouge, Storm, Fire Star, Emma Frost, Jean Grey and the 20 other Iconic Marvel Females that have been produced and repainted to death. I however have 2 Marvel Characters in my action figure collection. The main reason is I always wanted a solid 3 3/4 action figure line. Now here it is before us and from what I gather from reading the interview in toy fare, the Hasbro Team is going heavy with the current comic nods to characters showing up at comic stands. You know what, go for it! Hardcore Marvel Fans deserve that, but get the Core Teams on the shelf at the same time before you go after characters that are not as main stream in Marvel Pop Culture. |

I think I have a tear in my eye after that one big guy! :D For real I agree with everything you just said. I'm by no means a Marvel guy and don't think I will be again. Cap is a MUST have for me and there are a few others that I'd love to get. Lord knows if they make a Cable that is good I'm all over that one. This line has legs that's for sure. I just wish DC would see the articulation is what is needed in their line. |

Well, Ms. Marvel until recently was the leader of the Avengers.
So yeah, she's hardly a obscure or minor character getting the nod. |

For example, both Toybiz and Hasbro have yet to make a 6" Marvel Legends Extremis armor Iron Man, yet here he is already in the 1st wave of Marvel Universe. That design has been in demand for years. In the Marvel Legends line you had a lot of the Classic iconic armors from the classic, to 1st appearance, to the wave 8 version(pre-extremis), Hulkbuster, to Modular and others such as Silver Centurion, but never the Extremis. So I think Hasbro is addressing both fans who want modern versions and fans that want classic versions. Comic book fans have always wanted a toyline that followed the current books, but those are few and far between outside of DC Direct's releases. At the same time, classic characters are always in demand, so I think we will see all of the classic versions we want soon enough. Moon Knight from wave 4 can double as the classic one, in fact, by the way his hood is sculpted, he looks more like the 70's version. I think the current versions of the characters are good for starting the line, and I think classic characters will guarantee it's longevity. In this way, both parties win(especially since there are a TON of classic characters they can make!). I am itching gor a early 90's Xmen team, I want battle packs for both the Blue and Gold teams. Playsets. Danger Room. Daily Bugle. At this scale, it is cheaper to take the risk of making playsets. For example what if we got a modular Danger Room? Modular components/stackable rooms to make the Triskellion from Ultimates? Hall of Armors for Iron Man w/exclusive training armor? After the 1st year or so I would not be surprised if Classic versions outnumber or come close to the number of modern versions of characters. Quote:

With wave 1 already arriving in Singapore and waves 3 and 4 already revealed in Toyfare, anyone else think these will actually hit the states next month instead of march? I sure hope so! See I, like many of you, have always wanted a joe scale Marvel line. 3-3/4" is a timeless scale, you can't kill it, we all know many have tried, but it keeps coming back!
The possibilities are endless especially considering that this is a comic based line, nearly everything Hasbro has worked into their other 3-3/4" lines can fit in here, such as comic packs, battle packs, evolutions sets, playsets and vehicles. Iron Man's hall of armors is a perfect fit for Evolutions sets. The whole point of an evolutions set is to see versions of the character through progression of time, and a heavy emphasis on accessories, in Iron Man's case, his armor! I crave battle packs. It is the easiest way to either troop build, complete teams, or collect a rogues gallery all at once. Comic packs alone could automically consist of a huge roster. I have a feeling this line, has the potential to outlive Marvel Legends, and outlast any Marvel toy line that came before it. I truly think the big battle in the toy aisle next year in this scale is between this line and Mattel's DC Inifinite Heroes line. We still don't know how Mattel's new IH figures will turn out next year with new articulation, or what plans they have for playsets vehicles, while at this point, most of us including myself already think Hasbro has won the battle. |
Until Mattel proves otherwise, Marvel has already won the battle. They pretty much nailed it with the first offerings and have only room to grow.

Yeah, the Mattel Infinite Zeroes line is awful.
Shoddy paint, articulation, among other things. Character selection is great, if they're trying to market just to collectors. But the problems mean that most collectors are going to pass on them cause they're just awful. And let's not forget Mattel's horrible availability problems. |
If I am not mistaken there are at least 35 figures planned for this line next year. I wonder who the rest of them will be? I bet by SDCC this line will be HUGE! I hope we get swappable heads too, it would be awesome to see the wave 1 Wolverine repainted into the brown costume with swappable unmasked head. Maybe a variant would be the unmasked head with a cigar in mouth.

After re-reading the New Toy Fare again, I really want that Nick Fury figure. He is perfect. I wonder what the requirements to get him will be?
Also Punisher version 2 looks sooo much better, more proportionate then the one Destro proofiled. |

1 subject 2 sculpting 3 articulation 4 accessories For me I'd say DC wins on subject. I'd rather have Batman than Wolverine or Superman than Spiderman any day of the week. But that is just me. Sculpting is going to go to Marvel on this one. Articulation goes to Marvel and as far as accessories........ well it's about the same. Right now Marvel is running away with this one. I just wish DC would take a hint and get their act together. |

Given we're still seeing previews of new figures for next year with the current articulation, it makes one wonder just when the improvements will be phased in. I was going to collect the Titans figures, but after seeing the terrible scale of figures like Robin for next year... umm, huge pass. Wonder Girl's normal sized and Robin only comes up to her bosom. He's a total midget.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...wondergirl.jpg And I won't even get into Wonder Girl's awful bowed legs. |
At least Robin gets a good view. :)

To top all that off, I'm not hearing anything about ball hips in the new articulation so they're still going to be fundamentally lame, imho. As nice as 'fully articulated' SW figs are nowadays, they're still just custom fodder to me until they get ball hips. |
