Statues aren't just increased cost, they're increased space. Someone even living in an apartment can have a fairly nice 1/6 display if set up properly. You pretty much absolutely need a house and probably even a separate display room if you're a statue collector (collector as in having several).

Oh, now I see why you thought that. As counter intuitive as it might be, people still go for statues. You have 1/10, 1/8 and 1/7 scales if you have a space problem. In countries like Japan where space is premium, this is why you still have a very large statue market.

I have heard that collectors in Hong Kong and Singapore even have their separate storage lockers where they keep most of their collection and rotate out the pieces they want.

The thing is, form an adult perspective, statue do qualify as work of art. Honestly, in regards to some of these pieces, that is really true. But, with articulated figures, they fall more into the toy realm, which for most adult collectors, is a bad sounding thing. Not many people would like to hear that they are collecting toys when they are 30+.
