I don’t mind getting these for like 20. Much easier to obtain, much easier to army build and customize without regret.

Also, their armored figures like the Hellbat Batman for example are actually kinda cool in-hand. If this Space Marine is on the same level of chunkiness and fun as those... why not?

If it's on the same level as Hellbat, then definitely. But Hellbat's a diamond in the rough. I don't want McFarlane to make a bad figure, and I would love to get multiple 40K figs at that scale and price. But everything from MK to DOOM (especially DOOM, the Slayer figure's a travesty) to most of their DC stuff has been really disappointing, so I'm not exactly optimistic.

The only that sticks out like a sore thumb is how Batman and Joker don't look like they're properly scaled to each other.

The Batman White Knight figures are the standout pieces though. You can tell there's a lot of love put into sculpting them. Might read up the storyline just to see if I'd be interested.

Uhhhh... That Arkham Joker has the face of a K-pop member doing a Joker cosplay, and while the game itself may have cartoony proportions, if McFarlane is gonna take artistic liberties, he should make it so that Batman doesn't have teeny tiny baby hands and anorexic hips :p

I don't get the K-Pop comparison. Nothing about that Joker looks K-Pop and if there's anything I'd complain about it, it's the lack of paint/shadowing on the face and the weird expression they gave him. Batman's proportions aren't helped by the fact that he's way out of scale with Joker so his hands and head end up looking smaller than they should be. The hips look fine though

Still, I'm not really interested in the Arkham figures to give enough of a damn about them since DC Direct offered a whole line of well-articulated figures of those looks before. It's the Batman White Knight stuff that looks the most new and promising out of these.

Tim 02-22-2020 02:29 PM

The proportion on that ARKHAM joker’s face is terrible. The space between his Eyes and Mouth is way too small. It looks terrible. The only one I kinda like is the Arkham Batman that’s about it

Meta 02-22-2020 02:40 PM

I guess we are not getting that Birds of Prey Harley Quinn figure. I noticed her picture on the back of some of the latest McFarlane DC figures. Was really hoping to get her too.

Bo Ttef 02-22-2020 02:50 PM

Now to see if I can cencel my Bandai Space Marine figures... would gladly take 5 of these guys instead... Other than - not much on the McFarlane front for me.

Bo Ttef 02-22-2020 02:51 PM

... oh yeah... Baraka and Kitana... So much YES!!!!

Darkhawk 02-22-2020 03:19 PM

So... no more Star Trek?

I guess McFarlane has officially abandoned the Star Trek licence. What a waste, especially with Picard out now.

yeah, at least a Data and Spock would have been nice

Awkward Silent 02-22-2020 04:02 PM

If those Arkham figures scale with my DC Direct/Collectibles figures, I don't give a shit if they're bad, I WILL love McFarlane forever for continuing that line.

Krunomo 02-22-2020 05:30 PM

I know it's popular to beat on McFarlane but i'm fairly happy with what they're offering. They could be better but they're also only $20. That Baraka and Kitana look great. My only and continued gripe is the lack of fist hands. Hopefully they continue to drop 7 or more MK figures a year. Would love to complete the roster before the next game comes out. That said, the Storm figures are way better but they're 3 to 4 times the price so the McFarlane option is a good discount offering and they scale well enough together.

Jester 02-22-2020 05:59 PM

McFarlane Warhammer 40,000 is great news! I was worried about never being able to afford 40K figures with Bandai apparently having the license, but if this Ultrasmurf sells well we could potentially be looking at Halo levels of armour and colour-scheme variations. :D

Neoblackdragon 02-22-2020 06:47 PM

I do think there's a bit of "Why am I not getting $80 quality at $20" speak going on with some Mcfarlane comments.

I am a little perplexed by their choices.

Stop doing single joint elbows. Unless the characters can't bend their arms, everyone should have double jointed elbows. This is not something you sacrifice. Bulky armor? Get's double jointed elbows.

Heads
I think these are all fine. There is a mixed bag. Mcfarlane does need to decide. Are they going to take artistic license or do a direct adaption. I think comic inspired designs give them a little more play but not live action movies of video game. They should really get the models and scans for these productions and be as accurate as possible.

That White Knight Batman........I need it.
Wish they are led with some of these figures.
I also wish these all weren't Batman plus the Wonder Woman tie in.
Flash/Green Lantern/Cyborg etc.

I have a theory that Todd picks up licenses when he binges a show and he's SUPER hyped on it (GoT, Star Trek, Steven Universe) and then after a few waves he just stops giving a crap and drops the lines with no explanation.

The Star Trek line might be a victim of the ongoing licensing feud between CBS/Paramount and Bad Robot.

Todd said in his interview with Jay C that retail interest in Game of Thrones dropped significantly after the finale aired.

Ehh, that may be true, but you don't neccessarily need the media tie-in when you're making toys. Just look at what NECA did today, people are going NUTS over the Marty Mcfly figure, and there's no BTTF movies or TV shows coming out haha. I guess you could say it's a little different because we've had 6-7" scale GoT toys before but not BTTF, but if that's the rationale then Todd should've passed on the license since he had to have known GoT was ending relatively soon!

Melonballer 02-22-2020 08:50 PM

Seems like they had a lot of space for Borderlands, but nothing to show. I hope the line is not dead. The figures sold pretty well in my area and I certainly want lots more, especially the vault hunters. Still McFarlane did better and got us more characters than NECA did when they bungled the license a few years ago.

It isn't the fact the show ended, it's the fact it crashed and burned so spectacularly it's destroyed it's cultural icon status. In comparison BTTF is beloved three decades on. According to the interview with McFarlane I read, retailer interest in GoT just evaporated with season eight and there is no point spending money on figures retailers don't want to sell.

100% agree with this. Dave and Dan destroyed that franchise good and proper. Was really hyped for spin off series but now couldn't give a single fuck. Had McFarlane dropped GoT figures back when it was at peak popularity they may have done well. Now i think people just don't care.

I get the feeling a similar reason may be why we are yet to see Fallout stuff. They announced they were doing it a year ago but nothing has come of it. With 76 Bethesda have really burnt that franchise. I'm still keen for some power armour sets but wont hold my breath.

With Star Trek is the 7 inch scale figures DST thing? They're still making Star Trek figures. Never understood how both companies were able to make products in the same scale from the same franchise ...

This. In fact, Tom Holland was recently asked if he had seen the deep fake of him and RDJ as Marty and Doc in BTTF and his response was that BTTF was perfect and didn't need to be remade.

That's what happens when your finale is a piece of shit that made the whole series worthless.

It's kind of sad how people kept telling me with my disappointment from the DC reveals last month that I would see some great new product at Toy Fair that wasn't Batman related and all we got was Batman.

Everyone’s focus was on Hasbro today. Hopefully we’ll see some interviews with Todd tomorrow or Sunday and he’ll shed some light on his future plans.
