Anyway, I am not sure what people mean by saying this is not the cartoon version. Do they meet it’s the comic version? That is not this too. If they mean that this is just a “toy” version, why would you want a modernized version of a toy version of a character? Obviously, they must have made the toy like they did back then due to lack of technology, no?

Who would want a modernized version of a toy version of a character? Ask everyone who bought the Masters of the Universe Classics figures. Since Neca is making figures of the original cartoon designs, Super 7's niche is figures based on the original toy line.

Super 7 is going the extra mile for fans and including comic inspired alternate heads for the turtles. April's solicitation info also lists an alternate head which isn't pictured.

I freaking LOVE these. Super7 really hit their stride with the last line of Collectors Choice and Club Grayskull, so I have high hopes for these. The packaging is so on point.

Regarding April I'll just say I'm pretty sure Super7 knows the toy head is not the greatest, but they included it because it's an update of the toy head. Same with ol' Obrowko Saki. I'm more interested in the chain on the nunchuks, if it's going to be malleable or hard plastic, or something else.

ludovicotek 06-25-2020 08:58 PM

What’s up with April’s head? That’s not what she looked like in the cartoon!

Kidding, Comedian :D

These are so perfect! Super7 is absolutely killing it with this line. They had a few issues when they first took over MOTU, but they definitely worked through it. Their Masters movie figures are excellent. It looks like they’ve really hit their stride with this Turtles line. People complaining about the likeness of any of these figures just don’t get it. Their loss, really.

These are updates just like masters of the universe classics was updates on the 80s toys not the cartoon.

I have nothing to calm down about, for the life of me I don’t know what’s is so hard to understand about the nature of this line. 80s figures made with todays tech. If she looked like the toon, she would not belong in this line. If she looked the comic, she would not belong in this line. If she looked any other way than what she does, she would not belong in this line.

I think the major issue is I’m dealing with people that did not grow up in the eighties.

I see what you mean. However, unless it is the figure of an original character, wouldn’t you say that the value of the figure would be largely based on how accurate it is to the character, rather than a particular attempt at a past figure of the character? Otherwise, isn’t it like trying to approximate an approximation?

Now I can understand the possible value if someone wanted to complete their 80s Turtle collection. But still, I do think it would be better if those folks replaced their collection with better approximations of the characters themselves, rather than approximations of a figures from toy line.

I suspect that many find this puzzling for the above reasons.

I just wanted to say, looking at your pics of the back of the card, I realized that these were actually the figures I played with as a kid (though I grew up in the 90s) :)! I forgot how they looked (was too young) apart from that back of the card. That one pic brought back many memories!! Thank you!!!

While, I still don’t agree with the design of April given that even their box art of April is clearly not what is in the “box”, your photos certainly did give me something to smile about as I remembered my many hours of my childhood :)!

P.S. don’t know if it was a common issue, but I remember I hated my Shredder because his legs kept popping off when I tried to put him in poses lol. Then again, I might have been a bit rough with him since I was a kid :D

hmmm yes, a super hard plastic sounds fun. A nice heavy chain always feels good too. I can't decide...leaning toward metal always I think. More reliably good.

As for APRIL'S 2ND HEAD, that CARD ART would probably please a lot of people. It's her after the salon haha. I would be happy with both of those heads. Even though I'd still like a 2nd expression for the current face more.
Someone suggested a 2nd head based off a later playmate version of her. That could work really well too. Tough call.

I'm wondering if the hair on the current head is TOO BROWN now after seeing the clear comparison with the old one. The originals hair color is too weird, won't want that, but at least it skews toward orange/red. I always picture April with that orange/red hair the most.

LarryEaglestein 06-26-2020 12:25 AM

This wave is a disappointment for me. I was thinking about preordering the first 2 waves. Now I'm gonna pass on the line. I hate the April fig

OriginalFire 06-26-2020 01:28 AM

Next wave is gotta be Casey Jones and Donatello for sure, but not sure who else. Seems like they are doing one Turtle per wave, so after the original toy versions, not sure what the next kind of Turtle will be next. I'm gonna guess Space Raph. The price isn't a concern for me anymore. I understand, and we actually get so much for the 45 bucks. Rocksteady and Bebop are gonna be awesome.

Primacron 06-26-2020 01:59 AM

Mikey looks good to me, would like more of a grinning second head though.

Thought they were waiting for Wave 1 to release before showing these off?

Thanks for that. Lol. What’s funny is I typed this stuff playing with my son and watching the old turtle cartoon with him. I was never not calm. I think we always picture someone angrily typing away in a dark basement. Lol.

I understand what you are saying, but understand turtles was not on demand in the 80s and early 90s. Most of us did not have VCRs yet so turtles was what ever time your local channel had it on every week. Most of us saw the toon once a week if that. Most of us were to young to have the comic. Our main exposure to TMNT was the toy line. The toys were looked at and played with every day. That is our main nostalgic picture of these characters. Depending on the TV you had the turtles even looked different colors so the neca figures had to be done in several colors. But everyone had the same figures. Everyone. This is just like masters of the universe. Yes Mattel and super7 did about 30 or so from the filmation cartoon but they did over 300 based on only the vintage toy line. Those are what we saw and helf]d every day.

The toy is nostalgic for toy collectors. The toon is nostalgic for passer-byes. Yes an April that looks like she jumped off the screen would be fun, I never held her in my hands. She never existed. I held this figure in my hands. And just like masters going from 5 inch to 7 inch. So did turtles. Big boys, want big toys.( heads out of the gutter, I know how it sounds. Lol) just like Star Wars. The black series is killing 3.75. Sadly.

dukefett 06-26-2020 09:00 AM

There's plenty of retro things inspired by the old toys. Gentle Giant makes jumbo versions of old figures. Some Masterpiece Transformers also for instance have aspects that reference the original toys or they do entire releases (re-using a mold typically with some updates) that are homages to toy releases of the G1 line and many references to the Diaclone line that came before Transformers too. Masterpiece Loudpedal references a Diaclone figure that was only released in Finland.

These TMNT figures are going to be popular, especially given S7's one run and done way they make toys. It's kind of hard to think that they won't do another run of the main characters down the line, but that's the way they operate. I looked on BBTS and Raphael by himself and the first wave set are already sold out.

Comedian 06-26-2020 09:28 AM

One good thing is Brian has said in many interviews he has no intention of creating false demand by shorting items. He did more of the Christmas he-man right away to meet demand. That said he has also said these are up for preorder usually around a month or longer. I have no doubt though, if demand is there, then the originals will come out again. Plus you know he is itching to do those monster variants of the turtles. The sky is the limit on these. I just wish they could put these out once a quarter. 12 a year would be awesome.

Leo Primus 06-26-2020 12:42 PM

Seeing that second Raphael head for the first time made me think they were going for some sort of nondescript modernized look. However, I have no idea what's going on with the alternate heads on Leo and Mike. Those don't look appealing to me.
Think I might drop that Raph preorder now since I don't really care for the toy heads and was mostly interested in the extra sculpts.

I kind of agree with you on the 2nd heads, it's not 100% there. Luckily I'm into the original toy heads BIG TIME. That Raph is gunna be sold out tho brother. Hold it. Those 2nd heads could look a lot better in person. Especially in fight scenes with the other bad guys. You drop now that big regrets.

Super7 > NECA

NECA can rot in hell. Super7 knows how to treat fans - they listen to the community, they know how to distribute, they make amazing decisions, and put out killer product. They're also not led by a douche like Randy. Super7 4 LIFE.

buddyboy101 06-26-2020 10:21 PM

Also I agree Michelangelo's second sculpt should have a more playful look. His current second sculpt looks a bit deranged lol

That's it! Deranged. I'm pretty sure it's an expression that isn't really an actual expression or something. This combination of angry/happy/surprised/forced makes this deranged kind of look in the end. Maybe a little tweak could help clarify it.

protostar8 06-27-2020 10:15 AM

So NECA puts out figures that are way better for $25 each yet these are $45 each...why???

Smaller company, smaller profit margins, cost of license, amount of accessories...

All legit reasons. But I just wonder how they justify charging the same $18 price for their Worst Reaction figures when it's an IP they own.

AceSimulacrum 06-27-2020 02:04 PM

Nice for the toyline lovers. I would have liked a bit more gold chrome on Metalhead, when I was a kid I always thought the original toy version looked realy goo but never owned it. Am tempted but probably going to pass, a little too much for me to pull the trigger to scratch the itch.

jwyss234 06-27-2020 05:29 PM

According to Robo on the Fwoosh Weekly, one of the guys from Super 7 said that the first wave of figures is on the water right now.

Hopefully we’ll have them in a couple of weeks.

Anyone know how it works from there? It ends up on in a shipping port in the US, gets loaded off the ship... And then do the companies with products coming in pick them up? Or are they shipped from there to the companies? Just curious about logistics haha

I love the logistics. Brian Flynn has a lot of vids out there that go into depths on the subject surrrounding similar products. One of the reasons I love his appearances. He is very candid and informative. According to him it can work in different ways sometimes. So unless he speaks on it, it’s probably a few possibilities. Snake mountain was a different process than normal for example. I’d like to say more but I’d have to rewatch to be true to his words.
