PO'd both. Hope they do more. I still have a lot of the monsters actually.
In terms of the buck used for Warduke, it has some similarities to the Rambo one. Which for me is a Goldilocks spot, buff, but lean. Though the Rambo one did not have exposed pin holes on the shoulders. Hope that is not on the production version.

All credit to the original customizer for the amount of work that went into that, but the proportions look very "off" to me when compared to Tim Truman's original concept art for the character (which would be re-used for the figure's card artwork and serve as the template for most depictions of the character back in the day). Not only does Truman's Warduke have a much more streamlined musculature (in keeping with the general aesthetic of the AD&D line, which tended to exhibit a certain sleekness that hearkens back at points to the impossibly form-fitting armour of knights errant in Pre-Raphaelite paintings, far more so than the chunkiness that defines more recent fantasy lines like Mythic Legions), he also has a comparatively large head/helmet, to the point where the combination actually dominates his silhouette to some degree.

That really does look like Rambo's torso, albeit with new arms incorporating a bicep swivel.

Neca? Weird... After Hasbro did the Drizzt figure, I assumed it was a "tasting the water" for a proper D&D toyline from Hasbro.
These look nice, but the characters mean nothing to me. I know Warduke was in maybe one episode of that dumb cartoon, and... I am going to hazard a guess that based on all the snake motif, Grimsword is some really devout Yuan-Ti under that armor who really wants to make it clear he likes snakes? :D

The whole 1E "character roster" team is getting miniatures from Wizkids, btw. Ringlerun, Elkhorn, Molliver, Mercion and Strongheart in the good guys set (Valor's Call), Warduke, Kelek, Skylla, Zarak, Zargash in the League of Malevolence.

That's like, totally not likely, given that Hasbro OWNS WotC, hence any D&D setting too, apart from perhaps Dragonlance that is co-owned by the novel authors.
I am betting once the movie comes out next year, we will have a proper Hasbro toyline. I was very happy with Drizzt and especially with Guwenhwyar, I never seen such a well articulated panther toy before. I hope they make a Displacer Beast too!

Hasbro owns Wizards of the Coast, who have owned D&D since 1997. That would include anything made by TSR (the original owners/creators of D&D), so, yes. Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Greyhawk, Ravenloft, Dark Suns, Spelljammer, Mystara, Planescape, Birthright, Al-Qadim (which is technically still Forgotten Realms) ... I'm sure I'm missing a few. But all are owned by WotC, so owned by Hasbro by proxy.

As to why NECA is doing this ... Hasbro licenses out Transformers to other toy and figure makers all the time (as long as they don't transform), so this could be a similar deal.

mangkanorxxv 09-27-2021 09:38 AM

I hope the line does well so we can get TIAMAT!!!

That sounds like a tall order, can easily seeing that for 120+. Though again, Nightmare, would be great. An experiment for a higher price point, maybe the Hook Horror, or Dragonne.

I was thinking the same about Tiamat, but while I'd love a Hook Horror - an affinity that made me nab MotUC's Shadow Beast due to it being slightly reminiscent - I think that might also be a stretch.

Truthfully, I'd settle for a Titan, Northlord, or Ogre King.

Emphasis on the + cause i dont see a Tiamat in that scale being anywhere close to 120 lol.

Depending how they would 'actually' scale, can easily see Tiamat done at an improper smaller scale. The other issue would be articulation, if it is a solid base body with say three joints to each head... With an articualted body and decent size, I can easily see a price point of 200 given todays prices. The only things I have near that scale by NECA are the 18" Pacific Rim Jaegers and Kaiju.

Smasher 09-27-2021 12:20 PM

I'm really surprised that these are from NECA and not Hasbro as well.

So in for Warduke. Would love to see the rest of the old D&D line done. Also HE NEEDS NIGHTMARE!

I kind of wish these were in the original scale so we could get Nightmare
and maybe Bronze Dragon.

Also in regards to Drizzt. That was supposed to be based on his appearance in D&D Dark Alliance. The NECA license can be considered separate. Also I think Drizzt did not do that well, though I bought him, as he is still available on Pulse.

Thanks. I didn't realize he was still available.

Yes.
It was a cool toy line.
I didn't have them all, but I had the primary players.
Check this out.

Ah, the good ol’ days…

Nothing like growing up in the 80s being scared of Nuclear War with Russia while also being right in the middle of the Satanic Panic.

Yeah, looking at these new pics, I have to say not being on the DOTE buck isn't an issue at all for Warduke...these look amazing My only issue now is do I display them on my 80s shelf or with the few Mythic Legions I have.

Zeorn 05-19-2022 09:52 AM

I have no connection to these characters but I will probably pick these up to go with Mythic Legions and Mezco Conan when he comes in.

He was already kind of done for Mythic Legions. Colliseum Raygorr was a 'homage' to Warduke.

JerpJerp 05-19-2022 09:45 PM

That Warduke has really grown on me, I might be getting that.

deecee4 06-03-2022 03:31 PM

Looks like the back of the retro cards reveals the next two 7 inch figures.

Love how NECA is doing this line.
Would love to see a Tiamat somewhere. I would imagine there would be lots of eager buyers out there.
And yes, I'm one of those who had the LJN Tiamat back in the day and have no idea how it was lost to history along with my Shogun Godzilla, Crossbows and Catapults, and countless other vintage toys I wish I still had.......

Zigerlion 03-30-2023 09:43 PM

Strong heart looks great, but I'd like to have the whole OG cast of Dragonlance. One can dream...

I just hope that the wings on Strongheart's helmet aren't as sharp, stiff and fragile as the ones on Warduke's...

ghostbogey 03-31-2023 01:32 AM

Will give...
them a Look..

Cause....
It's "NECA" ;^)

Sender 03-31-2023 06:29 AM

Love this line along with Hasbro's D&D Animated Series figures!
Looking forward to more...

firmpulse 03-31-2023 06:59 AM

Oh man I love this line.

I really wish NECA would do characters from the Saturday morning cartoon also. At the very least Venger. I'm not a fan of Hasbro's poorly executed effort.

Dolemite 03-31-2023 07:01 AM

Anyone else have issues with Grimsword having slightly floppy ankles that eventually result in him dipping backwards/forwards?

BTW, Warduke is a fucking fantastic figure. Astonishingly good. Firm ankles, too!
