I like how they tweaked Croc's Arkham Asylum design for the figure here, it makes it feel a little more comic-looking.

I do worry now that the long-ago Target leak alleging a megafig Bane could wind up being his Arkham Asylum design. It's been way too long since we've gotten a standard comic Bane that wasn't a kids toy.

Todd's fucking Batman too?! Better let Catwoman off easily.

Boogieman4hire 02-26-2022 04:06 PM

That Joker dragon is creepy as shit and I definitely am getting that. Also those two Megafigs look amazing, especially that Man-bat. I guess I'll finally be retiring the DC Universe Classics one.

Yet you keep posting about it.

I wouldn't mind his Arkham Origins look sans-jacket, it was pretty close to the comics (minus the big kneepads) and he had a great boss fight!

His Origins design was cooler (and his overall portrayal was way better) than in Asylum, but that still wouldn't get to the root of my whining. I think the last generic comic Bane figure for the collector crowd was seriously the Mattel C&C figure, which was more than a decade ago. The only Bane figures we've gotten since then have all been based on appearances in other media (games and movies) and the one comic figure we've gotten in that time was the LKoE version which I really like but is also too story specific to fill that void I'm feeling.

A Snickers bar might help. ;)

I assume the Black Adam reveals are today :)

IzzyTipsy 02-28-2022 08:42 AM

Guess it's still too much to hope for frigging Supergirl like EVER.

Point, but I'm sure people would buy other figures as well if Todd would make 'em. But there is indeed a reason that pretty much anyone who's ever had the DC license has made every version of Batman imaginable and then some. I mean, remember when Kenner made crazy shit like Deep Dive Batman and Egyptian Batman?

While I want to believe this, ever since I started collecting statues and now action figures, I've been shocked by the number of people who say that they don't read comics. Yes, there's no rule that a person has to be familiar with comics in order to buy merchandise, but that means that the market is largely made up of people who are aware of only Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Joker, and Harley Quinn. Beyond that, purchasing decisions are probably based on whether or not someone thinks a character looks cool.

We've already seen what happens when Mattel makes figures based on supporting/secondary characters. Walmart had two exclusive figures as part of the Lex Luthor BAF wave, Harley Quinn and Spoiler (Stephanie Brown). Harley Quinn sold out (no surprise), but Spoiler was clearanced for $5. (Wonder Girl (Cassie Sandsmark) was $5 at Five Below.) I bought Spoiler and think she's great. I hope that McFarlane makes Spoiler and Orphan (Cass Cain) action figures wearing any of their costumes. Will it happen? It's unlikely if even Harley has only 3 versions so far.

For Batman, I did not count the figures that aren't Bruce Wayne or Batmans from alternate worlds/universes. If you include those, the number easily climbs up to 40 or higher.

----------

Number of figures per character (not counting alternate heads/re-paints/variants or megafigs)
(As of February 26, 2022)

Bruce Wayne (Batman): 24
Joker: 8 + 1 from Mortal Kombat (but minus 1 if you don't count New 52 Death of the Family Joker, which is really similar to The Clown Joker)
Clark Kent (Superman): 9
Diana of Themyscira (Wonder Woman): 6
Barry Allen (Flash): 5
Jason Todd (Red Hood): 4
Barbara Gordon (Batgirl): 3
Harley Quinn: 3
Dick Grayson (Nightwing): 2
Damian Wayne (Robin): 2
Oliver Queen (Green Arrow): 2
John Stewart Green Lantern: 2

Lex Luthor: 1.5 (the green and blue suits are very similar, though the blue suit also has a very large chair that's a pretty unique accessory)
Reverse Flash: 1.5 (the Rebirth design is basically a re-paint of Rebirth Flash)

Note: Several of Superman's bodies were used for multiple related characters, such as Red Son and Bizarro.

If its not Batman Bat family or Batman Rouge its not top priority at Mcfarlane toys.

I think Superman gets a fair shake from McFarlane! We got a lot of variants and villains like Lobo, Luthor, and Metallo (if you wanna fudge a Warhammer figure in there :D)

I really like the Spoiler figure as well, but I prefer her fully-masked look so I did a bit of custom work on her.

As much as people like to complain about the McF figures' scaling, the Mattel line was even more problematic. Barbara Gordon was shorter than Stephanie Brown. Harley Quinn was massive.

This line truly is just 50 shades of Batman... Seriously, who buys 500 versions of Batman anyway?
And the whole Zurenarh nonsense, we are getting toys of it instead of it finally being forgotten as it should be?

And that Joker thing... it's more of a fish than a dragon. Jokerfish? Guess he finally perfected the formula, on himself.

This was the bestselling action figure line last year.

Batman fans?

Does it kill me a little when the first Shazam(or say Duke) figure is some evil from a few panels. Or when the first comic Aquaman has side eye?

Yes it does

Another Batman figure, given the popularity no.

I think Mcfarlane should be sticking to less "niche" versions of non Batman characters until they make "definitive" versions.

They did Flash right and wrong at the same time. They gave us a standard Flash but their two pack and head sculpt nonsense tainted it. But having a standard Flash was good.

To be fair the way the comics depicted Batgirl in that era she looked about 12 or something anyway. That always confused me lol

Like she went from:

To:

How?

BarbaraGordon 03-03-2022 09:46 AM

As part of the DC You phase, she was "de-aged" to appeal to younger readers, but she shouldn't have been made shorter than Stephanie Brown as an action figure.

But all of the characters were de-aged when New 52 began. Bruce even became more of a big brother rather than father figure to Dick.

EternianJerkian 03-03-2022 09:51 AM

Aye maybe. But the figure's don't look 'wrong'. I know we only see Spoiler's eyes there but she still looks more mature than that Bab's figure and not just because of the height. Maybe the toy designer of the Batgirl figure got confused too. lol
