Supposedly, it was done because police adopt the Punisher symbol on their personal vehicles sometimes, and they don't want the Punisher to be associated with police for obvious reasons these days (ie Disney doesn't want to feel the wrath of Twitter).

The debate always pops up when Punisher is used by Marvel. Same when the Netflix show was out and the main actor was talking about how he disliked people idolizing Punisher and guns.

I'm not sure why Disney just doesn't dump Punisher all together if he's so "problematic".

With this, the more classic looking DC figures and the Spawn stuff, I feel like McFarlane is hitting their stride. Just drop the side eye please lol.

IzzyTipsy 03-10-2022 10:47 AM

Dude has a sci fi blaster looking weapon in many comics, so let's see if they give him that or just a finger pistol again.

Sword and knife

Comedian 03-10-2022 11:12 AM

Swords and knives kill too, correct? The movies and comics can be as violent as can be but….toys….I will never understand a certain segment of human beings.

Spyne98 03-10-2022 11:34 AM

I might need this.

Really? A FUCKING SWORD AGAIN?! Ill buy this cause its grifter but sonuvabitch this is getting stupid!

Cyclopswc 03-10-2022 11:53 AM

Image Wild CATS Grifter used to use a specific sets of guns.

https://static3.cbrimages.com/wordpr...&h=370&dpr=1.5

Since moving over to DC, it looks like he diversified in his use of guns.

https://comicvine.gamespot.com/a/upl...6056-qwadf.jpg

So I guess I'll be able to just slap some guns on him and call it a day.

ThorOdinson123 03-10-2022 12:02 PM

Ya this whole No Guns with Toys with DC is really stupid. So many DC Characters use guns whether its real or fantasy guns.

Yeah I don't get it. Joker always comes with a crowbar. If ya think about it a crowbar is lot more menacing. A household tool implemented by a psychopath to beat someone to death. Way scarier.

Give us back our guns Todd.

IzzyTipsy 03-10-2022 12:35 PM

I get the knife since he's had it on a few covers.

Would have liked the old Image style "blasters". Seems like it would have been a way for Todd to get around the ban.

I'm sure Todd would if he could. The Finger Pistols are clearly his middle finger to WB.

Family heirloom

hasbroherofan 03-10-2022 02:19 PM

I feel like some variation of "So guns are bad but crowbars and knives are okay?" gets asked now with every new figure reveal and it's like, y'all do know this is a (very stupid, over)reaction to current events, right?

Like, I'm sure if every few months there was a high profile news story about someone killing a bunch of people in a church, a school, a supermarket or some other public place with a crowbar or a sword, followed by a bunch of debate about crowbar and sword regulation (that inevitably leads to nothing and the whole cycle starting over again in a few months or weeks), those would be the banned items instead.

Like I said, it's stupid and I'm in no way defending WB, but I'm not sure why people keep trying to bring up other weapons being okay.

RedisPower 03-10-2022 02:27 PM

In which case he'd be cutting off his nose to spite his own face.

This line was the best selling action figure line last year. It's what allows Todd to do odd/weird things with other lines.

Dolemite 03-10-2022 02:52 PM

This is like releasing a Punisher figure without guns. This DC mandate is so fucking lame.

Oh well, most figure collectors have extra accessories lying around, it won't be too hard to properly arm Grifter once he's out.

Yeah, I'm sure that's a realistic option. It's not like Todd paid a shitload of money for the license or has a contractual obligation to DC/Warner to produce figures or anything.

Doubtful since the Mafex TDKR armored Batman had his sonic blaster removed, Playarts Arkham Knight/Red Hood had his guns removed, and Mcfarlane's Bloodsport didn't have his guns. All three of these were sci-fi style not-real weapons (hell one of them doesn't even fire projectiles in the source material) but all were affected by the policy.

I don't think it's stupid or an overreaction. If Hasbro released a Jedi figure without a lightsaber, you'd raise an eyebrow. These accessories are honestly important to the identity of the characters.

I can't follow prohibiting firearms while have no issue with character who engage in extreme forms of violence. With Green Lantern you can put forth a shield or rescue accessories. Superman might throw a few punches but he's not a violent character.

Batman puts people in traction. Joker is a mass murderer. Red Hood really likes his guns.

At the heart we don't see what problem the WB is trying to solve. Not selling figures with firearms isn't curb gun violence. At purchases aimed at adults, it makes little sense why say Peacemaker Hot Toys figure has a gun ban.

I am paying for a product and I would like the gun wielding characters to have guns. This isn't an artist trying to express these characters as characters of peace or trying non violent methods to commit crime.

"Hey kids and adults, guns aren't cool. They cause serious harm in the real world. Now here's a sword, machete, crowbar and good old fashioned armored knuckles to beat someone to death".

That's one way to kill your company or burn a bridge at least. The WB would strip him of the toy license at that point. Or you know......use characters that don't use guns. Or make up for the lack of those accessories with hands.
