I think the image is so baked into the public consciousness now, like Gandalf as the wizard ideal, that it'd almost be weird for some sword & sorcery dude to not be running around like a Frazetta character?

I guess D&D was squarely in their crosshairs at the time, and they'd moved onto naughty language in music and violence on television by the time they'd have moved their sights to MOTU.

If you make something that’s expensive you always need to make sure you can actually sell enough pieces to make a profit.

This is exactly why it's always a surprise when figma or figuarts make a larger scale figure. It's also got me wondering what the price tag for Torrent is going to be..

Was excited to see Guyver 2, then realized it was an upgraded, quasi re-release Guyver I.

I am super happy for those of you who missed it, but I really want a Guyver II (Lisker) and surprised there hasn't been one in all this time. Also them making a new mold for the female Guyver II makes me really surprised they haven't done a Guyver 0.

I just hope these new guyvers fit with the old ones.

Perfectly fine with this Cammy and the Bishoujo one being cheesecake. I have plenty of non cheesecake Cammy statues and figures.

Besides, given the Bishoujo line and Pop Up Parade lines are usually "putting the ladies in sexy poses" I don't mind.

Not to mention - it's Cammy's signature pose where she shows off her ass when winning. Been that way since 94 and I hope they never take it away.

She should be flashing the "V" though.

IzzyTipsy 08-08-2022 09:20 AM

Given Figma makes some larger stuff I'm surprised at no Ridley.

I mean, given how Cammy is USUALLY depicted in the games, anime, comics, manga, etc. showing off her ass (hell, her first appearance had her showing off her 16bit booty as a victory pose), I think the statue is pretty accurate.

Do you mean scale wise, or something else? I was assuming this 2.0 one was just basically the same mold just with better joints.

Version 2.0 is an entirely new mold with better overall proportions. Scale should be similar if we take the stand as an indicator.

You people don't know Street Fighter very well if you think that ass-showing statue is too much for a character like CAMMY.

Why do characters like Cammy always suffer from this kind of sexualizing.
And I do know she’s always been like that but still the question remains, what kind of pervert designs a leotard like it’s a thong.

But then again compared to rainbow mika she doesn’t look so bad.

The straight-up thong back is from just the last 10 years or so, she had some coverage back in the day, like the middle of the cheeks. But as far as what kind of pervert does that? Well, um... me? I've thrown together some Cammy-inspired workout garb, and it's actually really comfy for moving around in, even if the aesthetics were what was really at the forefront of my mind. :D

She looks like a parody character for reals, it's ludicrous. Like, once an outfit is practically painted on you don't actually need to be showing skin for it to look sexy. Juri got so much more attractive when she switched to the jumpsuit, same with Chun-Li and those Alpha leggings instead of the SFII pantyhose.

It did. I collect 1980's "satanic panic" Christian books and three of my favorites are called Turmoil in the Toy Box, Turmoil in the Toy Box II, and Saturday Morning Mind Control. The author makes outrageous claims like Smurfs represent vampiric corpses, his daughter's troll doll would dance on its own, D&D figurines cried out in pain when he tossed them into a fire, and TMNT is a designed to brainwash the public into accepting the reptoids when they decide to take over the planet.

There's an entire chapter devoted to MoTU and how characters like Skeletor and Hordak (who are explicitly the villains) are designed to groom kids into accepting Satanism (the author really takes issue with Skeletor's Havok Staff) but also how He-Man and the whole concept of "Master of the Universe" is so children will reject Christ. He claims to have attended a a Church sermon where kids were playing with MoTU figures and one of the kids cried out, "Jesus isn't Master of the Universe, He-Man is!" The whole thing is equal parts hilarious and horrifying.

Personally I love Cammy and I do like her design, but it gets a little perverse when the backside of her outfit seems to shrink every year.

Gotta love that 80’s satanic panic

I actually prefer the proportions on the older figure. Wish I was able to get it but only managed to get the other two Figma Guyvers a few years back and 1 was already out of reach price-wise even then.

I mean I'm with you, it is a bit silly, but honestly it doesn't bother me. I mean I get why some here might find it to be too gratuitous or cringe, but for me I just scroll down a little further and see some of the other items Good Smile and these Japanese companies have to offer, and suddenly Cammy showing a bit of butt seems like no big thing anymore.

When her Killer Bee outfit first premiered in X-Men Vs Street Fighter, back in '96, it was exponentially skimpier than her original SF2 outfit. I feel like her modern looks are pretty much on par with that costume, as far as coverage goes. Kinda tough too get any skimpier than that '96 outfit, without earning an "Adults Only" rating, lol !

I honestly don't know why I felt the need to comment or a fictional character's thing, lol. I've just always enjoyed her Killer Bee look, ever since I was a kid playing X-Men Vs Street Fighter at the local laser tag arena :D

Rainbow Mika is a wrestler and female wrestlers (ESPECIALLY Japanese ones) are very well-known for wearing skimpy outfits, a good example is the WWE wrestler Asuka who on top of wearing EVEN LESS than Mika is well-known for using her ass as an attack... just like Mika

So, yeah, Mika is actually pretty accurate to real-life wrestling and thus not really "parodic" or "ludicrous."

Also, Chun-Li was created specifically because her creator, Akiman, has a thigh fetish so of course she's sexualized all the time, just thought you might like that lil' piece of trivia, lol.

I really could’ve gone on with life not knowing that last part ._.

Yeah, ass attack/butt-butt/flying hip attack...first done by Megumi Kudo in the 80s.
