That Grodd looks horrendous. Well, not the Grodd himself but that neon armor.

Definitely stick with IJ2 Grodd.

Cyclopswc 09-02-2022 09:33 AM

Nice orange bikini, Grodd!

T0ySick 09-02-2022 09:34 AM

Love it

Damn. I know that basically just makes him a gorilla but I'd love to get a Grodd that doesn't have armor.

I realllllly wish there would be some clarity as to McFarlane's strategy for character choice and design with this line. I know the general sentiment is that Todd just picks what looks cool, but there has to be something that backs that up financially, right? Will these versions of Flash's rogues sell better than say, Rebirth versions? I know some people like them better, but I would think that way more people would pick these up if they felt like they continued a common theme or style, as opposed to the constant hodgepodge of designs from every corner of DC. This is what almost every other line does, anyways.

It feels discouraging. Are we really ever going to see another Heat Wave? Probably not. So it is probably this weird warhammer version or none, and that is so disappointing.

warmachine6 09-02-2022 12:48 PM

wish grodd came with fists, another wave to skip

Todd does what Todd likes! His company, 100%. His rules. Todd will either continue this way with the line and have it be sucessful..Or he will continue this way with the line and have it fail and DC will move the license onto some shit toy company that couldn't lick the plastic balls of any of Todd's figures. But in the end he will move on and still have a company. Till the day he dies.

As another toy industry head said once, DC stuff doesn't make shit for money in the toy isles. This was before Mcfarlane toys was even a rumor. Sounds like (at the moment) DC is fairing better with McFarlane's company than any before it. So you can say you won't support it. And that is your right as a consumer. But you will never get another company like his to produce like he does. Don't like the paint jobs..ok. But I hear the same people say this and then complain about a well produced, painted, articlated figure at a higher cost. Saying things like "im interested but not at that price"
As they say, some people will never be happy.

I post rants like this alot becuase I always hear the same complaints. But yet he's been in business and outlasted alot of other companies. Am I a fan of everything he does..nope. But I recognize value.

It just will be what it is..we can only hope for what we want. While reality will be on the peg wether you buy it or not.

manic mailman 09-02-2022 01:17 PM

i also want an armor free grodd

DKA897 09-02-2022 02:05 PM

I am not saying that I won't buy the product or that his stuff sucks or anything like that. I am saying that his strategy for selection of characters seems odd and out of step with how most (successful) lines are done, not to mention the fact that it isn't really what any consumers are asking for. I would say (and I may be wrong but I doubt it) that most people that collect the line are DC fans that want good figures, as opposed to Todd fans that want his take on DC figures. Most of the time if feels like Todd operates under the latter idea and that can be frustrating.

T0ySick 09-02-2022 02:23 PM

Oh I agree on the frustrating part. But the consumer part. Do you mean the online community of consumers? Becuase we are still a minority in the main toy isles. Becuase when I sculk the toy isles looking for hidden or misplaced figures and then I hear "Mommy I want a Batman/Spider-man/Pokémon toy" (and I hear this often at stores). That's not the sound of a picky someone looking for the classic version of superman in his red granny panties that makes the older collectors swoon. That's the sound of the consumer that makes the industry run.

Dragasses 09-02-2022 02:31 PM

It's confusing why they made all these characters so detailed, and then just molded them in two colors and called it a day. It's almost like because they were coerced into articulating them that the paint jobs went out the window.

Its the production triangle of an action figure.
Three corners;

Articulation
^
Price
<
Quality
>

The triangle works this way: you can only choose two but you lose one. This is not an option, this is the reality of the industry.

You want to choose articulation and quality..then you pay the price!

You want low price and articulation... than you lose quality.

You want low cost and quality... than you lose articulation

Designincase 09-02-2022 03:37 PM

I feel articulation isn't the bottleneck here. Given how standardized it is. Mcfarlane especially though needs to revisit it as they haven't optimized their articulation system.

No the problem I believe is all the unique sculpts. On the one hand it seems awesome but they should honestly have a library of parts to switch in and out to keep things fresh. Nearly every Batman shouldn't have different body types outsides movie versions.

If they switched to more industry standards forms of joints and approaches, they'd save money. Money that could go into paint.

But if they lost more articulation I do not think we'd see an increase in paint apps.

I'd really like to see them use better plastic over more paint apps.
And overhaul the articulation system.

But make no mistake, any change will cost money. Every thing that goes into a figure costs money.

Didn't realize I was gone for almost 2 months and I still see the same rants about McFarlane here in general. No female figures! (Yeah, yeah Todd's a sexist pig) It's all Batman! (Batman sells and people have no problems buying 100 versions of Captain America or He-Man) I want a classic character! (You can wait forever for that while implying that none of the other versions of that character released by Todd appeals to you plus "classic characters" are relative anyway)

Regardless of your opinion of Todd, at least the guy listens to his fans in rare moments and people are still buying his toys.

Its funny you took my rant as a negative and reiterated my point to a T.

REally? Because I've tagged Todd on Twitter saying I want a Silver Age Flash line and a Jonah Hex figure and none of those have happened.

Are you sure about that? Because my stores have had the same figures collecting dust on them all year long. My Target still has the unmasked Shriek (who the hell wanted him unmasked in the first place??), movie Harleys, Peacemaker with no guns or mask, etc.

The figures you mention are both old and irrevelavant (Harly Quinn came out after the movie had come and gone and was probably produced at factory level before he knew the movie was going to be unprofitable). Every toy manufacturer has toys/figures in lines that don't sell well and remain on the shelves for multiple reasons. Mcfarlane unlike other companies can instantly recognize what sells well (for his company) and order another run becuase he answers only to himself and has long standing with the factories he uses. Case in point collect and connect king shark. The 1st runs of that set sold really well. I'm guessing Also did the 2nd. The 3rd and possibly fourth run maybe not so well as the series had already reached the climax of its sales at retail and online. But before that happened Todd decided to make the 5 pack. Also making the king shark a seperate mega fig. Also this was one of his 1rst collect build figures, 2nd I believe, as the batmobile is not a figure but a car. He was figuring out what formats would sell. So yes there are alot of figures that he may have over produced and are readily available at multiple retailers still. But by the same tolken there are alot of figures I can't find at retail and have not found at retail when going multiple chain stores to find them. So I resort to buying them online.

Also I'm curious which company you know of that is infalable and has a perfect sell through rate?

I already know the answer..it doesn't exist.

Sales in general for any company is most times a crap shoot, just becuase you try to produce a product you know to be favorable to the consumer and the company, does not mean consumer/retail reaction will be favorable.

Dr Kain 09-04-2022 10:10 PM

Let me put it this way, I see the DC figures stick around on the pegs far longer than any Marvel Legends released in the last two years.

And then there are McFarlane figures my stores never bothered to sell like the Year 2 Batman and the Killing Joke Joker. I'm not sure how they sell in your area, but in mine, the McFarlane figures collect dust compared to every other line that isn't WWF. Hell, even the Mario figures from Jakks have to be restocked more times than DC.
