As long as I get the opportunity to buy an Enchantress figure who's face doesn't look like it's been run over by a steam roller I'll also be happy :)

I must have missed that question, because the only Q&A answer I saw that asked about a comic series for Thor was answered in such a way that there might not be ANY comic versions in the Thor line.

In other words, it was one of those "corporate doublespeak" answers that didn't really give a straight answer to the question.

Couple that with what we're already seeing, and it's looking like there's a strong possibility there won't be ANY comic figures for Thor. And if there are, then chances are it's going to be:

Thor (Classic)
Thor (Modern)
Thor (Lord of Asgard)
Thor (Bearded/Eric Masterson version)
Thor (Ultimate)
Loki (Classic)
MAYBE a Destroyer or "Thorstroyer"

I wouldn't put good odds on getting many/any secondary characters or villains.

Ah well, maybe Thor will get extra love in the Marvel Universe line next year, though I was figuring the line would go X-Men heavy due to there not being any official X-Men: First Class toy tie-in.

Snowflakian 02-03-2011 05:44 AM

I'm only planning on getting 2 anyway, thor with battle hammer/sword and Destroyer.

XFC could still have a line. We won't know for certain until Toy Fair. Though I'm not expecting it, with them having already shown the cap line and thor lines, the only big surprises left are XFC and what's coming in MU, besides Marvel legends. Though Marvel legends may wait until the cons later this year as they are more fan oriented. So we may see just the next 2 MU waves, and maybe some random XFC offerings. Not really sure overall. We'll find out in 10 days though. =D

Yeah, I'm 99.9 percent certain there's no XFC line whatsoever, and here's why:

1. The movie comes out in-between Thor and Cap, yet we haven't even gotten so much as a single hint that there's any kind of tie-in line. No prototypes, no retailer listings, nada....

2. The movie's production schedule has been REALLY rushed. Hasbro likely didn't even have time to have toys go through the full production cycle as I don't think they even finished filming until a couple months ago.

3. It's already a "crowded" summer for Hasbro, with Thor, Captain America, and Transformers 3 all hitting shelves in addition to their ongoing lines. I don't see toy aisles sustaining shelf space for another movie line in addition to those (plus Green Lantern from Mattel which looks to be getting a pretty big push).

As for other stuff at NYTF:

No Marvel Legends at Toy Fair. They're not coming back until 2012, so I suspect we won't get our first preview until SDCC. Besides, SDCC has traditionally been the place for Marvel Legends revelations. However, we might see some 6" scale figures as exclusives/tie-ins to the Cap and Thor movies, plus possibly some additional TRU two-packs and/or further assortments of the "Iron Man Legends" line. There's a slim chance that they might show off one or two ML prototypes at TF, but I'm not counting on it.

Probably only one or two new waves of Marvel Universe, as once again, SDCC is usually where they show the most stuff for comic-based properties.

We'll likely see the "official" unveiling of wave 2 of the Thor line, and wave 3 of the Cap line. Maybe an additional wave for each beyond that, too. Plus vehicles/playsets/etc... for both lines.

Transformers 3 will be their biggest "push" for the year, and will be their "surprise" (not exactly) at Toy Fair.

The usual smorgasbord of Star Wars stuff (both Clone Wars and Vintage).

A smattering of G.I. Joe stuff (probably the two recently-announced waves and that's it, as the G.I. Joe convention is only a month and a half after Toy Fair).

I agree on most of that, but sometimes Hasbro knows how to keep things close to their chest as well. I was refering mostly to marvel though, as Habro tends to give a good focus across all their brands at Toy Fair for a good retailer push, even if it's only a few each. Now again, I don't expect an XFC offering, but it could be in the cards for something they'll mention to get retailers to want it. With so many big budget films coming at once to push all these lines, and the limited amount planned for thor, it would make sense to keep the dollar signs flashing in retailers eyes to want to carry it all since they like big budget films to push lines. It's one of those we'll have to wait and see. Though, for all we know that may be the main reason behind some of the MU box sets coming that seem so X-Men or Mutant heavy.

Yeah, that's my belief: That Marvel Universe will become "X-Men Heavy" this year as an unofficial tie-in to First Class. Marketing synergy and all that.

Snowflakian 02-03-2011 08:34 AM

As long as we get a decent Emma out of it near wave 5, I'm fine with that.

Now I just wish they'd put Destroyah up for preorder already. I got my cap and thor pre-orders done thanks to BBTS. One each from the lines lol. Cap Britain, and Capeless thor. Just need destroyah. I think I'll wait on a movie cap until avengers to fit better in with whatever they update his costume to.

Jmacq1 02-03-2011 08:35 AM

Not sure there's going to be much updating for Cap's costume in Avengers, honestly. They "final design" looks modern enough as it stands, and it's not like the regular Marvel Universe Cap switched costumes upon reaching the present day.

Ultimate is another story, however the Cap designs for the movie are already very Ultimate-like.

Besides, when you're banking your movie on folks recognizing these characters from their solo movies, you don't want to change up their look much (if at all).

Except that we know Ironman will be different, as will be hulk, and Nick Fury is in the cap movie, so Steve may get some new duds, or new duds in avengers that have more modern shield tech associated. Not overtly so, but just a few minor things here and there. Either way, they'll probably re-release his movie-line figure then if it's the same. Just better all around to wait and see for me, than wasting money on cap figures now, and being forced into buying a more accurate one later. Plus there was a comment about the wings being painted on in WWII is fitting, but not so fitting for avengers in a previous interview about the films.

Jmacq1 02-03-2011 10:09 AM

We know Iron Man will be different? From where?

Nevermind that unlike Captain America, Iron Man is a character that changes his costume virtually every five minutes anyhow.

It was one the discussions with Whedon iirc. So much of the news goes by on my newsfeeders that I don't often remember who said what nowadays, unless I mark it to use the link.

It was either icv2, Hero Complex, CBR, or the other 15 on my feeder that's not in front of me right now.

But there was also the interview recently about cap that said something similiar about his winged mask. And how painted on wings wouldn't work for modern times that suggests he'll be getting some minor changes for avengers as well. Probably something more sleak for modern times since his WWII armored uniform doesn't really reflect modern shield capabilities. Keep in mind though, this isn't 616 marvel, but they also shouldn't be straying from some form of the main design either. As you said, recognizability, but at this point, I don't think that's as much a concern as previously since they keep swapping out actors. Plus it gives excuses for even more merchandising, instead of just re-releasing what was made the year prior that kids already have. Gotta have a reason for kids to buy whatever the avenger line figures are. (This doesn't mean I'm expecting bucky cap or head of shield Rogers, just enough differences to warrant a modified figure or new figure.) Here's an example of what I mean from the cap line http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/p...il&picture=out That costume as it is, will probably be streamlined moreso, no helmet, and tightened all around for Avengers since he's no longer a soldier in WWII, but now what'll be leading a 'super hero' team. So some of those gray straps may be faded out in favor of a more form fitting 'Go Team America' type patriotic feel.

Happy Hogan's gone possibly. (Favre no longer directing, his role as happy hogan still up in the air.)
New Hulk
New Bruce Banner
Mentioned alterations to Ironman
New Rhodes between IM1 and IM2.
I'm not even sure how much will change after cap and thor while avengers is filming this summer after they hit theaters, or for that matter for the avengers sequels.

Kind of makes me wonder if there'll be a new Thor with helmet or something for the Avengers as well. Though I'll be just fine with the helmetless one I picked as is. Gives him a more thunderstrike feel.

Jmacq1 02-03-2011 11:46 AM

Uh...Thor has his helmet in the movie.

And I'm quite certain the helmeted version of the figure will be in the second wave of the movie toys.

trebleshot 02-03-2011 01:06 PM

I'll definitely pick up Mjolnir. Not sure about anything else yet.

Amalberga81 02-03-2011 11:37 PM

still waiting for their comic series for this THOR Movie. wonder which figure they will release for the comic series hmmmmmmmm...i really want for these below character to release in comic series :
- THOR Classic version
- THOR New version
- THOR Ultimate version
- Thunder Strike
- Beta Ray Bill
and other character that have connection with him such as :
- Enchantress
- Executioner
- LOKI
- Valkyrie
- Lady Sif
- Balder
- Volstagg
- Heimdall
- ODIN
it will be great to have ASGARDIAN member a lot later hehehehe

Jmacq1 02-04-2011 04:52 AM

Well, as noted above, things aren't looking too good for a comic series right now. But if we get one (and I hope we do), I'd say out of your list it's likely we'd get all the Thor versions, Loki, Odin, and maybe Beta Ray Bill (and I'd add the Destroyer).

Love to have the other characters, but it's looking like any comic line for Thor is going to be scaled way back compared to what we got for Iron Man 2 (and seemingly Captain America).
