Including their own toylines, there has been 65 Iron Man toys, 6 of Cyclops, 19 Thors, 20 Captain America toys, 34 Wolverine toys and 69 figures of Spider-Man, give or take a few miscalculations, based on Wikipedia lists for the current and recent toylines. 213 figures of 6 characters in, what, 2 or 3 years? If we take the average for 3 years, every MONTH we have received SIX figures of these characters, BASED ON MATHEMATICAL AVERAGE. That's a wave EVERY MONTH that could have been of the list above.

Food for thought.

I agree that there has been an imbalance with the distribution of who is getting made into a toy.

However, look at this in perspective of where ML in it's lineup in it's 3rd yr. Give or take a few oddities (didn't have winter soldier, they had Zemo etc etc), its kind of proportional.

Yes the line was produced by another company and then transfered to a different one, which COULD explain the remake issue. But the fact of the matter is is that half of those figures you listed above never have been made in ANY LINE.

And it is important to remember that if we want to see those figures one day made in plastic that the line stay healthy. Now we can definitely debate what constitutes healthy for a line, and some of it is definitely out of there control (prices are set by the stores as well as distribution). But they are covering their backs by not putting out an obscure wave after obscure wave. While the fan base will eat it up, it has no kid appeal.

Eventually the line COULD get to where DCIH was where 75% of the figures only meant something to the comic book/toy collector enthusiasts, and it was impossible for a kid to find Superman.

BTW as a side note, There is no way in hell Magneto will be a repaint. Again....the Daredevil mold is retired (which he used). They will use a new one.

Nexodusrex 06-30-2011 05:49 AM

I think the perfect balance of a good wave is to look at 2011 wave 1

Doc Samson, Spiderwoman, WWHulk, Bleeding Edge Ironman, Spiderman 2099, and Captain Marvel.

2 well known, already made characters to attract the distributers, 4 new characters to fill out the rest. That should be the rule to all Waves. Its a nice balance. I go to the stores that have had that wave and all I find are bleeding edge Ironmen. which tells you the others sold, which leads me to say the 2 well known figures should be the chases so we can get the others more

Wave 5 dosent really do that. You got the well Known characters, With Wolverine and Tony Stark. Magneto is definently a new mold that we needed, though should be in a comic pack to leave a space open for a newer character
but the presence of Asborbing Man and Iceman shows a bit of lazyness. Like they are filler. UNLESS they are whole new complete reiterations that look freakin awesome, I think I'd prefer them in comic packs or boxed sets. Like Iceman VS Mystique, Absorbing Man VS Hulk

Damn, you're right! We need more Iron Mans-QUICK! And Spidey has three new costumes too! And there's that awesome new War Machine suit...we gotta write Hasbro to get with the program!

Also, who would want a Xorn figure? The most scientificly illiterate character ever concieved (He's head is a star! Dur.) and Marvel's biggest embarassment in a decade- Marvel has said we've seen the last of that awful excuse to bring back Magneto.

What makes you assume Magneto is a new mold? All the repainted figures are just that- repainted Secret Wars figures in single cards with no changes to their molds. Doom and Ultron are certainly unchanged..why would Magneto be any different?

You could always swap his head, lower legs and forearms onto a Piledriver body and get some red paint- viola! Easy fix.

cellardoor 06-30-2011 06:47 AM

Tony Stark Iron Man is a confusing one. I'll be interested to see this one.

Iceman - Lots of potential for costumed versions of the XMO but it'll likely be a simple re-paint/re-package.

Absorbing Man - How do you create a "new" figure and a variant for ebay scalpers to charge $117 dollars? You repack the secret wars and then paint up a load of metal grey versions as the variant. Why not go crazy and offer up a dozen variants with sand, wood effect etc!

Astonishing Wolverine - Should be a good one if they get the head sculpt right. Please avoid the Patch head!

Magneto - Likely a secret wars re-pack/paint but I can hope for a helmetless Magneto...or maybe an Age of X costume variant?

I guess this might be Hasbro taking mercy on us though. It looks like the first wave I might skip entirely, freeing up some cash for the comic packs, Super Hero Packs and Sentinel!

boombatty 06-30-2011 07:02 AM

Obvious filler Wave.
My guesses (but I don't think this very hard to figure out):

Tony Stark Iron Man - No-Brainer. The unreleased Iron Man 2 wave figure. Hasbro said they would tried to find a way to release these. This is the one with Tony in his sunglasses and an IM suit (think the donut scene in IM2). Anyone care to place odds?

Iceman - My guess is a clear version of the Spidey & his Amazing Friends pack Ice Man, perhaps with a new head sculpt (which Hasbro has been know to do).

Absorbing Man - Repaint I am sure.

Astonishing Wolverine - 100% certain this is the X-Force pack Wolverine. I say this b/c the X-Force Wolverine IS THE Astonishing Wolverine. The Tiger Stripes are molded on the figure and the Boots are an exact match. I couln't be more certain of this. X-Force is the repaint of this figure (except it came out first - lol).

Magneto - The only one I am not sure yet if it will be a repaint. There are a ton of bodies that Hasbro could use for Magneto. They only have to add a Belt (which has been sculpted for the original release), a Cape (also pre-scultped) and a head (which may be a new sculpt or not). they could easily do a straight repaint (and have been known to in the past) but this is the easiest figure, based on costume to recreate (ala the update of Spider Man from the chubby kid mold to the tall thin Black Spidey mold).

I have to mightily disagree on that for one reason, Marvel Legends Super Hero Showdown. They produced the greatest Daredevil figure I have ever seen (and did the Yellow Repaint too!). I would highly, highly, highly recommend finding those two on eBay. They are as perfect as it gets and uber-articulated.

I have been watching for one, but they are rather expensive. I will only spend so much for a toy lol. The MU line needs a new Daredevil, even though the showdown one is epicly epic.

Well I know the majority are pissed about this wave as well you have a right to be but from my POV I see more than that

Tony Stark/ Iron Man: Better for me cause then I can switch the heads with any Iron Man figure I have on my shelf so that's not so bad & it's a huge plus if they decide to make a brand new armor that was never in scale with the MU's

Iceman: This one has me with mixed emotions but if they re-issue the XMO Iceman then it's not so bad since he carries his "ice board" & he might bad a bit tough to get these days since he's slowly fading out of any online store (eBay & amazon included)

Absorbing Man : Huge pass for me sorry to say it but I can get the Doom 2 pack with a nicer colored Doom (not digging the guacamole colored one that's coming down the pike). So i don't think its worth it unless he's fully transformed into whatever he touches.

Astonishing Wolverine: Thank God this one is coming out I don't wanna pay ridiculous prices for the XMO one & buy the 90's XMO version to pop off the head. & if my memory serves me right then there is a silhoutted pic of him with the big peaks on his mask so it could cross that pic off (which leaves us with 5 confirmed & 8 that aren't confirmed yet)

Magneto: Well they might re-use the old mold, pull off a mattel & make him more size accurate or even do a sculpt that fits him so I have my fingers crossed here. As to what version they'll do I'm not certain but here's to hoping for an Ultimate, Helmetless, removable helmet or maybe even New X Men version.

Optimus Vader 06-30-2011 09:31 AM

Seems like a weak wave, but without images I can't say what I'll be buying. Regardless of him being a repaint or not I'll get Magneto though, because he's the man. Hopefully it isn't a repaint of the shitty comic pack figure.

One question,.. I've read a lot of "the DareDevil mold has been retired" posts in there; this was documented somewhere, or is that just what some dude on the internet said once?

I have no reason not to believe any of you, but I also don't know you people, and this is the internet after all. Over on TFW2005 people talk out their ass all day long about "missing molds" and what not.

Thanks. That's pretty damn excited news for Magneto fans then.

theestampede 06-30-2011 10:02 AM

if it was gonna be a filler wave, could they not have at least put a few of the hard to get figures like cable and 90's cyclops in it?

Wow. I am really disappointed in this wave. Even with Astonishing Wolverine and the potential for a new Magneto body, this is lame. The Marvel Universe has such a huge library of characters that producing a wave without even one new character is just lame.

The only way Hasbro can adequately apologize to collectors now is to release two or three waves straight of awesome characters that haven't had figures yet.

Unfortunately Hasbro zombified me many years ago and I will probably buy every one of these. I am also lame.

xhavoc86 06-30-2011 05:45 PM

Just what we needed, more Wolverines!

I don't think I want anything from this line except maybe Iceman...

thechris 06-30-2011 06:30 PM

Yeah, practically weeping about this wave. If it continues going like this, fans are going to turn on Hasbro like they did on Mattel with the DC Infinite Heroes line. I was buying those like crazy and they started doing stupid packaging with Superman in a box set and crap to the point where everyone ended up with 5 or 6 Superman, Captain Marvel, Flash and Lex Luthor figures and to be fair, they were a lot less annoying with the repaints and a lot better with the production of obscure characters than Hasbro have been although not giving us an Aquaman or important Flash villain like Trickster until interest in the line was basically dead.

My point is that no matter how popular a line is, interest will eventually fizzle out when they start pumping out lazy repeats and it doesn't matter how hard they try in the end. No one will care. For example, Mattel answered the poor articulation issue on their DCIH line after interest dropped to zero. They produced figures of popular characters like Martian Manhunter and Aquaman at the END of the line as a last ditch effort to reignite interest in the line. And I'm a hardcore collector. I collected every DCIH figure and have every Marvel figure and collected Heroclix and Dungeons and Dragons miniatures and never missed a line.

I know what it's like to be baited by a toy company and zombie or not, we do learn and we do eventually give up on a line. It's annoying when Mattel doesn't release a figure as important as an Aquaman or a Martian Manhunter. Or Wizards releases a monster as common as a troll as a "rare" figure. And in this case, it's a slap to the face to get another set of repaints and minor revisions of the same guys when we need well known characters like Beast, Rogue and Professor X to finish our X-Men teams. Nothing pisses me off more than a company and releases a series of figures INCOMPLETE.

Justice League NEEDED Superman, Flash, Batman, Hawkman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman in order to be complete. It seemed almost desperate (an a little last bit of thank-you to the loyal collectors) when Mattel FINALLY released Aquaman in a Starro boxset SDCC exclusive. Why even bother creating a Secret Wars line if they never intended on giving us a Lizard, Molecule Man, Volcana, Titania, Doc Ock, Beyonder, She Hulk, Professor X, Kang, Rogue, Psylocke or Captain Marvel? And no, they shipped Lizard in such low quantities from the Spider-Man toyline that he sells for 40 bucks on eBay and I can't find him in stores anywhere. I'm sick of buying a set of toys where I'm only getting half of a team or half of a something.

It's like why bother? And we got Spider-Man TWICE in the Secret Wars line. There was already a black Spider-Man and a regular Spider-Man several times over. Why didn't they leave those two slots for another two guys?? Why do Dark Avengers if we weren't getting Noh-Varr or Ares for another year or two? Why do X-Men if we don't know for sure if we're getting Beast? Why do Secret Wars if the Wrecker was the only guy we were going to get outside of the line over the span of a year?? Giant Size X-Men boxset, no Banshee?

I looked at how many Spider-Men I have and I was disgusted. I have close to 10 Spider-Man figures and I don't even have ALL of them yet. I'm still waiting on my Sentry figure and when that arrives in the two pack, I'll have 11. And then with the new Captain Britain/Spider-Man two pack, I'll have 12. This is pissing me off. You guys can't pack these guys with someone else? I don't want your stinking comics if that's what determines the two packs. How about giving us a boxset of the remaining Secret Wars guys?

Or a "Because Fans With More Than Half a Brain Wanted It, You know, the ones who aren't fanboys who are beating themselves off to the prospect of YET ANOTHER Wolverine or Spider-Man or Iron Man figure with a new paint job or slightly different body configuration." boxset containing OBVIOUS figures like BLUE FURRY WELL-KNOWN Beast, OLD SCHOOL Doctor Octopus, Elektra, The 90s Scarlet Witch, Hercules and Rogue. I feel like I have to specify which versions, otherwise we'll get Dark Beast before we even get regular Beast... It's not all bad. LOL. I'll post a happy post after.

i agree with this, wow you're very details man hehehehe....we cant depend and always looking back to the past, i mean they have to innovative and move forward, not always give service for reissuee and repaint figure for NEW people who just start to collect, sorry if my word too harsh for new people but this is the fact and as collector or some one who like COLLECTING hobbies, you cant depend HASBRO or other toy company always give you reissue or repaint or whatever figure just because you are new guys or new collector, you have to give effort to hunt and look for it, thats a value for being a collector. imagine, this kind of habits will continue until 5-10 years or more, how many same figures we will meet and found ??? that sucks, really sucks...i dont want have same figures every month or every wave even they only change head or others part for only making good appearance, i dont care.
the good balance for each wave is in wave 5 that have capt marvel, doc samson, spidey 2099, iron man bleeding edge, and world war hulk. this is fresh and very good balance, all new figures. next wave shoud like this.

thechris 06-30-2011 10:22 PM

Okay, happy post. The bright side. Okay, well, I guess I could always pretend the repaint is Dr. Doom and the old one is a Doombot or vice versa. Also, Ultron with red highlights is Ultron 11 from Secret Wars, so Ultron with green highlights can be Ultron "Mark 12" who is a good Ultron from a heartwarming story that turns tragic. Spoiler: Ultron 12 calls himself Mark 12 in an attempt to seem more human and calls Hank Pym dad. He goes by Mark and tries to save Pym from Ultron 11. In doing so, he dies via robo-decapitation. Unfortunately, I can't find a use for a second Absorbing Man or Magneto... It'd better be something really special like a brick pattern or something better then splashing mud all over the guy. And Magneto with no helmet perhaps although this could be achieved by putting the new Quicksilver head on Magneto's body...

Hmmm... Yeah, I'm really trying hard to like this new line but I'm still not going to be satisfied until they give closure to the Secret Wars line, finish off X-Men's classic line up with Beast, finish off Dark Avengers with Ares and Noh-Varr. Frick, give us an Invisible Girl that has the same costume as the rest of the Fantastic Four for frick sakes. Like seriously. What's up with these unfinished lines? Give us a Scarlet Witch to pair up with Quicksilver. And Banshee to finish off Giant Size X-Men.

"Oh, they'll give us those figures. Don't worry." Oh will they? Like they gave us Beast instead of 10 more Spider-Men? I have to wait 2 years for them, though, right? By then, this toyline will be dead like every toyline and we won't get Beast or Banshee or the rest of the Secret Wars guys and I will never trust another Hasbro toyline ever again. Hasbro is using the age old ploy of baiting. Like I said in my previous post, all toy companies do it but we the collectors suffer in the end. The hardcore ones that buy all the toys to support this line in hopes that we will be able to "complete" our collections and with this false hope, they keep messing up until we lose interest and the toyline dies and it remains unfinished. Stop giving us one thing without the other. People are only going to keep buying left shoes until they stop buying without promise of a full pair.

They're only giving us what they can recycle. We got a Pheonix/Cyclops repack basically in the X-Men First Class set. Are we getting Beast and Angel? Fat chance. Beast requires a brand new sculpt and Angel requires new wings to be sculpted. Too much work. Who wants to wager we'll get a Cyclops repaint with Astonishing X-Men costume packaged with some piece of crap? I mean we basically got the same Pheonix pack Cyclops packaged in the Giant Size X-Men boxset, right? I mean it's essentially the same figure, even same colour scheme. It's just one has the wash highlights and the other has the comic book style highlights.

Okay, what I'm saying is I pretty much bought as well as pre-ordered every single Marvel Universe figure. I even have the Nick Fury mail-away and X-Force Archangel mail-aways. I'm not "boycotting" this line but I'm about ready to cut my losses. I'm not on strike. It's more like "Well, my collection will never get done now, so what's the point?" I am SO disappointed with this new wave, it's not even funny. I waited ages for this wave to get announced and I actually saw it on BBTS before it was even posted on here after days of refreshing their page until it got updated.

I am absolutely disgusted. I realize I said this post would be in better spirits and it started out that way, but Hasbro, you have really let me down in a bad way. I know a lot of people will snicker about this post but keep in mind that there are a lot more people with my mentality than the ones whose undies crust over from pre-jizz over a new Wolverine repaint and there's only so much we can take before we say screw it.

Look, you guys like doing repaints, right?? Take the thing, sand off his rocks, take some epoxy and mold some fur on him, give him a new head, you got Beast. Repaint Marvel Girl, you got Titania, repaint another girl, you got Volcana, put a new head on Absorbing Man, stick on some new sleeves, Sandman. Repaint Green Goblin as Gray Goblin. Just PLEASE, give us a NEW guy. I don't care that Karla Sofen is made from pieces of both Ms. Marvels with a new head sculpt. That was GREAT because it was a new character. I prefer that over 20 Wolverines. I don't give a CRAP if you guys just take a Spider-Man head and stick it on Spider Woman's body, give it a paint job and call it Spider-Girl. Just give us NEW characters.

It's just upsetting when I see a new line and one of the slots is taken up by Peter Parker, Tony Stark or James "Logan" Howlett in a variety of different "shades" or minor variations. The fact that we're getting so many Iron Man variation sculpts is bad enough but when you keep recycling Spider-Man and Wolverine and give them various repaints of different shades and make Spider-Man's eyeballs bigger or Wolverine's brown is darker brown. I'd better stop ranting before I explode.

I'm sorry, but I don't think the kids are going to be clamouring to buy their very own Absorbing Man action figure considering the last. LOL. And FYI, it was never impossible for a kid to find Superman in the DCIH line. He had a couple of variants and also came in a 3 pack with Supergirl and Wonder Girl as well as the Public Enemies boxset, Doomsday boxset and the vs Lexcorp boxset just to name a few. Okay, Dr. Doom a kid miiiiiiiight buy. Fantastic Four isn't exactly popular with the kiddos anymore. Magneto I can kind of see. But Ultron and Absorbing Man? Do they even know who these guys are?

I think most of us are so on edge now with this series that we're actually getting a little bit irritable that the slightest annoyance (this latest Wave) is going to piss us off. After all the complaining we've been doing about too many Wolverines, Iron Mans and Spider-Mans, for them to give us a new wave where EVERY figure has already been released once by this line, two of which are the very ones that people are constantly complaining about, it's like getting kicked in the teeth really hard. It almost seems deliberate, you know? Like they read these forums and decided, "Let's make them really mad..." I mean what does the development team do at Hasbro? LOL. "Hmmm, let's come up with this month's line." "Ok, let's repaint Wolverine again and put a new head on him." "Genius! Any other ideas?" "Take the Absorbing Man figure and put the mud on the other side of his body." "Great idea, Nick!!" "Gosh Fred, this might be a little crazy but how about we swap out Magneto's torso?" "Right on the money! We need something new, though..." "Iron Man?" "Bingo!" Filler Wave is right...

Artist77, while I would love to see all those figures released, I partially have to agree with Tarquinius in that half of these suggestions have never seen a figure and probably never will. While this is my opinion only, only a fraction of those deserve a figure before the rest. There's definitely a hierarchy. For example, Baron Zemo, Baron Strucker, Kang, Rogue, Abomination, Sandman, Hercules, Ares, Marvel Boy, Beast, Scarlet Witch, Emma Frost over Hulkling, Wiccan, Cloud 9, Bob, Alchemist. Kids won't even know who these guys are. Most kids don't read comics anymore. If they don't appear in a movie or cartoon, they won't know. Whether or not a figure will sell is still a factor and in all fairness, Kang will sell based on the fact that he will complete Secret Wars, Zemo and Strucker have been in the spotlight recently with the Avengers cartoon, a lot of those will sell on a casual collector level but a lot of them will only be popular to hardcore collectors. I can see half of those suffering from Multiple Man syndrome. Befitting his name, there are multiples of Multiple Man on the shelves at every shop I've been to, especially the Walmarts. Walmart seems to LOVE bringing in the Multiple Men...

yeah, agreed this wave looks super lame. But if Iceman and Magneto are done right, I'll definitely buy.

Iceman - hope it's a clear/transparent form

Magneto - Hasbro has a tendancy to sculpt maskless/helmet-less characters looking like total douches. I wouldn't be surprised if there were to be a running change for this fig.

"Right on the money! We need something new, though..." "Iron Man?" "Bingo!" Filler Wave is right...

But what you're forgetting is that in EVERY Q and A one website would be like

"Where is our Astonishing Wolverine?"

"What happened to the maskless Ironman?"

"Will we be getting more First Class Figures?"

"The Daredevil mold sucks, will Magneto/Daredevil/others be redone at sometime?"

We asked all of these questions in such a RABID manner that they actually took heed and are doing it.

I have to be a total asshole and say, for those of who don't like this wave:

1) Wait for SDCC to make a decision then. All this speculation is driving us nuts. For example, if you knew this time last year that in Febuary 2011, we would be getting a Cyclops, we would be pissed because we would figure he would be the crappy Cyclops we all have 4 of. But instead, TA DA, they surprised. Just wait to see what it is.

2) If you still really don't like this wave after seeing it, then all I can say is don't keep begging Hasbro to make figures. With the exception of Absorbing man, we've all pushed to get these figures through the Q and A. And we can sit here and complain how the figures are disproportional in their Famous/Obscure figures, but this wave is clouding ALL of the other good stuff they have given us this year (Guardians of the Galaxy set is a huge under the table hand shake to comic book people more then kids)

Those look great!

I bought a case from BBTS so I'd have extras for customs. Especially for Dark Hawk, because with some tweaking of the XForce pack Wolverine head and the Dark Hawk figure, wallah, you have Shadow Hawk (Image).

I agree with Tarq in that it seems some of you might be overreacting just a teeny little bit. Seriously, if you don't like the figures when you finally see the pics (or in the store), then for the love of Primus, don't buy them. It's as simple as that.

Keep in mind, though, that just because you don't like them, doesn't mean that everyone else feels the same. But at the same time, there are people who may not want another Absorbing Man, Iceman or Magneto (damned if I know why, the SW 2-pack one sucked).

But one thing you should always keep in mind is that Hasbro does not do anything simply because they like pissing off collectors and fans. There is a rhyme and a reason for everything they do and it usually involves money (or the occasional fan service).

As for my own personal opinion on the wave, I'm pretty happy with it so far, but I reserve judgment until I see pics. Then I'll decide what to buy and what to pass on.

That's a great idea for a custom! I would love to see how it turns out, if you get the opportunity.

Trebleshot,

I agree with you that judgment on whether or not to purchase these figures should be reserved until we see some images. They may just bee too awesome to pass on. On the other hand, I think it's OK for people to express disappointment that we will be getting an entire new wave without even one new character.

Will I buy these figures? Absolutely (I'm trying to be a completest with MU). Do I wish this wave included some new interesting characters like Beast, Scarlet Witch, Kang, Baron Zemo, Mr. Sinister, etc. instead of Absorbing man (WTF)? Absolutely.
