I don't really play with my toys anymore. I always think that I will and to be honest, that could be one of my motivations to getting more so I could have the "ultimate play experience" but that almost never happens.

That is one of my motivations for buying as many toys as I do.

I feel like I need to have all the toys I could possibly need for that ultimate play experience I'll have some day when I retire and the kids are all out of the house.

As a kid I always dreamed I would open an action figure museaum with displays of every action figure line produced as well.

I say this is prolly for most of us. It's the "inner kid" trying desperately to come out!!!

Kind of how I feel. Love posing, setting up scenes, snapping photos, looking at them later, etc,.. but I don't do the "pew pew pew!" and make flying noises. Not that I'm far from that, or too mature (i'm certainly not too mature), but I don't go that far.

trebleshot 09-07-2011 06:06 AM

I still fiddle with my toys (posing and/or transforming them), but the only time I make any sound effects or noises is when I'm playing with my daughter. She thinks the voices are funny.

Oh, and I will occasionally make the transformation sound with one of my TF toys, usually with a G1 character.

reminds me of an old saying I once heard:

That would be a paraphrase of a quote from Spaceballs:

Dark Helmet: "So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

"Did you see anything?"

"No sir, I didn't see you playing with your toys."

Shin Densetsu 09-08-2011 11:03 AM

I still do but these days I usually pose them and look at them rather then clashing them together.

CLASSIFIED 09-09-2011 09:01 AM

Clashing toys together was the optimal mode of play for Transformers as I recall.

Or at least that's what the kids in the commercial did with them after they got them into robot mode.

I wonder if that was an articulation issue or just the funnest thing you could do with your toys?

Zictor 09-09-2011 05:30 PM

When I was a kid I used to want all the bad guys but I only ever got all the good guys. I think that bad guys are more interesting overall because some of them aren't evil, they just have different views... I always see it as, we think we're the good guys, but this country was once taken over by our ancestors, so to the previous occupants we are the bad guys.

Say what you will about Star Wars Episode III but the best quote from that is "Good is a point of view Anakin." I do find now though that I actually root for the bad guys and always feel disappointed when they lose, except in the rare occasions where they do triumph.... like the end of watchmen.

Anyway after that massive tangent I'll get back to the point... Now that they've started making the more obscure characters rather than just The Hero and maybe one or two Villains (YEAH I'm looking at you EVERY GOD DAMN SPIDER-MAN LINE!) I've seen it as a chance to jump and get the characters as they were never available to me when I wanted them the most. I also find that its a way of exploring the Marvel Universe a bit more, you come across one you don't recognise and it's like "Ooooh who's this" bit of research later they're you're fav character and you want all their friends and nemeses etc...

And I don't play with them as such, it's more of a posing thing, I like taking photo's and making comic strips/photoshopping them. There's only so much the top of my desk (or printer at present) will do for the image.

First thing I though of when I saw this thread.

I do and I don't, if that makes sense. I remember when I was a teen, my girlfriend and I (She was also a collector and comic geek) would pull out all our x-men and marvel figures, and have grand old comedy adventures. Someone always ended up getting uppercut by someone with super strength, flying off team rocket style, and eventually landing on spiderman. "My Spider-sense is tingling... but from where? *SPLAT*"
Cyclops and Colossus were both always constipated (Because of their expressions), and Jubilee would usually end up making Wolverine cry.

We had a looot of fun.

The way you word that implies that you two are either no longer together or no longer do that. Either way, you've made a mistake, sir.

Now, I rarely ever do anything on that scale (I'd admit it if I did. Especially since it seems so many here actually do too), but I always have a half dozen or more figures in reach of me. I always have to have something to keep my hands busy. And if it's a transformer, then usually gets driven across the be, or armrest... or flown around in acrobatic feats (If a jet).
That actually sums up what I do nowadays. It's really to keep my hands busy and to inspire me to write (I'm something of a writer, and by "something" I mean "I do it when I'm not feeling lazy, which is all too rare"). But I do confess to occasionally acting out scenarios with voices and everything. Mostly goofy ones.

KshatriyaNZ666 09-13-2011 04:38 PM

My version of playing is taking them down from their displays once in a while and pushing the joints to their limits posing fight scenes or whatever. Clashing toys together is something I've NEVER done (even as kid) and never really made any sense to me. This pertains to my general action figures though - I really can't go 2 days without laying my hands on 'em. :)

Japanese toys on the other hand: Revos and figmas are basically pose'em and forget'em for me. As for my Robot Spirits, D-Arts and Play Arts, they get more hands-on pose and fight value.

proteus 09-13-2011 04:42 PM

I dont play as such, but im always running new scenes through my head, stuff like characters origins,or battle scenes,so i guess thats kinda playing right?? ( to be fair if i could ever get a damn custom finished, maybe id play with it!!!)

Not my mistake. Her's. She started treating me like I was garbage. So badly that even her best friends (They were my friends too, but they came with her) couldn't figure out what was up. She eventually stopped having anything to do with me, without even giving me the courtasy of breaking up.

Ouch. That sounds like something out of a Jason Reitman movie.

Sounds like she did you a favor, do you need some one like that in your life? Anywho, M3T4L V1KING has your stuff ready to go =D. I'll try and ship it tomorrow if I don't die tonight.

Thanks man! He sent me a PM about it this evening. I should have my half out tomorrow, too (I see no reason why this shouldn't happen)

I will get it out before friday, for sure. Currently fighting illness so I don't wanna drive, crash, die, and have your figure and parts die with me lol.

Y'know, I don't think I've heard about any cases of "sick driving" - don't be the first!;)
