Do Boy 09-16-2011 10:50 AM

Blu Ray is the MAIN reason I bought a PS3 at the time. lol

D00MTR0N 09-16-2011 10:52 AM

damnit, now I got the itch to see the new star wars stuff, damn george lucas is slick, but I can resist,no money = no blu ray player which in turn = no new star wars.

Tiberius 09-16-2011 10:55 AM

No more physical media anymore. The future is all digital. Downloads/Cloud. I actually don't like that. This is getting a little off topic, but companies are trying to move towards an all download/streaming model for their content. So, instead of buying a physical copy of the movie, you have to download or stream it to whatever device you want to view it on. What makes it worse is that some of the major companies are pushing to an all streaming model, where you can never outright buy a movie; you can only stream it. So, let's say you pay $5.00 to rent the movie. You can watch it as many times as you want within a certain time frame (let's say a week) and then the next time you want to watch that movie you have to rent it again. They're trying to get away from allowing consumers to straight up buy it so they can watch it for the rest of their lives without ever having to pay again. Of course, there's always gonna be ways to get around this, but that's the direction they're trying to go in.

Yup so true Ludo, Its also a way to cutout the previously viewed market and stop the "little guy" from cashing in on used dvds and BluRays by not having them be physically available. Also Cloud services suck because if you are running a service like that you can easily "delete" objectionable material and more easily control what the population watches and doesn't watch. On a plus side Netflixs is not such a giant they recently had a price increase because of a plan change. What people fail to see is that the bigger this service gets the more money studios want for their films to be licensed for streaming services, recently Starz Entertainment was in talks about breaking off its renewal with Netflix which ends early next year. In the end id rather pay once for a movie and know ill have it untill they stop making blurays because im a physical format guy and this is the last form of media im buying lol.

End rant, sorry its kinda off topic.

lmao, its good to know im not the only one without any patience, most of the collectors I know are all laid back and calm, the minute I hear there has been a sighting in my neck of the woods or something has a street date,im like a crack head man,I waited in front of tru back in 08 for 4 freakin hours just so I could be first in line for the "midnight madness" sale that launched the 08 legacy collection, all that to get a holo general grievous.

Do Boy 09-16-2011 11:23 AM

I don't have a Blu Ray player either.

My plan is to wait it out and skip over to the tech that replaces Blu Ray.

Tiberius 09-17-2011 12:59 PM

Im always checking for torrents with AVI format blu ray versions of Star Wars. If you are into "creatively aquireing" let me know

Do Boy 09-23-2011 01:06 PM

The Blu-Ray sold $84 million the first week it was released. Damn George Lucas just got a whole lot richer!!!

I finished watching the boxset last night. The films all look great in HD and the sound is nicely done with updated effects that are much better and clearer than their original counterparts.

What I really enjoyed seeing were the touch-ups done to the scenery in all six of the films. The detailing on the Death Stars and the planets make them look much more lifelike now.

All of the spaceships were touched up with more detailing. They look much more realistic now.

In my opinion, it was money well-spent. I was very impressed with the work that went into the restoration.

Completely agree ...Went through all 6 movies last weekend after I bought it.
All six movies have been touched up and blended so things in the prequesl dont look as cartoonish or stand out from the real aspects of the scene as much and previous fix to the OT have been blended further as well to mesh very well and be closer to seemless as far as lighting on the cgi add ins ...

ROTS ... Fixed Palpatines voice in the big reveal windu fight scene ... thank god
... also the fight scene itself loked a lot better i dont know if its because it was smoother in HD or if it was adjusted
The New Hope ... Han/Greedo adjusted again .. looks a lot better ...
... Jabba scene in docking bay 94 tweaked ... A Lot better
ESB ... lukes girly scream as he juimps in the vader scene gone ... forget if that was done the last release or not
ROTJ ... The dancer scene while still horrible looks a lot better
.. the ewoks eyelid thing looked natural ... i dont understand the uproar
... The Vader "No... pause Noooo" .. didnt bother me ... yes we all already didnt need the internal conflict spelled out for us as it was obvious .... but it wasn't out of place or poorly done ... just new

I know there was a few other things worth mentioning but needless to say there was a lot of work put into this set and it shows ... there are a lot of small fixes that arent making big news but are equally valuable.

Has anyone else noticed in certain scenes in revenge of the sith that the quality isn't quite upto the standard of the other films. Only in dark scenes, but to me it looked abit grainy.... My girlfriend even commented on the difference and she doesn't really know anything about blu rays or quality of picture. I just thought it was abut strange as that is the most recent film to be made.

Then find the OT Special Editions on DVD from 2004.

It comes with 2 copies of each film: the "Special Edition" version with the first round of tweaks and the original, un-edited and untweaked version. I think the only thing they did for the latter was remaster the sound and picture quality (but didn't change any of the actual sounds or images).
