I made a collage of all the Illumina Day-supporting Avatars that I saw used today as a thank you to everyone who took part in Illumina Day! Some are duplicates only because they were used by multiple people. It was a lot of work these few months spreading the word about Illumina, but I think a lot more people know who she is now. :)

Thank you for all the love for Illumina and the Illumina Day endeavor. :D

It's just a way to help get her presence known and out there. The main problem with obscure characters...is that they are obscure! If more people know about them, they can end up loving them. The same thing can be done with other obscure characters, that people may not know of.

About Might-Bite, unfortunately he will never be a possibility for MOTUC. Mattel does not own the rights to him because he did not appear in the MVC comic. That's the only reason he was not put on the .org's fan poll. A lot of people nominated him. I absolutely love Might-Bite too, so I'm crushed. :(

OK since he didn't appear in the comics Illumina really didn't either (except the one page ad) so that counts?

Just like that poll that had that unknown yellow character in the Tug of War from one of the mini comics that actually made it into the polls...are you kidding me? Are people really that stupid because they obviously don't get it!

They are LIMITED slot for these figures and just because of some fanboy(s) that are obsessed with a no name character or they just do it as a joke that in all possibilties it might take that slot away from a more deserving character...

Now I know you people love this character for some reason BUT here's the beef I have....If this figure is made it should be made AFTER:

1.All Of the Original He-Man figures make it into the line
2.All of the POP Figures are made
3.All New Adventures
4.All MYP
5.Any Filmation characters that have been wanted for years (Like Icer,Strongarm etc.)
6.Concept Characters like Gygor,Vikor & Demo Man from Mark Taylor etc.
7.Any Mini Comics,Storybook or the like first
8.THEN any obscure other characters should be placed here.

Listen this line is going to be going until 2016 (Any hopefully later) but I don't want any REALLY important figures getting bumped because of it..

Gotta say Tranzor Z, I think you're being a little hard on Darkspecter here. I personally don't care at all for Illumina. I mean, she's a pretty cool looking character, but my interest in the MOTUC line is more for the figures I had as a kid. I don't really care for the concept characters like Vikor. That being said, I just bought Demo-Man because I think he looks awesome. But mainly, I just want to get the characters that I remember. This line, for me, is primarily based on my nostalgia for this property.

But I have to say, I think it's absolutely awesome that Darkspector is pushing for a figure that HE wants to see get made. And he's obviously not the only one that wants an Illumina figure. And maybe the 4H will knock it out of the park and deliver a great looking figure that will make me glad to have her, where I originally couldn't have cared less, a la Demo-Man. If you don't want Illumina, that's cool. To each their own. But what are you doing to get momentum going for a character that you do actually want? At least the Illumina fans are letting their opinions be heard.

And as far as not wanting obscure figures before every single MOTU, POP, NA and MYP figures are produced, well, that's never gonna happen. If they make all the important characters first than a lot of interest in this line will drop off. The only reason the line would even be able to last until 2016, as you mentioned, is exactly because Mattel needs to release obscure characters in between important characters. That's the only way this thing is gonna keep going.

Please don't get me wrong. It's totally cool if you don't want Illumina to get a slot in 2013. Everyone has the right to their opinion. Just don't come down so hard on someone for expressing their's.

Maybe but you don't see more people pushing for a figure that appeared in an AD not a mini comics,filmation,magazine,etc but and ad!!!

The reason why I am disliking this character is that even though it a Fan fiction character (yes Fan fiction,concept etc)too many people are trying to put her in the MOTU Universe by making her possibly Keldor's mother which is stupid...AT least with character's like Vikor,Demo Man,Gygor those were concept's that Mattel made years ago and now had decided to use them in the MOTUC mythos which is fine because they made them! Might Bite (Another MVC Creation) was not being accepting because of "tooling issues" bs plain and simple. It's just that Illuminia can use existing parts and that gives all these"Fanboys/girls" the reason to hype her up for some reason. See I get the other characters that were in that poll but:

1.They have been around longer and were part of the continuity
2.Could be used stating Mattel with the "tooling" parts (I.E. Strobo)
3.Illuminia could have been submitted as the Custom Figure contest Mattel has made to make a figure (Thus leaving a spot to another figure in 2012-2013)

And all of this BS about Mattel "Owns her rights" but not Might Bite....WTF?? Really I think that's a lame excuse to include one or the other.

I guess in saying I have seen alot of these fan polls with different properties asking for a character to be made and 99.9% of the time it's a waste of time....(I.E. Willrow Hood)

And before I get anyone saying that Feraless Photog is a "fan" character...wrong Mattel bought the rights to that character so they own it show me where they bought the rights ' any MVC creation (including Illuminia & Might Bite)

I don't know what else to say about Might-Bite except Mattel does not own the rights to him. Mattel owns the rights to everything that appeared IN the MVC comics. Since Illumina's ad appeared in three separate issues 8 years ago, they own her.

Might-Bite was created by Emiliano and only appeared via his blog. Mattel had a very strange deal with MVC and it's very complicated, but Emiliano was hired on as a freelance for MVC and never signed any contracts or non-disclosures, etc. with Mattel. So all work he did that did not make it into the book is still sole property of himself (unlike direct employees hired by Mattel or if Mattel specifically hired him as a freelancer). I really don't like talking about legal stuff because it's so complex and annoying.

Technically, Mattel does not own the rights to all the story ideas in MVC's 200X Bible as it was never submitted to Mattel until the MOTUC toy line was going to happen. It was given to Toyguru as a "good faith" gift.

Mattel also can't make MOTUC figures of the concept art drawn by Mattel employees in the 80's unless the specifically own the piece of art. So, all the stuff you see in Tomarts magazine and The Power & Honor Fondation's Volume 1 catalog are also off limits (Horde Mummy, the Witch, etc.). I'm not sure if Mattel legal will change their position on that in the future, though. Supposedly they need to inspect the art to make sure it's official and have it on record if there are ever any legal disputes regarding the character. *shrugs*

Illumina is not fan-fiction at all, as she appeared in a licensed, Mattel product. She had a full story line and everything developed. Learning more about what happened near the end of the 200X comic, it was revealed why she never happened: Trademarks.

Earlier in the MVC comic you would see all these cool, new characters (like Mer-Man's arch enemy and they end up killing off each others entire species). They had names, but they were not trademarked. Mattel's legal team was A-ok with it and loved what the MVC crew was doing. Nearing the end of the series, Mattel's Girls Toy legal team took over and were very new to publishing. They were extremely "paranoid" of any name that was not trademarked. They were still 100% okay with new characters, but they were not allowed to call them by name, which made writing extremely difficult.

So, that's why Illumina never got into the comic: trademarks. It just would have been too difficult for them to do a story with a new central character and never being able to use her name.

Mattel knew MOTU was dying around the time and wouldn't spend any money on new trademarks. When the MYP cartoon ended, Mattel ended the license with MVC comics, even though it was still profitable. They just didn't see the point since the toy line and cartoon ended. MVC wanted to continue to do the comics until they could no longer pull a profit, but that was not to be.

I'm happy for the people who really wanted Demo-Man and Vikor (I really like them too), but they weren't really necessary. They're He-Man and Skeletor. That's what their designs looked like at the first stage. Mark Taylor was told they looked too much like Conan and to change them. Someone told him his toy line would get passed quicker if he made the main hero look like the President of Mattel...so he did. He-Man's face is made in the likeness of Mattel's President! Never seen a picture of him online though.

Gygor is in MOTUC because of Emiliano, believe it or not. He owns a LOT of early Mattel and Filmation concept work. He pieced together everything he found on Gygor and sent it over to Toyguru. That's how the 80's Big Jim Ape mock-up of Gygor was shown after the MOTUC Gygor figure was announced. Additional Gygor concepts can be found in the Power & Honor Foundation's Volume 1 Catalog (like the heroic Gygor that He-Man rides).

Illumina can't be submitted to Mattel in the Create-A-Figure contest as Mattel already owns the rights to her. That would be like submitting Jitsu to them.

Mattel actually did not own the rights to Fearless Photog any longer, as copyrights and trademarks expire (like how they lost the rights to "Fisto" for 200X and "Flipshot" in MOTUC). A couple fans gave Toyguru, Nathan Bitner's contact information. He got a hold of Nathan and asked if he would like his character to be released after all this time. He explained that they didn't have the budget to pay him, but reminded him that he got the $100 000 scholarship in the 80's and Mattel paid for his family's vacation for winning the contest. Nathan agreed to sign documents with Mattel giving them full ownership over Fearless Photog. Toyguru said Nathan helped with the bio and he's getting a sample case of Fearless Photog figures.

Toyguru was looking for contact information for the creators of all the other runners up too (Netta, BrainWave, Eye Beam and Compactor). I'm not sure if he still is or not.

If you don't like Illumina, that's totally fine. Everyone doesn't have to like the same things. I'm totally cool with that. :)

With the Fan Vote, Toyguru specifically said this is to help get the obscure, fan desired characters. This is one slot and will not push back Spikor, Ram-Man, etc. He actually created a thread on He-Man.org titled "I voted for Illumina!" and explained he actually created the Fan Vote contest FOR Illumina. He said he's pitched her to his bosses a few times and they've turned him down saying she's too obscure. Toyguru said if she wins this, she gets made no problem.

The MOTUC line also needs characters like Illumina to keep going. Each year is supposed to be a mix of major A-listers (like Sorceress, Fisto and Kobra Kahn for 2012), obscure stuff and the C and D listers. This keeps MOTUC alive and running. If they made all the A-listers at once, the line would die and we would be missing a lot of characters like Blast Attack, Rio-Blast, Ninjor, etc.

I barely have any clue who Illumina is, but I'd still rather see her than several of the original-run MotU figures, many filmation figures, and all but a handful of PoP figures. But I'm one of those weirdos that likes new, obscure, and unusual characters in the MotUC line over many of the "classics."

Welcome to Illumina Day, 2014.

By the end of 2015, we will have every single MOTU and PoP figure from the 80's made in the Masters of the Universe Classics line, as well as the main New Adventures, 200X and Filmation characters.

Now is the time for Illumina. On December 15th, 2011, the very first "Illumina Day" was held and it got some great support throughout the web. One common theme though, was some people wanted "Ram Man" first or "X" other character before Illumina. All those requested figures people wanted before Illumina have now been made.

Also in 2011, Mattel gave He-Man.org and a few German fan sites the chance to get their top character choice a spot on the Fan Choice vote. Illumina won the He-Man.org fan vote and came in second place overall between the German fan sites (Geldor won their vote). Mattel chose the other 6 slots.

In 2012, the fan vote took place. For every 2013 MOTUC sub you purchased, you got a "ticket" you could vote with. Geldor came in first place, with Illumina a VERY close second. Toyguru announced she lost by a mere 20 votes! Geldor was released November, 2013.

In 2014, He-Man.org held a 2016 MOTUC Character Selection Playoffs. Every single character and variant from every single iteration of MOTU was on the voting list. This list included everything, including all German, Brazilian and UK comics, books, audio plays, etc. The list was exhaustive. Illumina lasted 10 weeks and ranked #13th in the 4th round (out of 5 rounds, only the top 10 moved on).

Fans have proven countless times how popular Illumina is and how they would love to see her in MOTUC. Please show your continued support for Illumina in MOTUC on "Illumina Day!" - December 15th, 2014 by posting fan art, cosplay, fanfic, poems, cakes, or anything else. Any and all support is appreciated. :D

December 1st, 2014 will be the day everyone wanting to participate in Illumina Day will change their avatars to an Illumina one, or Illumina-themed one (you could just colourize your current one blue and white like some people did in 2011).
