this is not an event folks. this is a ad for winter soldier #1 coming next year. the next event is kinda vague and i think involves nova who......also comes back from the dead. It involves the pheonix force and Cable comes back for some unexplained reason to off captain america.

Snowflakian 11-13-2011 09:23 AM

The next event is Phoenix and X-Men related. Nova hasn't come back from the dead yet. The point one nova is a different kid entirely.

With everything that was happening during "The Trial of Captain America" (great story btw) and everything up to that point, I think it made less sense to actually kill Bucky, which means that when he supposedly died in Fear itself, the impact was more of a "yeah right, they better find a way to bring him back that makes sense because his story was getting too good to give him a crap death like this.." than a, "good, he needed to die and he needs to stay dead..." feel.

Now that the U.S knows Bucky was the former Winter Soldier and Russia now has confirmation of his whereabouts and that he's alive, a scripted death was the only thing that made sense enough to allow him to operate covertly again. I'm perfectly fine with this. Plus they needed a reason for why he wouldn't spend the rest of his life in a U.S. prison for treason. Can't be in prison if he's supposedly dead.

Brubaker said he wants to make Bucky Marvel's main superspy, a cross between Sam Fisher and James Bond (though I'd like him to be more of a Jack Bauer, lol). I can't wait to see how he deals with all the sleeper Winter Soldier agents that he himself trained while he was a brainwashed Russian Assassin. Time to tie up loose ends.

Agree with you on all counts, when you put it like that... I just feel a little offput in the manner they scripted his death, and how quickly they brought him back.

I understand these big crossover events are supposed to have a shocking death here and there to keep people interested. I just felt offing Bucky like that so soon after he took on the mantle of Captain America lessened him somehow. And then to reveal it was all a trick so he could get his own series just left a bad taste in my mouth... If it were up to me, I would have had Bucky Cap had his own storyline that led up to him faking his death.

I can't help but find amusement in the fact that people are now upset that they killed off bucky, and now *want* him brought back. lol

Damn, I'm a Bucky fanboy and never realized! :P

But really, want is too strong a word... I just reckon he deserved a lot better, if it was going to happen to him at all.

hope fully his new ongoing is going to work out. are they cancelling either cap ongoings to do this? Neither of em are very good right now.

not me,I just want Doom to stomp the ff4.

Kaewin 11-14-2011 08:56 PM

They should have left him dead, at least for awhile. They could have dragged it out instead played their hand so soon. I might look at it when it is on the shelf but don't have high hopes.

I saw the point one and it is worth a skip.

I just read the issue explaining exactly what I figured- that Bucky was indeed beaten and stabbed by Sin but his pulse was still barely hanging on so Fury and Natasha had him medivaced to a secret base where they shot Bucky up with the world's last dose of Infinity Formula.
Fury's body makes it naturally for him (after so long taking it) but they did ot know if it would save Bucky's life or what...so they swapped an LMD (with matching wounds) and faked the Avengers and Steve out about his death.
They decided not to tell Steve because his head needed to be in the game during the whole Fear Itself thing and they did not know if Bucky would survive anyway- he did not pull through till days after it all ended.

Still, Steve was pissed enough to beat on ol' Nick some (Nick not fighting back) untill Bucky himself showed up to talk to Steve.

real good damn issue with solid art.

I can't wait for next year's same day releases for Marvel Digital. I can't wait to read this.
