Thats fine and all but if your that tight in the budget where you dont have 80bucks to spend in one shot then should you spend that money on a toy? Probably not.

Yes I know Do Boy, you have a great job, company car and company gas card....If your hesistant to spend $80 on a toy for your collection than maybe its just not that worthwhile.

Im not implying that anyone is poor or anything like that but IMO, if you have to put a toy on layaway then you probably shouldnt buy it. Layaway is good for items that are of high cost (appliances, furniture) and can be hard to obtain or sell quickly but for a piece of plastic as do boy puts it, I dont think it makes any sense.

This Walmart layaway is only for the holidays anyway, 10/17-12/16, and how many of us here will actually benefit from buying something from walmart thats more than $15 and totals to $50 that we'd have to buy from Walmart and couldnt buy outright?

I don't think it's a good idea to put a couple MU figures on layaway if one can't afford them right away. I understand X-Mas shopping and layaway, but as far a collectors go, buy it or don't. Plus you take the chance that an employee might see them and want them.

Omega. I think the point some people are trying to make is that you could possibly have 1million dollars after paying off all your bills but still only allow yourself 100$ toy fund per week. Giving the rest to your kids/wife/parents/girlfriend or whatever have you.

Layaway makes me angry, and I don't know why. Maybe its because I used to work for a store that offered it.

My job and pay has nothing to do with this. It just comes down to do I really feel like dropping almost $100 on something that is truly necessary all at once. If i could pay it off slowly maybe. But all at once on a non exclusive just seems like a lot to put down on something at wal-mart.

I don't know why someone would want to put something on layaway if they didn't have to, but I think I can make an educated guess.

Perhaps they don't have an adequate place to hide their children's X-Mas presents, so they intend to keep them on layaway until just before X-Mas.

...because you wanted to? I thought the question was pretty clear on that subject. Take away all the other reasons people have listed in this thread. What if you simply wanted to do it?

If I limited myself to $50 a week for toys/collectibles (regardless of my income or bills) and I find three toys I want that are each $35, then my self-imposed limit would only allow me to buy one. But with a layaway, I can put all three together and use that $50 as a partial payment. You should know as well as anyone, sometimes we collectors can go into a toy-buying frenzy and have buyers' remorse. So holding yourself to a set toy budget is a good way to mitigate that issue.

I know I will probably use this opportunity to get some early X-Mas shopping done. It's not that I can't afford to buy presents outright, but like CLASSIFIED said, I have limited space in which to hide my kids' X-Mas presents (or store the other presents to my family and friends), so keeping them at the store but insuring that I will have them come December works out great for me.

Layaway is simply an option to spread the cost of something out over time, thereby making it easier to incorporate into one's budget. And at the same time, you insure that you'll be getting the products you want, maybe even on sale by the end of it.
