Thanks man. I'll get to work soon. What sort of paint do you use? Just modeling paint? Thin brushes?

I typically use acrylic paints and water them down more, use multiple thin coats. Tamiya and model masters have some good metallic paints. Good luck.

Boba Fettuccini 10-14-2011 12:35 PM

Ah, well I do use POL. Right now it's full of clearanced IM2 comic series figures for customs.

Great place to get started. I wish they did a rescue iron woman suit. I need it to do a black widow iron suit to go with my iron avengers.

Boba Fettuccini 10-14-2011 01:20 PM

I want a Rescue so bad! I only read one issue about that at a bookstore while I was waiting for my sister, but it's a cool suit, and I love exo-suits and battle armor. Hopefully iM3 will get a comic series.

Jason Abbadon 10-14-2011 05:01 PM

Rescue's suit is all search and rescue- but she's got these magnegetic powers for moving debris that can (and has) pulled the armor right off a bad guy- in all directions!

scarecrow 10-14-2011 05:27 PM

Wow, that is AWESOME. I really loved the look of the Galactus Buster from MvC3 so to see it realized here is cool.

Jason Abbadon 10-14-2011 06:08 PM

What is the glowy chest piece from? Looks great.
A really great custom.

Symbiote 10-14-2011 06:12 PM

Its from star wars yoda figure. Does anyone know of a site that just sells the blast effects? That'd be awesome.

Jason Abbadon 10-14-2011 06:24 PM

I want to know too! I need crazy blast effects for my MY collection!

I was thinkin of heating the blast effects from iron man or somebody else and molding it while still hot to arrange that effect.

Instead of doing what you did for the head, I was going to craft the head spikes/horns or whatever from simple plastic from home depot or craft store and using a sander to get the right shape.

When the desired shape is reached, I would heat then bend to my liking. ( had that brain storm today.)

I might need some more advice on painting if it's not too much trouble.

Jason Abbadon 10-14-2011 10:52 PM

Use Styrene- it's the same plastic used for model kits and can be bought super cheap- buy "For Sale" sighns from any hardware store- you can layer the styrene with glue to make thicker pieces and it shapes nicely- sands great too.

teddyboy09 10-15-2011 12:02 AM

Sweet lord! I want one!

FancyPants 10-16-2011 12:55 AM

I've decided to use the Iron man 2 advanced armor figure as my base

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...ncedarmor.jpg/

I think this will look great after I get done with it. Going to get all my supplies to start work tomorrow

FancyPants 10-17-2011 01:32 AM

I went to the hobby shop today to pick up everything I need. The place isn't open on sundays. Very disappointing. Said right on the door "closed sundays to allow employees time with their families and to worship"

Boba Fettuccini 10-17-2011 03:42 AM

I appreciate businesses being closed on Sundays. i absolutely hate working Sundays. Sunday has always been an iportant family day, and I am a church-goer, and working saturday night til 1 AM makes that hard...

anyway, on-topic, the advanced armor figure is great. I ordered a couple from BBTS for custom fodder. I can't wait to see how it looks with a Galactus twist on it!

there's one next door too :(

I got everything I'm going to need today. Paint, molding, etc. Im using a do it yourself stencil kit to make the head components for his helmet. The styrene they had was clear and wouldn't hold paint very well. I also got the painters tape so I can color outside the lines if my shaky hands slip. With the sales and all, it was 17.00 for the lot. I will start tonight after I get back from the gym. I'm really excited about this whole thing.

Question: Can I just take off ironmans head to perform the construction? I've seen a lot of custom jobs you guys do. I'm assuming the heads just pop off.

FancyPants 10-18-2011 12:30 AM

Ok, got started tonight. I can only do a little work at a time. I refuse to try to paint with my baby running around throwing shit at me.

I took a few pics and will post them in the morning :)

The head will be difficult

Boba Fettuccini 10-18-2011 01:54 AM

The head just pops off, and many of the limbs will too with a minute or two under a blowdryer. What are you using for modeling?

I got some apoxy molding for the helmet attachment and i'm using a blank stencil for the helmet blades or whatever they're called. I'll fold it over a couple times and glue it.

My paint scheme looks good so far. Only could work for about 30min but I figured out what I want to do. Really happy so far with the work.

FancyPants 10-18-2011 02:21 AM

Listed starting pics. I will only post more eventful progress as the days go on.

Wish me luck on my first custom guys :)

flipwilson 10-18-2011 01:54 PM

I saw one tutorial to make electric/blast effects with the plastic packaging from the toys themselves. Coated with a clear 2 part epoxy and painted with translucent paint. I wish I could find the site, but that's pretty much a long in the short of it.

It might take me a month to finish. The paint drys fast with the light bulb I use.
