[QUOTE=IhsantheCursed;199729]Get the lock or toss the figures. Imo that stuff can really scare, and scar, a child's mind.[/QUOTE/]
Yeah...I don't think I'm gonna toss out figures that are worth about 500 bucks altogether. So I'll just get a new lock. Do you have kids IhsantheCursed? Because you act like you do.... |

I raised my little sister (you may say I still am) so I try do what I think any guy with integrity would do in order to protect her from the shitheads that inhabit this world. That said, when she asks me questions, I answer them as honestly as possible because she is not just family, she is very intelligent, and I don't want to sugar coat things when we talk. She is also free to watch scary movies and often asks about my crazy action figure collection, to which I do my best to explain what the characters and subjects represent. I guess it all boils down to being honest, explaining that some stories and characters represent the good and bad that we face in everyday life, and hope that they will understand.

This might be the most ridiculous thread on the forum right now with how far this has all gone. Kind of pointless to argue with someone who has a one sided point of view thechris and rexlewis.

It's also extremely important to note, that just like adults, different children (at *any* age) will have different phobias, and different levels of sensitivity.
Something that scares one child absolutely shitless, will have no effect on the next. Therefor, what will "scar them for life" is completely subjective. I was a teenager when Jurassic Park came out. But I've been so enthralled by dinosaurs my whole life, even as a small child... five or six, JP would have been the most awesome thing for me, ever. I also was facinated by the movie ALIENS, when I was little. That movie didn't scare me one bit. But Chewbacca in Star Wars scared the piss out of me so badly, my parents had to take me out of the theater (Or so they tell me. I was too young to rememver when Jedi came out. But maybe this is why I hate Star Wars, lol!). Stephen King's It also scared me so badly that for a few years I was afraid of killer clowns coming up out of the bathtub drain. Point being, what scared me and what didn't is not appliable to another child. Another child may be terrified that raptors are gonna break down the door and eat them, while at the same time laughing at me for something so rediculous as a clown coming out of the bathdrain. It's all subjective, and only those who actually know a certain child can make a judgement over what he or she can handle, and what will scar them for life. |
peronally... IMO this thread sucks and is getting depressing, this needs to stop! Calling in the MOD Squad!

Yeah I'm done with this thread now, I pretty much said what I had to say, now i'm done. I don't know how the thread went on as long as it did... with all the touchy subject matter and what have you.

I've never flown a plane but if I'm in one I know it's bad for the pilot to crash. I'm not a doctor but It's probably as bad idea to drink paint thinner. I'm not a cop but when I saw someone breaking into my friends car I was smart enough to ask them to stop. Heck, in an example from my home state I'm not a gun dealer but I know its a bad idea to hand an 8 year old an Uzi. In that case there were people who said "I think thats a bad idea" Want to guess what the reply was? Yes, sometimes without going through it you can know. |
to add my personal tow cents to this, i grew up in the eighties and have seen a lot change over the years, in my household we went to church and were raised to believe everyone is equal and that the choices one makes in life determines the kind of person they are. Sadly in my eyes these things are not taught today, when you see a child throwing a fit and the parent to scared to yell at them or heaven forbid spank them for their outlandish behavior is wrong. Today it's all about letting your kids express themselves and be who they want..i call bull on that, they need discipline in their lives and structure, something a lot of parents are sadly to busy to give. I do see a lot wrong in the world today but know that all i can do is try to raise my kids the best i can and try to instill in them morals and values that will help them become good men not hate mongers..again just my two cents

*sigh* can we get this shut down?? Or moved somewhere off the sidebar, its got no place being there clogging up a spot instead of toy talk,it has no revelance to toys, its on the verge of becoming blown out of preportion, and sooner or later some-one will say something they shouldnt and end up getting an infraction or banned.

You open up a thread that seems ment to fuel some passionate debates, and then keep posting how you disagree with everything but refuse to say so. Basically, the entire thread is borderline flamebait/trolling. Again, I'm not accusing your intent to be a troll or a flamebait thread. Just that the subject matter is eighty to ninty percent there already. As soon as I saw the thread title, I honestly thought it would have been locked already. |

I'm not accusing you of trolling or flaming, nor anyone else in the thread. I'm quite impressed it hasn't decended into such, to be honest. What I am saying is the thread *is* borderline to that, and borderline political and religious, despite it's intents. It's the subject matter itself that makes it so. Especially when you don't have children yourself, and then make a fairly hardcore stand on what's destroying our children. Many have stated they don't feel this is an appropriate topic for a toy/comicbook/geek site. Quote:

Well this is the "General Discussion" area of a "Toy/Geek site" so I felt as long as it didnt violate any of the rules of the forum I was okay to post it...thats as far as my line of reasoning went. I do not feel the need to justify myself further in this reguard as , again, no rules have been broken to my knowledge. I love how not many think this thread was a good idea, yet many have posted here stating their views.
ANYWAY....as this thread has gotten so much off-topic, and many are dissatisfied with the turn this thread has taken prehaps a closure is the best way to go. EDIT: And no Crazy, I did not in anyway forsee ppl attempting to egg-me into stating my religious views when creating this thread. |
