Also, I made it through that entire video, but I think it'll be a few minutes before my heart rate returns to normal. |
For me I'm one of those you let them loose out of the package, but hey its personal preference on what they want to do. Because either way you look at it, its a collection.
|
It's a tough call. I think for me it depends on the packaging and how it's possibly displayed. I'm mostly an open and display kinda guy, but I do have a few figures stilled sealed. I also think if you have anything older, like G1, or anything original, it's best to keep it sealed. The newer stuff is fine to open. But again it depends on the packaging and how it's displayed. One of my sealed figures is SDCC Soundwave, just because how awesome it is.

Toys are meant to be opened! :) That's my personal philosophy.
There are some exceptions though. I have SDCC TF Prime Optimus Prime MISB for a couple reasons. Although a huge display of MISB toys of any kind usually look awesome. |
Most of mine are opened. Even my GI Joe army builders are opened. I have a few that I keep on card and extras such as the variants that I won't open. I am pretty much out of space so I usually keep my favorite figures displayed and the rest go into storage bins.

OPEN!!!!! they were meant to be enjoyed IMO *with the rare exception.
Generally there are two types of collectors..investors..and passionate. |
this thread definitely needs a poll

No offense to MOC Collectors at all.
If I wanted to keep some of these things in box, I could just go to the store and look at them on the shelves. That's just for some things though. Whatever floats your boat. Collectors are collectors. |

Still, you're not going to be able to find everything at the store on the shelves in the box. ;) |
I find that if I collect too many loose figures to display I just become overwhelmed with stuff to clean/explain. That, and after a while having to sort them around just gets weird.
|
I got a small MOC collection going [Gi Joe Star Brigade]. It is things like that I like keeping MOC. MU and DC, RIP THEM BITCHES OPEN.

Yea if ur collecting and u wanna make a profit in the future then by all means keep ur figures in package n locked up I even suggest gettin those covers for the package I think in the package displayed is cool but I think it takes up to much space and I kinda get the itch to open them there is nothin like the smell of the figure when u first open them its just a good feeling the rarer the more I wanna open it LOL

I open 99% of my figures, they're just too damn fun to pose! The ones I do keep in package are usually ones in prime condition. I have a Star Wars VC Bastila Shan MOC with the peg hole still filled. Something in that pristine condition shouldn't be opened imo... I also have Compound Hulk on card, but that's only because I don't care about the figure itself, I just wanted it for future rarity. It's also very pretty to look at in package, love it.

I've been passing on those predators but that picture just made me change my mind

I open about 95% of my stuff, the exceptions mainly are sdcc/mail away figures and those super rare items, like the last wave of IM I opened ultimate iron man, comic whiplash and warmachine but couldn't get myself to open mandarin, incase of tough times I know I can sell him online for 4 times what I paid for it, I have a few things moc coming my way blade and shocker and they'll stay that way for a while until the urge either becomes to great or something else. I really need a bigger place to display the figures and grow the collection.

Nobody ever puts MOC figures on the ceiling

I've been busy redoing my toy closet and this thread got me thinking. I'm split between the two. I like to display MOC stuff with great artwork and I have a backlog of items I'm saving for my kids to open if they ever get into Star Wars / Marvel / Joes/ Transformers / MOTU, et al. MOC takes up a lot of room and I had to open a few items just to get me more room. It is always satisfying to open, play with, and display toys. I'm a fan of both and sometimes I save a little extra and get multiples. One to open and display and one to keep in the backlog. BTW - great collection pics everyone!!!

Out of the package and played with!! I'm like, why buy something and NOT play with it!!

Man, if I opened all of my toys I'd have to rip down my peg board and buy tons of shelves! There'd be no room to display everything. The can hang pretty far out on the pegs. I know they are toys and meant to be played with but honestly I don't think I'd have time to play with them. I had enough fun in the 80's and early 90's playing with my toys but still enjoy collecting them the same :) I'm also confused on the reasoning behind keeping or opening "rare" figures if you (in general, not anyone specific) are all about playing with/posing or displaying them. It seems like there's a double standard there. Aside from the fact that it looks "cool" in that package, which most of us MOC collectors could argue |

don't really think we need a poll. There only like 4 of us that are real MOC collectors :)
