not too shabby, dude. i think the only things it really needs is that core shadow on the fruit as well as the highlight from where the light source is being reflected on.

kinda like here:
http://www.stanprokopenko.com/blog/i...t_elements.jpg
C being the core shadow right after where it's getting hit by direct light (B) but also getting the reflection of light from the table (D). just need to use an eraser to pinpoint the highlights (A).

JustryGT 03-02-2012 11:20 PM

Things you see on a pirate ship?

Nice shading. Some more dark edges near the shadows would be nice.

DogFashionDisco 03-04-2012 02:49 PM

Thanks guys.

Here is my current Rogues Gallery.

I just wanted to share some of my Batman things, though this time around it is the recent LEGO stuff. It took me a while to cave and open up the Funhouse set, but I'd say it was worth it. Some of the stickers and "traps" are pretty sketchy, but otherwise it is a nice set. I'm thinking about doing a review, but right now I'm kind of preoccupied with college stuff. There are several other things scattered around my display, including some of the new sets and a bit more. I wish my camera was being more cooperative, but that isn't always the case. Anyway, enjoy!

Wish I could draw. Damn man, talent.

thechris 03-26-2012 01:37 AM

Cool man, I swear that Funhouse Playset was straight out of the final battle against Harley on the DC Universe Online game with the twin stairs leading to her on each side complete with all red Tim Drake.

thechris 03-26-2012 01:52 AM

Also, I'd love to get a set of Universal Monsters. The ones I've seen online usually only partially look like the actors. Usually Frankenstein's Monster looks like Boris, but Dracula doesn't look like Bela Lugosi at all. Wolfman is usually questionable in terms of looking like Lon Chaney Jr. Mummy looks close to Boris Karloff. Where'd you get yours? That Dracula looks spot on, man.

I need to check that game out when I have more free time.

I bought them individually a few years back online. No original boxes but they're amazing. Unfortunately, Dracula is the rarest one of the three. I've always wanted a Creature from the Black Lagoon but can't find one for less than $200. There is an antique mall not too far from me that is selling the same Bela Lugosi Dracula, but I think it was the color or black/white version. I remember it being marked "$100 firm". I've got a great Masque of the Red Death figure too, but I haven't taken him out of the box. It once was my holy grail, so I keep it MOC.

I was working on another drawing earlier, figured I'd share the progress before I head to class.

Wicked drawing man! Looks excellent! Love to see it when it's done!

NoodleChow 04-18-2012 07:10 PM

kickass drawing, DFD. is it for class or for funzies?

DogFashionDisco 04-18-2012 07:26 PM

Thanks fellas! Its for a class, but I'm taking a lot of liberties with it. I had to recreate a piece from an Art Museum, and this one stood out to me. Its the god Apollo skinning a guy who lost a music competition with him. I really like cemetery angels, so I'm making Apollo resemble one in order to convey his disconnection from humanity. I'll post the final product when I get around to finishing it, which might be a while because I have to work on other stuff.

I finished up the Apollo drawing today before class, here you go:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17857818/DSCI1278%20(2).JPG

The drawing is boxed off because I plan to cut it to size and put it with a book of drawings I've been doing for the last say, 10 years or so. It's cool to flip through them and see what I was interested in at the time.

Very nice .. Thanks for sharing

DogFashionDisco 04-23-2012 09:30 PM

Thanks man. I wish taking a picture of a drawing was easier to do, as I noticed it lost quite a bit of detail in between. I love drawing, it gives me an opportunity to pick a subject and improvise as much detail as I can. I did something I haven't done in a while, and added a "C" for my name. Not so subtle, but still effective.

Tiberius 04-26-2012 09:48 PM

If I could draw like that, I would be drawing a lot of naked ladies...

a lot...

DogFashionDisco 04-26-2012 09:59 PM

I see what you mean, but going into my line of work (teaching art) that would probably (it is) too controversial. I may be a mad man, but I have to follow certain rules in order to have a positive influence on youth. That said, I have considered drawing more comic characters (sort of off subject), both for personal interest and because I can lead by example in order for my students to tackle challenging goals without going beyond my professional obligations. Being a prospective artist and educator is a challenging balance.

Some of the greatest art where of nude people. But I see where you are coming from. We live in a different world these days.

BigHanksCustoms 04-26-2012 10:22 PM

Very impressive drawing skills me man! Ironically, last year I picked a pencil up and doodled for the first time in probably 20 years, and it totally showed, lol!

I used to be pretty good at comic style art but I'm lame now and lack the discipline to pursue it further, you can see my style is dated "Byrne-ish" era. Of course 20 years ago it wasn't dated, lol.....

And back on the topic of your collection, I love that Killer Croc in your rogues gallery! He's awesome!

DogFashionDisco 04-26-2012 10:42 PM

You are dead on the money. A majority of artwork for a great deal of time was influenced by the exposure of skin and a certain level of provocativeness, but that isn't my goal as an artist/instructor because I have seen how screwed up the perspective of today's youth have become. At one point the only naked images that people saw were paintings of chubby women and buff dudes, but that was part of the natural progression of art. I will say that I get the vibe that you've taken an art class or three, and maybe you should look into taking more because you're clearly interested in the subject.

Thank you sir, apparently I have found my own identity as an artist (whatever that means) but I like to continually develop my skills because it helps me and anyone I work with down the road. As far as your comment, the whole comic art style is pretty straight forward, but it doesn't excel until someone tries to push the envelope with it, so keep adding detail. I hope that makes sense.

One of my best friends had a natural talent at drawing. His 5 min doodles where masterpieces! What I love about art in general is bringing something to life. Action figures [to me] are memories first, art second, toys last.

Recently I have been getting into Anime, and as little as I like the character designs, a lot of the visuals are amazing. Reminds me how much I loved Lord of the Rings..

DogFashionDisco 04-27-2012 10:46 AM

I missed that comment about Killer Croc, sorry BHC. I sold him a while back because he took up too much shelf space, but at least now he is apart of a different collection now.

DogFashionDisco 05-25-2012 11:54 PM

I mixed around my Rogues Gallery/DCUC/DCD and here you go:

I love this shelf.
