That could easily be explained away that he was wearing special effects make-up to make himself look like a regular human, or some sort of holoinducer like they occasionally use in the comics whenever the writers remembers the X-Men have access to that kind of tech.

(I'm just happy that First Class acknowledged that Beast's blue furry appearance *isn't* his mutation, but a science experament gone wrong)

Actually, the early 60's (the Cuban Missile Crisis was in 1962). But I agree with your overall point about Jean's recruitment.
Thanks. For some reason I thought it was '59. At the very least, a part of it *was* set in the fifties, though! ;)

i think other marvel are getting less attention now for example ghostrider 2 , i seem less intrested in , as well as spiderman 4 (reboot) just due to the fact of the Avengers coming out soon and really excited and cant wait to see it becuase it's something i would love to see but ghost rider and spidey is out the window for me atm although i would possibly watch spidey 4 after ghostrider2. X-men film series was rushed! i.e not well thought out ... X-men first class okay and wolverine. But the triliogy was a dissapointing really just too much focus on jean really ... and wolverine ( i felt was basically the main character) and the others not much apperance as it should of been i.e more of cyclops , storm .X2 nightclawer ( the new guy) and an cameo of colossus then jeans death... X3 charles death ( i thought unnessciary ) cyclops didnt get even a 10 mintue scene. angel new character then doesnt help in final battle , and then after seeing the film i thought where the hell is nightclawer ??? So i think that fox could do way much better. Like paramount are doing with avengers film series basically ironman great film unexpected cameo of nick fury !! , then hulk unexpected cameo of tony stark , then ironman 2 cameo of blackwidow and WARMACHINE ( soz my fav) , thors hammer, thor , cameo of hawkeye, leading to cosmic cube... <<< back in time <<< captain america with short trailer of the avengers i think these films where all good and i actually wasnt dissapointed in them

The way I see it with the Marvel movies, is they always put out 1 or 2 mediocre ones and than there's your 1 or 2 hit every year...It's like a pattern if you see how they release the movies...
Like this year it's Ghost Rider and Amazing Spider-Man and than Avenger's.

As for Xavier being able to walk at the end of XMO:W, that is easily explained by Xavier tricking them with an illusion. It would be similar to the trick he pulled on the Russian guard when they were hiding in the back of that truck in XMFC.

Actually, the early 60's (the Cuban Missile Crisis was in 1962). But I agree with your overall point about Jean's recruitment.

I tend to ignore the X2 cameo, as it was just a throwaway cameo anyway that was never planned to be expanded on. You can rationalize it as some form of image inducer test, or similiar like usage since X3 makes it seem like Beast has been furred for a long time too, but also in politics for a long time. Which would suggest the X2 cameo was his way of public speaking without outting himself as a mutant just yet whereas X3 is a point in time where he needs to be a vocal in the open mutant to help Mutants.

XFC is 40s-60s. I'm saying later movies could be late 60s and early to mid 70s. We already know this second one, if ideas haven't changed yet, is going to lean heavily on JFK's assassination or the MLK assasination(62 or 68), but the third one is completely open on dates as yet(this one potentially being where cyclops and Jean would be added to the school, so preferably before and after the 3 mile island incident in 79 for best usages, so 70s-early 80s would seem to be the needed decades there). Plus who knows how many years the story may cover itself like how XFC covered a couple decades. The other problem is in the ages suggested in the present day X-Men movies. Scott and Jean come across as mid 30s, maybe late 20s. So adding them to the cast too early, would date the later films as too early, when they need to be 2000-2020 somewhere.

If they go forward with the X-Men movies instead of filling in backstory, they should do Sinister and Apocalypse next as a back to back film, potentially alluded to and setup by the prequel movies somewhere. Then they can go into 6 with Onslaught from the strain of Xavier not having a body/possessing apoc's body or some such story device that could work.

Sinister for 4, paving the way for apocalypse but also opening the door for a farewell from Scott and Jean, or a new way to bring them 'back' so to speak(clones or he abducted Scott before Jean atomized him, since it was never shown on screen).

Apocalypse is a story I hope they do in the 'present day' films though. It'd make too much sense with how Jean's level 5 powers could have woke him up, or Xavier's now no bodied form could cause him to wake up, etc. Onslaught is also a story they have setup with Xavier not having a body now, so I'd like to see that explored too.

The movies actually made by Marvel kick ass- Iron Man, Thor and Cap- everything else is liscenced t other studios and they get the last call on content- which is why Ramu and Toby quit Spider Man- the studios wanted four villians in spidey 4...might as well make it a dozen. Who needs a plot, right?

HERE'S your Emma Frost!!! I mean look at this pic, and look at the 10-year-old boy who played her in the movie. smh. (ok so I'm getting a bit carried away, but regardless, I make no apologies.)

Ha ha...

AndyCR75 01-31-2012 05:46 PM

@Exo...sorry I thought Psylocke was caucasian. But Rogue oh heck yes. not that vampire chick. shes cute, but not what we know Rogue to be in the books. Anyway my point it, if we are going to have Jackman, Hemsworth and Evans juice to bulk up for their roles...why not have female characters with "similar" comic builds.

Jess Alba was the only thing that has come close... Johansson as well. Jennifer Garner= Elektra? FAIL. And the list goes on.

Nope, I don't feel ya.
I'd rather have professional actresses play major roles over eyecandy bikini models who have zero experience.
It's hard enough finding supossedly professional actresses who can act, but at least they try.

Besides, that chick is nowhere near as pretty as the woman who played Frost.

Jason Abbadon 02-01-2012 09:50 AM

The woman that played Frost was a low point to the movie though- very cardboard performance- but at least it was a small role!
Really, looking back, all the villians besides Shaw were just cut outs- we learn zip about any of them- there's just no way to develop so many characters in a two hour movie and still have time for plot.

Just as well, really- Riptide never had a comics personality and the less said about Azazel the better.

'Crazy' ain't in my name for nothin'.

But seriously. Nothing can hurt worse than a poor performance. The chick who played Silk Spectre nearly killed Watchmen for me. DotM was so much better for dumping Megan Fox. (And the twins. Though it still wasn't a good movie, at least it was better)
And second only to Doom, Jessica Alba was the worst casting choice in Fantastic Four.

A local reviewer said of Alba "Hollywood's small gain was Porn's major loss" and I completely agree- she acts worse than a porn actress, but her eye candy sells tickets.
Her performance in (the awful) Sin City was laughably bad- taking a D movie down to F-

As long as I see more of Magneto's badassary I'm good.

bmorr 02-05-2012 08:17 PM

im hoping the sequel will delve into the 'nam era. any good or memorable xmen stories from that time period without overlapping with the wolverine stuff?

Tiberius 02-05-2012 08:20 PM

I am extremely curious as to what characters they would use. I would like to see a REAL First Class roster. I would like to see a Wolverine reboot though. Done right this time around...

Crazy Jetty 02-05-2012 09:01 PM

Personally, I feel they need to tighten up the cast, and go back to characters/actors carrying over, than the throwaway casts started in X3.
I know there are a *lot* of X-Men, and everyone wants to see their favorites, but a tight core cast of generally popular characters, with two or so *guest star" x-men I think is a good formula.
Let the villain's team be more fluid. (As bad guys get killed/arrested, it's more logical that Magneto/Whomever would go through them like candy)

Sadly, the most popular charcaters are already in use, many years after this movie will be set. Assuming they're still playing with the pretense that these movies will tie into X-Men 1 and 2, then let's see Beast and Havok carry forward. They're the most logical. I think Banshee carries potential, as well.
Since Mystique and Angel left, we need another girl. With Havok on (And potentially leading the team), then Lorna Dane makes a lot of sense. It would be interesting to explore her magnetic powers, verses Magneto's.
Also, other fairly logical choices would/could be Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch (Playing simular role to Rogue, or Kitty in the first three, as the very young rookies).
If you dump the convoluted mess that adhearing to his origin as a timetraveller, and make Bishop a contemporary mutant (I think he's a great character, and explaining him as a time traveller would be too much for a movie), he would be a good choice.
There's also Sage. It seems like the Hellfire Club has been taken down, perhaps she'll be able to drop her Black Queen persona.
Sunfire is another possibility.

Then, following the theme of "The First Class," and opening the door as a full on school for mutants, the next film could easily be "X-Men: The New Mutants," and bringing in a bunch of the NM characters as pupils of Xavier, and Moira (While Havok leads the actual X-Men).

For the 'Nam question, I don't know of any vietnam war X-Men stories off hand. But they could easily set Forge in that setting. Banshee is of the age that I believe he'd get drafted. They could easily make a story out of that.
