Either way, it's Mattel. You never can tell what they may do. They seem to get easily distracted by shiny objects.

Even without being announced, I'd be confident that Batman, Superman, Flash, and Wonderwoman would get made. Wonderwoman would probably be one of the last.
Green Lantern, Mattel may be starting to back away from for a while, after the movie glut (And with new atention on Batman). Also, his costume is relatively the same. And there's only so many times you can release the exact same toy.
Aquaman is starting to get into unpopular territory, and Cyborg is one of those C-Listers they say they're going to start to shy away from.
I'm not nessisarily big on "sets," but the New 52 doesn't do much for me without an entire set.

No disrespect intended but how is Aquaman becoming unpopular? Just curious.

He's not becoming unpopular. He's always been fairly unpopular.
Hence, when we start getting to Aquaman, then we're starting to get into the unpopular crowd. Which would be simular to c or d list characetrs, like cyborg.
But Aquaman has always been not terribly popular. Hell, it's only just recently that people have started to take him seriously. And it's only recently that they've started writing decently for him.

Getting away from the Aquaman discussion how the hell can Mattel think that Poison ivy is more obscure than Kingdom come red robin? I thought that the sub was for obscure characters not a-list bat villians. Does anyone else think this is screwed up?

Poison Ivy also unfortunately has the curse of being a girl, who's not Catwoman or Barbara Gordon.
I agree she's not as obscure as Red Robin. But Red Robin is probably the Jason Todd version, which is set in the mainstream, and not as obscure as Kingdom Come.

Exactly.

To reiterate, Aquaman was so unpopular that Geoff Johns had to write about how unpopular he was in an attempt to make him popular.

I have a suspicion (that Mattel will of course never admit to) that Poison Ivy was going to be in a main retail line. . .DCAS or Batman Legacy, either one. But the subscription numbers were so low that they pulled her from the main line and put her in the sub as extra bait. As best as I remember, when the sub was first announced, we were only promised Starman, Jay Garrick, Atrocitus, and whoever won the poll for the oversize figure. Either near the end of the sign-up time the first time, or after they re-opened the subscription, did we find out Ivy was in the sub.

If that is true than fuck Mattel. I get that they aren't doing well with their DCUC figures in retail, but I'm just not willing to sign up for a service like that. I'm just going to try and find an International seller who found a few that "fell off a truck".

I'm confused about your Superman comment though. What do you mean the buck is way too big for a younger Superman? Are you referring to the one in action comics (who is very much a kid) or the one from Justice League who is much older?

I think the buck is still too big for the "5 years later" Superman. He's still younger in the present-day comics than he was pre-Flashpoint. I would have preferred a slimmer buck, like the Flash, for example.

Or maybe it's that his head is too small. I think it's both, actually.

As for the Flash, I know the lines are accurate, but that's only when he's running.

You're right. It's a combination of both the more I look at him. I think Supes should be bigger than every other member of the JL personally, but this sculpt actually has the Dwight Howard shoulders that just make the rest of him seem disproportionate

This is very true as is pointed out in the sketchbook below:

Quote:

Electric Seams- When running at super speed, the black seams of The Flash's costume light up and pulse with Electricity. When standing still or walking, the seams remain as black linear detail and do not light up.

Not a problem for me, since I never plan to pose him anyway other than an action pose. Makes me wonder if there's gonna be a variant without the lines also?

Edit: judging by the first pic reveals of Flash, I would say there may be two versions being released. The first reveal pics did not have the electric seams lit up

I like Aquaman enough that I included him in my Teen Titans Mentors shelf as he appears on the show Young Justice with a beard and I also have him in my JLI Collection. I like him but yeah he is not near as popular as the other main members. To be honest My now bearded Aquaman looks like Tom Cruise.

I still feel like the majority of kids today know just as much about poison ivy as they do Catwoman. Guess i will have to hit up ebay when this figure launches....sigh.

I hope the allstar line gives us a rerelease of the red tornado

Prowl 2009 02-27-2012 03:48 PM
