Dude I'm with you on Iron Fist and Nova, these are two of my favorite characters, and while this isn't Richie I'm happy I at least get a Nova Corps member in this show!

As for the revealed identity, I can understand if you don't like it, I hated that Batman revealed his identity to GL after only 5 issues into New 52 JL, that was LAME.

However, if your basing the revelation of his identity just on this clip, I think it's out of context. It looks like he did that after running an obstacle course that he was going through. which means he was already introduced, or summoned by nick fury prior to that clip.

Which makes sense because in the actual Ultimate Spiderman comic series, Nick Fury already new Peter Parker was Spiderman. Here's the actual quote:

Peter: "What are you doing in my high school? How do you know who I am?

Fury: "Peter, there's not much in this world I do not know.

Peter: "How do- you- know...?!"

Fury: "Agent Bradley, how do we know about Peter exactly?"

Bradley: "Um, let's see, a bunch of ways. The Osborn Industries security tape, Otto Octavious' hypnosis transcripts, the Latverian assault at the U.N. ..."

Peter: "Oh, man..."

So there you have it. It wasn't something he ever consented to, in the comic at least. But here, I'm willing to bet that Fury was only giving Peter "A shot" at working with Shield. He's a tough guy to convince you're worth it, with or without powers. If he thinks someone's a liability, they're gone. In the comics, he couldn't touch Peter because he was a Minor, but once he turned 18 he basically said "You belong to me".

Also, this appears to not tie into the Avengers EMH universe. Which is a shame. I liked that in the 90's series there was the awesome tie in to the 90's X-men cartoon!

I didn't say it was the end all Spidey show just that it looks like it has potential. There's plenty I don't like (dumbass motorcycle) but imo the good outways the bad.

You want my real opinion they should have never canceled Spectacular Spider-Man but I'm guessing it was Disney's call and they decided on this.

I know it's not fair to judge a series by the trailer alone, but the trailer is meant to make you want to watch the upcoming series, and for me it's just made me concerned...

Fair enough, this is a respectful opinion that I continue to hear from many concerned fans.

First, what I liked. I can handle the surreal humour, like the cutaways and the toaster gag etc, and the animation looks great. They have Spider-man's attiude right, but that's all I can think of that looks good to me.
You know, I agree with you completely on this (with the exception of it being all that looks good to me). One of my favorite moments in the actual Ultimate Spider-Man comics was when he stood up in front of Kingpin and told him "You're soo Fat..." jokes. Completey nailed that type of humor based on what I see and hear in this trailer...

but the cutaways remind me more of Deadpool or even more like JD from Scrubs than anything I can pull from comics. And yet, somehow, it still seems to fit Spider-man and the tone of this cartoon. Interesting.

It seems obvious that Disney feel the need to have Spider-man jump on the Avengers Bandwagon, hence the inclusion of Nick Fury, Iron Man and Captain America in the trailer. It was nice to see Spider-man wear the Iron Spider costume, but it made him more like an Iron Man clone., flying around shooting repulser blasts. The script seems diabolical... 'J Jonah Loud-mouth' ... What happened to his more creative insults and put downs? Like 'picklepuss' and 'flat-head'.
I suppose from the perspective of looking at all the recent Avengers publicity leading up to the movie and new season of EMH I can see how you could draw that conclusion.

The inclusion of Nick Fury was a staple in the actual Ultimate comics. The Ultimates had great run in's with Spidey in his comics, so why not here?

Interestingly, unless someone can show me otherwise, I've read just about every Ultimate Spidey comic from beginning to current Miles Morales, with maybe a few exceptions in between, and I don't recall the Iron Spider suit ever being in them.

All that tells me is that this cartoon is not entirely based upon the comic series and is wisely pulling from Marvel's vast repertoire of Spidey lore and other popular characters like Iron Fist and Nova. I'm all for it!

Quote:

And it's Ultimate this and ultimate that.. Like they need to remind us what we're watching.
Of course, it's a trailer. You need to know that you're not watching: Amazing, Unlimited or Spectacular, lol. To be fair, in the actual cartoon clip, Fury said Ultimate and Peter Joked, "How ultimate is 'ultimate'" which does fit the character. :Spidey

Quote:

'Shield train' spider-man? Cap and Iron Man didn't need any Shield training! I'm not a fan of Peter Parker's voice either.. I can't put my finger on it. I'm not sure if it's because I'm used to the previous voice actors, but this guy sounds like he's trying too hard.
Peter always needed some sort of guidance. He's a kid. He's always also looked up to Men of Power. Even Tony in regular continuity was kind of a father figure personality at times when trying to explain the ways of the political world to Peter. So this seems fitting given his age. Peter make's many mistakes, just being a kid.

Quote:

But the most ridiculous thing I find annoying, why oh why would Spider-man ever need a motorcycle?! It's one thing to make up this crap for toys so kids can buy them, but to include them in the show? Spectacular never needed that stuff as the characters and story arcs were engaging enough to entertain and keep the watcher interested. All these gadgets and different costumes just scream 'merchendise' at me, which cheapens the feel of the show.
Dude...I thought the exact same thing, lol. Everytime I see the Spiderman toy section and see Spidey Helicopters and such I always think to myself, "My spidey belongs swinging on Webs!"

But you know what, Web swinging has it's limitations. And as such, Spidey through the years has been in Quinjets, boats, Space Shuttles and various vehicles to get to places web slinging couldn't take him...even if most of these vehicles he was being a spider stow-away.

Here's how my inner me who really wants to enjoy this show because I love Spidey is justifying it at the moment, lol:

1. Peter is 15, motorcycles are cool enough, let alone those with S.H.I.E.L.D tech! Why wouldn't he want one?
2. Peter, while smart, doesn't have unlimited resources to build things he may be capable of, upgrades are always sweet...did we mention they're free with joining shield?
3. Web Fluid is expensive and Peter has been prone to running out quite often. I'd imagine Motorcycle is a convenient alternative (and probably lasts one episode, lol)
4. Seriously, I don't care how old you are...who DOESN'T want a SHIELD issued Motorcycle?

I loved Spectacular, even from the first trailer that they released for it. I will probably still watch this, to give it the benifit of the doubt.
The only thing I didn't like about Spectacular, as awesome as the show was, was the animation. I hated the way they drew villains and people in particular. Much the way I hated how the Animation was in Wolverine and the X-men. So far I love the animation style of USM, I just hope the stories are good too. Guess we'll all find out soon.

Thanks :) I can't believe I missed the relation to the Deadpool humour with the cutaways. Since Spider-man has a sense of humour I can see it working as well, similar to the Teen Titans cartoon. Yeah I remember the Kingpin encounter, it was really well written.

I guess my main problem is I keep forgetting that this primarily taking influence from the Ultimate Comics. However from what I remember though Nick Fury was a major player in the series, he never actually trained Spider-man, nor gave him equipment to help him. Instead he said that as soon as Peter turn 18, he is property of shield. In the meantime he let Peter learn by himself and make mistakes from which he could develop. It was about coming to terms with the abilities he had gained and developing those to the best they could be (similar to how Professor X trains the X-Men).

That may be where my confusion comes in. Obviously they can't make a cartoon that copies one series of Spider-man comics, that would be silly. I'm all for taking influence from multiple sources, but the inclusion of the Iron Spider-man suit it just appears to be shoehorned in. It also feels like it's taking influence from the toy aisle as well, hence the costume changes and gadgets etc. Again, this is just going by the trailer, the episodes it all features in may tell a different story and my concerns will be quashed.

While I agree web slinging has it's limitations, I can't see how a motorcycle (with web shooting capabilities) can replace it. I mean, he wouldn't use a motorcycle to chase bad guys down a street, he'd web swing. His web fluid is pretty versatile, we've seen what it can do over the years. Plus I'd imagine his dependancy on such a gadget will only make it difficult for him once it's been inevitably broken or destroyed. I guess it comes down to the feeling i'm getting with the Character being changed too much, which is my own problem and no one elses. Progression is a good thing, but in this case I feel it's more of a sidestep. It reminds me of a cartoon influence by toys, not a cartoon influenced by story. But once again, this is just going by the trailer and the cartoon itself could be better.
I do want to like this show, and I will watch it to give it a go. Just like I did with Thundercats (which I strongly dislike after watching 10 episodes...).

While I can see how the style would not be to everyone's tastes, I will say that the fight scenes were incredibly well coreographed. The designs were really well thought out, especially little details like Peter's t-shirt label poking out from behind his neck. I also really liked Wolverine and the X-men.

Later in the comics Fury had the Ultimates take turns training Peter. To me it was one of the coolest parts of the series and I wish it had taken place sooner. That's part of why I'm so pumped for this new show.

Remember, my last comment on this was "from the inner me who really wants to like this cartoon". The rational part of me believes this is to sell Spidey Motorcycle Toys and nothing more.

YES. The fighting was incredibly well choreographed, this was among the many many things I loved about SSM. Also, I digress, "Hate" is such a strong word for what was really just minor annoyances with the art choices for the two characters in particular that I never really adapted to; Doc Oc and Green Goblin.

Thankfully the strong character development made me forget I didn't like how they were drawn (faces mostly) as I watched the show.

Oh don't get me wrong, I loved Wolverine and The X-Men, I was sad we weren't getting a season 2, especially after learning Deadpool was going to be a big part of it. It was the same gripe though, I disliked the way they drew Wolverine, and on an unrelated gripe I hated (no mistake with that word this time) the return to bitchy, whiny, Emo Cyclops from the 90's..."JEEEEAAAAAAN" :Elmer

Yeah I remember reading about Deadpool and the synopsis for season two. It makes me really sad that Disney felt the need to wipe the slate clean of Marvel cartoons, where they could have just continued them on.

Cool thanks for that. If it happened during Death of Spider-man then I didn't read it. I read these books for the stories and characters, and after killing of so many characters I enjoyed reading about I just lost interest. I'm glad the book is still going strong and that Myles Morales is getting a good fanbase. Maybe one day I'll pick up the book and give it a read but for now I'll stick with ASM.

I never thought I'd say this, but I have grown to like Miles Morales' character. He's certainly no Peter Parker, and that is one of his greatest strengths of character. He has all new issues to deal with and new reasons to be Spiderman, new villains to overcome that are being introduced in a very interesting way.

While he's still very early in his Superhero career and has absolutely no idea what he's doing or even know what exactly he can actually do entirely, I can see the building blocks for very great stories down the line. It's exciting feeling like you're learning how to be a Superhero with Miles along the way.

He also has a slightly different power set than Peter. He has a camouflage ability that can pretty much make him invisible against any background and he has a venom type sting that resembles the DIM MAK in Kung Fu in that he can immobilize foes with a specific finger poke. He doesn't yet know or understand the full extent of this ability yet and is usually surprised when it works.

Sadly...no webs for Miles yet :(

MegaPrime33 04-02-2012 07:55 AM

Anybody catch the new episode? I have mixed feelings about. Seems a bit too jokey for my taste. It's not bad overall I guess, and maybe Marvel is thinking since Iron Man Armored Adventures is working with Tony in high school, why not spiderman and his new team. Only time will tell I guess.

Falconhood 04-02-2012 07:43 PM

N-O! NO NO NO!
So far, I hate it. The side-bars are unbearable. The intro of teenage versions of Power Man and Iron Fist do make me interested, but only because I liked them back in the 1970s.

NoodleChow 04-02-2012 08:10 PM

yeah not entirely feeling the teen versions of those guys yet. at least cage and rand show up in EMH which makes me happy.

LORD MARVEL 04-02-2012 08:50 PM

Lol ... Im just glad we have a marvel universe cartoon hour... Im not going to say its bad or the best spiderman cartoon cause all of them had there flaws...

Greenskar 04-02-2012 09:18 PM

100 times better than the spider cartoon where NPH voiced Peter Parker! Lol.

I will give this at least the first season before I make a definitive statement on his good or bad the new show is. As far as 1st episode, I say it was average. Far from terrible, but definitely not something to hand a crown to as best spidey cartoon ever...again, only one episode in.

cabrican 04-02-2012 10:20 PM

cartoon sucked. teen shit is beat but i guess it sells.

Snowflakian 04-03-2012 01:20 AM

It's not comic accurate at all....

It was still a pretty fun watch though and entertaining in a really wtf manner.
Kind of like if Parker Lewis can't lose, ferris bueler's day off and Spider-man all had a love child together.
This is borderline what I'd expect a deadpool cartoon to be really though.

Now what does need to go are those horrible marvel mashups. Whoever thought those were good should be fired.

Wolverine and the X-Men was canceled because Disney bought Marvel pretty much, though that's oversimplifying it.
What happened was Marvel made the cartoon and shopped around for a network to air it, finally nickelodeon decided to bite and go for it. When it came to the second season Marvel wanted Nickelodeon to pay up more to have it made and Nickelodeon wanted to pay the same price they paid before to air it with Marvel ponying upfront the majority animation cost(during the middle of all this Disney bought Marvel). You have to really dig to find these details though as the only thing anyone involved will say is "Financial issues" even though season 2 was greenlit. They never could agree to final price so season 2 ended up permanently on hiatus. Allegedly EMH and WatX are the same universe though, just like Hulk vs Wolverine is the same universe as them(which we may see referenced later this season in emh!).

Ironman armored adventures on the other hand Nickelodeon does pay upfront for. So that's why it sticks around. It's a true "nicktoon" whereas WatX wasn't.

Anyone else noticed that Disney has pulled all the Marvel reruns from the lineup right before these premiered? I can't even find them through on demand anymore. Only Ultimate Spidey and Avengers EMH now.

That's interesting, even though Nickelodeon and Marvel couldn't agree on a price were there any details as to why Disney didn't want to meet Marvel's requirements? I would have imagined that Disney having just bought the rights to Marvel would be able to afford to continue the production of the show, and since it was popular and had a dedicated fanbase would have guaranteed ratings. I would also have imagined the season 2 synopsis would have brought in more viewers, having featured Deadpool and the Age of Apocalypse.

Back on topic, I'm still yet to watch USM. Will hopefully do so soon.

So what exactly sucked about it in your opinion? Just curious.

As for the teen is beat thing, yeah ultimate spidey was all teen in the comics...did pretty damn well too.

@snowflakian - yeah I never expect marvel cartoons to be 100% comic accurate. I can't think of one cartoon series that has been truly comic accurate yet from marvel rather than just adapting comic stories into something that will consume 22 minutes of weekly airtime. I will say that they at least got the feel of ultimate accurate IMO.

I read some interviews and basically Loeb and the team were challenged by some executive to find a way to do a Spidey show where he can use a lot of tech and is part of a team...*cough*sell toys*cough*… and this is what Marvel came up with.

I understand the marketing direction and I'm actually impressed, all things considered, that it turned out to be something cohesive. This peter does act like ultimate peter Parker. Breaking the 4th wall is definitely a Deadpool thing, but his sidebars work with the narrative and saved us the pain of the origin setup of how he became spidey and how villains became villains and can just jump into new stories.

Bendis is also involved with the show from what I understand. So for people who think the character isn't being handled properly, I'd suggest reading ultimate for a bit (early runs) and seeing if that helps. They got nick fury down and aunt may so far.

I just want to know where Flash's fat bald friend is. He was the huge spidey fan in the comics but it looks like they chose to stick with Flash since he was/is a spidey fan in 616 (and new venom).

Soo...you gonna state the parts of the cartoon you said sucked for the sake of conversation?

I keep hearing mixed reviews from people so I like to know what's consistent with the particular dislikes and likes.

my girlfriend said i sounded like an asshole in my last post so i apologize. i didnt like the pows and zaps and various interjections throughout the show. also im not a fan of younger versions of super heroes: high school spider-man is fine but high school powerman and ironfist is not for me. and lastly, im sick of nick fury and shield. i grew up reading marvel in the 80's and hate how nowadays shield makes all the heroes their patsies.

Yeah I just watched the second episode with power man, iron fist and the random nova character. This episode used way too much of the "scrubs" daydream thing in this. It was fun at first, then I was like "again?!"

I hope they don't saturate the entire season with an overdose of this gimmick. I have to admit I am not too fond of the teen versions of power man and iron fist now that I've been introduced to them. They seem to have made Nova the douchebag for whatever reason. Here's to hoping this show fleshes these characters out more and shows them becoming actual super heroes and not just teens with powers and out of control hormones, lol.

Interestingly, the other part you dislike seems to be the one thing I actually like about this show; Nick Fury is spot on with his Ultimate Version in terms of behavior and look at least. Shield is just the package that comes with him, so whatever...interesting they included the movie character of agent Coulison in this.

Only saw the first episode yesterday afternoon. Didn't even know it had started airing yet, and now I've already missed two episodes?
I hate DisneyXD's godaweful inconsistant scheduling. May as well not even bother trying to watch it (Only lead to massive headaches and missing half of Avengers first season when I tried to keep up with that), and just wait for DVD.

So, so far it doesn't blow me out of the water like the comic, and Spectacular Spiderman did (Which to me felt more like Ultimate Spiderman animated in spirit, than this does so far). However, I do not hate it. I don't feel like this is a halfassed and poorly written replacement for Spectacular, like TF Prime makes me feel when it comes to TF Animated's cancellation.

I'll give it a few episodes, to a whole season before I make any final judgements, as they need to find their feet, and figure out what works, and what doesn't. Hopefully a lot of the "Scrubs styled daydreams" (as Greenskar called them) will get weeded out, as they don't work nearly as well to justify how much they get used. They don't have to go away, just scaled back by at least half.

The Teenager thing is annoying to me as well (And such things usually don't bother me. I like it in Ironman: Armored Adventures). Not so much that Spidie and MJ,a nd the rest are teenagers. That's how the original started, that's how Ultimate is, and that's when Spiderman is at his best. But, while I've not seen the episode, I see no reason to have made Luke Cage and Ironfist into teenagers. Characters do not have to be "kids" in order for kids to identify with them, and there really is a bad trend in kid shows where writers seem to think this is true.

Anyway, those are what I don't like about it. But none of those things are dealbreakers, and none would keep me from watching the show.
As for what I like, in this case I haven't seen enough to find anything that stands out.

It would be nice to see some of the darker twists from the comic get incoprorated a bit later. And knowing disney, it's impossible to say if they would allow it or not. First instinct is to say they never would, but hell, they can go pretty dark when they want to. (Gargoyles springs to mind, immidiately)

Great feedback, Jetty. I can't say I disagree with any of what you said.

I'm actually just purchasing the episodes for avengers EMH and ultimate Spiderman on PS store because I don't care to pay for the entire cable package from time Warner cable in my area. I don't watch enough regular TV to justify it so just getting these episodes is way cheaper on me at the moment. I'm too impatient to wait for DVD or Netflix.
