Korra premiered yesterday! To those who missed it, and the repeat showings of today, it's also getting shown again tomorrow (Monday 16th) at 3pm eastern, and Friday at 3:30pm eastern.

Minor Spoilers follow!
Seems very promising! I quite enjoyed it, and it has a very different feel to it than TLA did.
I very much loved Pro-Bending. And it's very odd seeing Katara as an elder. Know it was coming, but it was just odd. And nice to see Appa wasn't the only skybison afterall!

One thing I want to ask everyone...
It's obvious that TLA was heavily influenced by Miyazaki, even without the creators admitting it. The visual style, and world setting is all very Miyazaki-esque.
However, Korra feels very different to me. The Miyazaki influences are still there, but more has been added.
Is it just me, or does it feel more Kosuke Fujishima to anyone else? Korra herself sometimes feels like she was designed by him. And the world sort of feels like if he took a crack at the Airbender setting.

the animation is AMAZING!

but im still unimpressed, im not fond of Korra, i think she's unlikable and annoying as a main protagonist...

Pretty sure she's supossed to be. But then look at how every single cast member of Airbender grew and evolved. Zuko especially (I found him to be extremely annoying through most of the first season. It wasn't until The Blue Spirit that I began to start liking him).

So this is the first (two) episodes of the first season in a franchise that started slow (Book 1: Water was a fairly slow season), but grew to something monumental.
I'll give it, and Korra herself the benefit of the doubt, and see where they want to take us.

I hated Zuko initially, and hated him even more throughout the series...he became this wretched emo that dwelled on everything and anything...he changed his allegiance at the drop a dime...that's one character i dont miss!

I'm personally more interested in what happened to Sokka, I'm certain he ended up with Suki the warrior girl...and I'm sure they have children too, so where are they!? lol

Crazy Jetty 04-16-2012 01:31 PM

I always wanted to see a miniseries that sort of allowed everything to wrap up completely.
Logically, Zuko and Aang would be increadibly busy trying to rebuild all the bridges the fire nation burned (Figuratively, though with the sense of humor this show has, I could see them opening with them actually building a burnt bridge), which sort of dictates how everything else goes when you look at the reality of the world, and the characters. And we now know they eventually put their time and energy into building Republic City. So that's pretty spot on.
Mae I imagine would be pretty bored. I could see her very easily starting to root around in any remaining records, trying to figure out what happened to Zuko's mother.
Katara loves Aang, and nothing would change that. But she would be placed in two hard places. The reality that she now has to share Aang with the world, and the responcibility that he's the last of his kind. Both are a lot of pressure.
I'd have her running off with Mae, to look for Zuko's mom. Just trying to escape.

Sokka we know is wishywashy. Anytime he gets too close to Suki, he always starts to feel like he's betraying Yui. The female characters in this show have always been well written, and always been strong and assertive. I could see Suki (Probably followed by Ty Lee) travel to the north pole, to speak to the moon spirit, and ask Yui directly for permission to be with and marry Sokka.

Sokka, Toph, and Iroh would be fun to have them on some sort of adventure.

Granted, none of it's real, but that's what I always wanted to see. And what always seemed most logical and what I believe a fairly realistic direction the characters would go in.

Ha ha...kind of like Miko in TFP. But at least Korra learns and eventually humbles herself.

i really do wish this series will touch upon and update us on all the previous characters...the ending of avatar didnt really...give us a conclusion...to me, it was VERY open ended and unsatisfying...

im sure they'll touch on Zuko's mother, because that was BRIEFLY mentioned by Katara before Milo interrupted her....

I'm sure they'll give us some stuff. Also pretty sure Aang himself will appear, the way Avatar Roku appeared to Aang.

Also, anyone else wondering if Tenzin's wife has any relationship to Zuko and Mae? Granddaughter, maybe? (Seems to be too young to be their daughter)

One thing I'd like to see, and kind of hope for, is that Airbenders will, and have been popping up, being born to outher nations, and non-benders. As a way of Nature trying to balance itself.
Maybe we'll find out about that at some point. Korra did say that Tenzin is the only airbending master. Not the only airbender. (Not to mention his kids and brothers)

Wow, this show is STILL on? I loved it but I had no idea it was still on. Don't see it on YTV anymore. Must only be airing on Nick in the US and I didn't subscribe to the new Nick Canada channel.

They didn't really say if he was dead for sure. Maybe the arrows an Ang thang and thats why Tenzin has them too

Still on? It just premiered!
Unless you're thinking of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Which ended a few years ago. The Legend of Korra is a sequel set 70 in the future.

Aang is dead, definatively. There cannot be a new avatar until the current one passes on. Korra was born the moment Aang died. Just as Aang was born the moment Roku died. And Roku was born when Kyoshi died.

And the arrow tattoos are an Airbender thing, not an avatar thing. I *think* an airbender gets them when he or she becomes a master airbender. They pay homage to the Skybison (Like Appa), who taught the Air Nomads how to airbend.

I *am* curious to see if Korra's water tribe tat will light up when she enteres the avatar state.

The amount of technological progress that has happened is interesting but it does take me out of it a bit. It's kind of jarring I guess. I wonder if there will be any large scale enemy to deal with or not. She only has one style to learn at the start of series so they won't have to dedicate too much time to that I think. One thing that made the Aang and company so gripping to follow was having this huge war to fight.

We think they'll have a war to fight as well.

It's hard to tell, this early on xactly what their long term plan is.
I have a believe, based on random rumors I've heard, that even though Avatar was a monster hit, Nickolodeon still doesn't have much faith in this series.
I've heard rumors that Nick originally only ordered like, 13 episodes of Korra, and then bumped it up to 18 once it got fairly close to airtime.

And I file this as a rumor, because I don't know if I'm remembering this correctly, but I believe they said at SDCC last year, that Korra is a lot smaller in scope than Avatar was, and will mostly take place in Republic City.
I also think they said that their plans are for one season only, but they have alternate plans to make a second and third seasons if Nick wants it.

Which feeds back into my belief Nick doesn't have much confidence in this show, dispite it's pedigree. It's timeslot doesn't help ease this belief, either.

Korra finally showed some vulnerability today, which was endearing... looks like they might try and stir things up between her and Mako now that he has new arm candy...

I don't believe Amon(?) has the ability to take away bending powers...i think in the previous episode he was working with those guys to make it look like he did, it was kinda convinient that Bolen was last and that he was associated with the Avatar...i think he's just trying to put fear into Korra, which causes her powers to fail her, not because he can take it away. just my thought though lol

That's a nice theory!

On a side note, I'm thinking Amon had something to do with Aang's death. And that has something to do with how badly Korra's afraid of him.

Now a fun question that popped into my head watching this episode... if someone took away the Avatar's ability to bend, what does that do to the avatar cycle? Would that end the cycle, prematurely trigger the next avatar to be born (Thus starting a NEW Avatar line? Sorta the way a second slayer appeared when Buffy died for all of five seconds, in the early seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer), or would nothing change, other than the avatar loses his or her ability to bend for the rest of their life?

xhavoc86 05-12-2012 03:27 PM

this show is getting better! i was surprised to find out that the police chief is actually Toph's daughter??? and she was actually dating Tenzin at one point! lol

Crazy Jetty 05-12-2012 06:57 PM

Welcome to the party! They said that Lin Beifong was Toph Beifong's daughter pretty early on. First or second episode, I think. Korra figured it out the first time they met. ;P

I should have figured out that she and Tenzin had a thing though. With hindsight it's completely obvious.

I was also afraid that they were going to end this episode with Amon taking Lin's bending away.
And I think that Amon is somehow linked to the face stealer. He wears that mask constantly, and I *think* he mentioned not having a face, even?

What episode is this that we find out they used to date?

Crazy Jetty 05-12-2012 08:19 PM

Episode 6.

Crazy Jetty 05-20-2012 05:11 PM

I swear to Maat, that Chief Beifong just gets infinitely more badass each episode.
After this last episode, she is now my favorite character. XD

One thing I hope is that we get to see Tenzin unleashed. Hopefully, both he and Lin together, side by side, in a serious epic battle.
