Actually, Taraka-Tomy still owns the worldwide copyright to Beastformers/Battle Beasts. Hasbro licensed the toys from them under the brand Battle Beasts in the 80's. So the Minimates versions would be a sequel of sorts to the original line.

It's similar to the Marvel Minimates, in that Hasbro has the main Marvel license but DST/Art Asylum has their own license for producing Marvel figures.

Really excited to see these, I think the two years would be a good time to figure them out. I think its very clear of what a fan wants right now when it comes to "rebranding and upgrading" 80s figures. MOTUC does it well and GI JOE to some sense.
