I have each of these lines, complete and loose. Hands down, super powers is better. Probably the line all other super her toy lines is measured by. Truly phenomenal figures.
I'm a HUGE Marvel fan and really not too big on DC. That said as much as I loved the SW figures{still have several}, the Super Powers were light years ahead in articulation and sculpt. Still have over a dozen of them as well as the Batmobile and they still look pretty good compared to even some of today's figure lines.

They've been putting out lower quality super hero lines ever since! |
Secret Wars all the way. Some of my favorite figures as a kid. They would've dominated if they went on longer
DC Super Powers. Easy vote for me. They were the superior toy line for sure.
At least this round is on even footing with one another. I can't believe how close the votes are.
Well, I may be out of line here, but I think some people are just voting Marvel because they like Marvel and may not have seen either. Marvel seems to be the generic "safe vote".
I would say Superpowers simply because it leads directly to DCSH, DCUC, DCUCAS, and so on
Superpowers, I didnt even know the Marvel line existed and I worked in a toy store in the eighties.

I actually liked Secret Wars more than Super Powers when I was a kid. It might have had to do with the fact that I had no interest in DC Comics at the time, or the fact that SW figures were easier to get than SP figures were where I lived.
I had a few of both and loved playing with both but I have to give it Secret Wars.
Secret Wars all the way- the awful rectus of a smile on many SP figs was...terrible.
The gimmicks hurt the line as well- like how Green Lantern had only one pose you could go with since his gimmic of squeeezing the legs together to make his arm shoot up kinda blew. Though he was still better than the recent GL movie figs! Secret Wars was also Marvel's first action figure line- and it gave us a Black Suited Spidey that still looks amazing on display- the perfect match for Secret Wars #8. The line was intended to expand when it got cancelled and become a Marvel Universe line (yes, really). They prodiced a few amazing figs that wrre unrelated to the SW comics- Falcon, Electro, Iceman, Daredevil, Constrictor, Hobgoblin and my favortie- Baron Zemo! I never scored Electro, Constrictor or Iceman (which kinda sucked) but the I have the others! Secret Wars was the best looking line Marvel ever had untill late in Toybiz's run with the line. As to comparisons, it's not really a fair race- While Marvel's line was great looking, it did not have the Articulation and varing sculpts of Super Powers- Aso the Super powers line ra longer and had WAAAY more figures! The SP line developed a lot during it's run while the SW line was hard to find and Mattel (then, as today) sucks at making action figures. Still, I gotta vote for Marvel- the articulation was not on par with Super powers but when you see figs like Hobgoblin (still the best comic-looking Hobby!) or Doom (the only fig to ever get that amazing SW armor!) or Baron Zemo and compare them against the first wave of Super powers suckiness (Superman, Batman and Green Lanter looking hihj as kites) and the punching gimmick, which I hate, I gotta give it to the Marvel line. Though I bet some Super Powers figs could make great customs fodder! Anyone know a website that shows that entire line? |
As much as I prefer Marvel over DC in just about everything, the Secret Wars figures really sucked when put side by side w/ the DC Super Powers.
Didnt get to vote but I woulda went with Marvel
DC sucks |
Super Powers !!
Super Powers. They were such a good line that not on;y did Toy Biz reissue them but copied the body style for the first figures in their Marvel line (Barrel chested Captain America anyone?) but when the license went back to Kenner even THEY reused sculpts from the line to make the Batman, Joker and even the Penguin for the first two Keaton Films. I love the old Secret Wars toys but the Super Powers line cause Toy Biz to ditch that figure style in exchange for Kenner's style.

Wow...this was a close match up indeed.
