It's not ongoing, it's a five-issue limited run and actually the last one comes out this week. It's been okay so far, the main appeal is getting to spend enough time with these guys to hear their personal thoughts as each issue is narrated by a different member. We found out that Corvus Glaive would like to be thought of as witty or funny and Black Dwarf has a deep appreciation for poetry.

ah i see...thnx...
i prefer them as muderous monsters.
..how is BD still functioning after Infinity...ha.

Even monsters need downtime. Mass slaughter is tough work. ;)

There is a good community of people here, if we started using the comics section it could be as good a place as any?

I used to hang out at comicBookresources.com back in the day. It wasn't particularly hostile place back then. Has it changed in recent years?

I backed the project. I appreciate those Hydra and SHIELD stand-ins because I think cannon fodder soldiers should have more of a normal build instead of looking like Mr. Universe contestants.

They were all dead. Black Dwarf was killed by Ronan. Hela iced both the Black Swan and Proxima because she thought it would make Thanos all tingly, Thanos snuffed out Corvus in his book not too long ago when Glaive thought he could wear the daddy pants. I actually don't remember when the Maw died. Did he die on Earth after they found Thanos's son?
The Challenger, an Elder of the Universe like the Collector, the Gardener, and the Grandmaster, brought the Black Order back with his fancy death powers.

I don't think Ebony Maw ever died, I know his partnership with Thane ended when Corvus caught them and he cut a deal to run. I think there was also a period where they forced him to have his movie powers by tethering him to Supergiant's ghost but that seems to have ended, I didn't actually read the whole Challenger story.

I found the Black Order to be quite lame and ineffective characters in Infinity War. What did they do exactly? Aside from getting murdered by the end?

They were just Thanos' henchmen, that's kind of what they were there for.

jmurray90720 03-04-2019 06:28 PM

A little character development would have been nice.

You're not alone there. I'm honestly not crazy about these characters in the comics because the idea of Thanos needing a personal team of cronies always felt off but there are little things about them that lend them some character which has slightly endeared me to them, like Corvus and Proxima's thriving marriage which is apparently better off than almost any hero couple. The movie versions though were basically just evil CGI cardboard cutout villains. I think they just put them in the movie so that the heroes could actually beat somebody who wasn't a nameless drone. The only one in the movie who seemed competent or menacing in their tasks was Ebony Maw who was so ludicrously overpowered compared to his comic counterpart that they basically had to kill him off early so they could fight Thanos solo. At least they got some pretty neat designs.

When I checked it out it didn't seem very active, but it didn't seem hostile no.

I thought Ebony Maw was quite well done. Yeah, maybe the rest weren't the most fleshed out, but I felt they functioned well. Better than the Chitauri.

The Black Order exist as a buffer between Thanos and him having to either kick the crap out of everyone all the time or inventing some new contrived way to stop him. I can’t imagine it’s easy to keep doing, and maybe that’s why he dies a lot. Like he’s such a presence that they just dunno what to do with the guy?

Or maybe he keeps dying because he likes to visit his girlfriend and collect muchas smoochas.

So I had a dream last night that it was confirmed that the upcoming Emma Frost comes with a Selene head, but when we got close up photos of the face it was that damn Momo face that's going around on social media. :D

Well Thanos views himself as a god, so he's going to have his own cult of followers. I think it works because if people are going to worship you, you might as well make use of them.

I've got nothing wrong with this. I don't need every villain in every story to be some sympathetic character. Some people are just born evil and that's it. I'm actually pretty tired of this recent trend where villains have to have some complicated backstory with a reason as to why they turned to the bad side. It ruined Maleficient, it ruined Michael Myers in Rob Zombie's Halloween movies, and it almost ruined Darth Vader.

Yeah- I'm good with the time and story they were given as well- I could see if someone was a HUGE Black Order fan being disappointed- but c'mon... there are already 17+ existing characters all trying to get some screen time in a 2.5hr movie.Giving brand new characters that are nothing more than a stop-gap between the Heroes and the main villain any more characterization than "crazy death cult of thanos" would have been a big mistake... what would you have had to sacrifice in IW to make room for their story?

Dr Kain 03-05-2019 10:24 AM

lol I finally started to play Spider-Man yesterday and couldn't put it down. I ended up playing for nearly 10 hours straight. It is so damn fun.
