Rise of the Planet of the Apes - 7/10
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - 9/10 War for the Planet of the Apes - 10/10 |
Star Trek VI: My first time watching. It has eclipsed 2009 as my favorite Star Trek movie.
Star Trek TPM: Weird, weird movie.....but I admire it's ambition. Star Trek II: Overrated but not bad. Star Trek III: Rewatch, used to be my favorite of the old ones but it's not very good. Star Trek 2009: still amazing. |
Just watched Poor Things. More like poor you for actually watching this boring ball of nothingness. The movie was beautifully shot and had a lot of great atmosphere when it was in B&W. The moment it went into color it just started spiraling into random scenes that went nowhere until it ended. I've seen worse, but it was just another one of those movies that was made to be Oscar bait.

A Quiet Place Day One - This may actually be the best one yet. It was very suspensefull, had some truly incredible visuals, a great character you felt sorry for and wanted to see make it, and some great character moments. 8/10
Peeping Tom - Fantastic Neo Noir horror film about a messed up dude who uses his camera to kill people and record their deaths so he can watch them repeatedly. It's very suspenseful and watching this dude's psychosis as he struggles to resist his urges is interesting. You also learn very early that his dad messed up him royally, which is why he is the way he is. |
MaXXXine - Utterly amazing and a great end to this trilogy of horror films. It takes elements of slasher films and blends them brilliantly together with those of a Neo-Noir. 9/10.
|
Longlegs - It was quite good until the last few minutes, then it kind of lost me. Still, very well done, though, not a movie I will probably watch again. 7/10
Deadpool - Gotta get ready for the third one in a few weeks, so it was time to finally rewatch the first one. It's still as solid as it was the last time I watched it (which was when 2 was hitting theaters). 9/10 Deadpool 2 - Not as good as the first one, it drags a lot, and has a complete disrespect for Shatterstar, but it's an enjoyable ride most of the time. The Juggernaut song is friggin badass and the fight scenes are good. I really like Brolin as Cable and it just occurred to me that the young Cable in the recent comics resembles his movie design a lot, which is cool. I give it a 7/10. Point Blank - This was a really interesting Neo-Noir starring Lee Marvin as a man out for revenge. It's also apparently John Vernon's very first film, which was cool. The movie itself was really interesting with a couple of mind breaking scenes that had you guessing what was real and what wasn't while being a well told story with some good pieces of dialogue. I give it a solid 9/10. |
Transformers the Movie - One of the greatest animated movies of all time. It's very fast paced, sometimes to its own detriment, but it is a perfect way of doing a toy commercial that kills off one product line to bring in the next. What I really love about them wasting no time killing off the Season 1 Autobots is the movie tells us that anyone can die and any time. All bets are off, which raises the stakes. I also have to say the 4K is incredible. There are little details I never realized existed before like sparks coming out of the Insecticon's mouths when they are eating away Autobot City. On the other hand, it also really highlights the bad quality control in animaton from miscolored Transformers to incosistencies in design (beyond Unicorn, who was always noticeable and I still don't understand why he changed looks between scenes). I give it a solid 9/10.

Piranha - This wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. They actually tried to put a bit of plot into it, which really surprised me. Sadly, only one of the two major assholes he deserved to die died, so that was disappointing. I did find it ridiculous though that the piranhas would devour an adult in seconds but could barely puncture skin on children over the span of minutes. 7/10

Turning Red- simply amazing, one of my fav movies.
Jumanji, still great. |
Deadpool 3 - 8/10
|
Alien - 10/10 Greatest horror movie ever made.
Imaginary - It had some interesting ideas, but was quite boring. Still, way better than Night Swim, that's for sure. 6/10 |
Holy shit! If you told me that after the countless number of failed attempts at making a good Alien movie since Aliens would fall onto Disney's shoulders and that they would succeed at it, I would have called you crazy. My god, this movie was bloody amazing!!! This is what it should have been this entire time (not that I don't love Aliens though). The movie was just non-stop suspense and tension right from start to finish. Well okay, from the moment they get on to the space station. From its social commentary of how corporations see people as slaves to the company to the intensity of the xenomorphs, this movie was so damn good. There were a lot of build up to reveals with a pay off that did not disappoint. I am half tempted to say this is my favorite movie of the year even though it was not perfect.
It also got me wishing I still owned Alien Isolation as now I want to replay that game. Some of my favorite moments:
- There being a hole in the floor that is later revealed to have been caused by a hanging Xenomorph corpse - The Xenomorph growing into an adult scene - The stealth mission around the face huggers - The creature at the end looking like a Xenomorph mixed with an Engineer - A pun saving the day and the anti-gravity scene - The technology matching the original film
|
Deadpool & Wolverine is really good like the first two

El Mariachi - It's like watching classic John Carpenter make a movie set in Mexico. There are so many amazing camera angles and film techniques used to make it stand out. Not to mention the music really enhances every scene with great precision. The story is a bit weird in parts, but overall, it's a truly great experience.

Saw a preview of Megalopolis. It was horrible.
|
Desperado - It has been way too long since I last watched this movie (like 15 years too long). Every scene in this film just oozes with atmosphere. While there aren't as much close ups as there were in El Mariachi, Rodriguez continued to put in his best efforst with this film. Every actor does an incredible job with the role they are given, the soundtrack is utterly amazing, and the action scenes put many movies that come out these days to shame. As much as I love my Marvel films, they just don't compare with a film like Desperado!

Once Upon A Time in Mexico - What the freaking hell was that? Like what did I just watch??? I thought I was going to be watching the third movie around the Mariachi. Instead, I get some convoluted crap dealing with FBI agents, CIA agents, a presidential assassination, a revolt, another guy who might be financing the revolt but wants to stop the revolter from taking over the country so he can take it over or some crap like that. Random people show up, random people die. Johnny Depp plays Johnny Depp and then loses his eyes but walks it off 3 seconds later.
Oh yeah, the Mariachi is in there somewhere, but instead of continuing the great chemistry between Banderas and Hayek, she was killed before the movie even started and we get a few flashbacks every now and then leading up to her death. WHAT???? Gone is all of the unique camerawork, the slow build ups leading to an action scene, and pacing. Gone is the style and there is no substance to make up for it. Worst of all, it's just fucking boring!!!! How the hell did we go from Desperado to this?????? Why did they give Rodriguez a budget? He was better off without it. Oh, and Danny Trejo and Cheech Marin somehow survived just to die again. Trejo's death in the previous movie was hilarious. Here, it was pointless. |
Demons - This was an odd film. It's like a zombie movie mixed with demonic possession Evil Dead style that takes place in a movie theater. However, I'm very confused as we watched it in what was supposed to be its original Italian audio track, but the actors' mouths did not line up with the audio as if it were dubbed. I thought it was recorded in Italian and then dubbed over like all Italian horror films????
Demons 2 (aka Everyone Forgot How to Turn A Door Knob) - Not bad despite being a rehash of the first film. I'm not even sure what this has to do with the first one. At first, I thought it was going on at the same time as the first and we'd see a demon get in that led to the attack but nope, it happened by a monster being able to come through the TV screen. Oooooooooooooooooooookay. Oh, and a lady forgetting how to turn the knob to open up her door. |
House of 1000 Corpses- for the 1000th time.
|
The Watchers - Well, it's not the worst movie of the year (Night Swim was worse), but the acting was so wooden that the characters seemed to be zombies rather than living people. Then again, that was to be expected when you have someone like Dakota Fanning as your lead. The plot twist is very predictable and just comes off as an utter bore. There were some good ideas even though it felt like it was just ripping off The Village but having there be actual monsters instead of that bullshit hoax shit. Regardless, this movie does absolutely nothing with its premise. Ovearll, this is a pretty forgettable movie that isn't really worth you time.
Beetlejuice 2 - It's a bit convoluted with a substory that was utterly pointless and nothing would have changed if it had been removed, but it was a good time. Visually it was fantastic and it felt like classic Tim Burton before he sold his soul to the studios. |
damn I haven't been on here in a while.
Deadpool and Wolverine- watched it for the second time last night. Still good. 8/10. Star Trek Generations- really moved me, and a fitting end for our captain. 9/10 |

The Fog - While it is not perfect, this movie is freaking amazing. It's very suspenseful and has a wonderful soundtrack to enhance every moment. I do wish JLC actually served a purpose because removing her from the film would not have changed a single thing. 8/10

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Honestly, it was just ok. Not as great as the first one by far. Maybe it's because I was tired. I'll give it another shot someday. |
Rebel Ridge. Didn't catch the beginning but it was not bad. A little long and the ending didn't quite satisfy me.
