My Brotherhood 3 pack arrived today, and as I mentioned, it was something of a mixed bag. Here's some thoughts...

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...b0fe2a_k_d.jpg

Quicksilver: I really like the choices that Hasbro went with this guy. I like the body, the colors and the headsculpt, and the deco is fairly well done. Like Symbi said, the 2099 body is very well balanced, allowing him to strike some natural and good looking running poses, thanks to the butterfly joints. My only major gripes with him is that mine has some paint slop with the application, and being that they used pearlescent paints, it's gonna be tough to fix and get a good match with them if I were to attempt to. There is also some breakup of the paint in tiny patches on the chest, which could have used maybe another layer or two.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...36281b_k_d.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...b9caa2_k_d.jpg

Scarlet Witch: I never thought I would ever need another Wanda after the last release, and then lone behold, this one comes along and blows Hasbro's last attempt out of the water. The metallic plastics used here are fantastic, and I love the sculpted gloves. The magic effects here are reused from the MCU two pack release, and are nice additions. Where the figure really shines though is the headsculpt. It's amazing how Scarlet Witch has gone from being one of the hideous Marvel Legends of all time to one of the most beautiful. This may indeed be the most gorgeous non MCU headsculpt of all time from the Legends line, and it takes an already good figure, and shoots it right into the must own category.

Magneto: Here's where mixed bag portion of it all comes in. Magneto was a HUGE disappointment for me, and while I'm sure many who were never able to obtain the Jubilee wave version of him will sing this figure's praises, the fact is that I actually think a lot of things were actually implemented a lot better on that original figure than this newer one.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...16cd99_k_d.jpg

On the positives, the figure is a good size, and a comes with some accessories that we've seen before, but when paired off with accessories we received from the last Magneto, allows for some nice options. In addition the head sculpts from all the previous Magnetos will work with the new figure, and vice versa. The matte colored finish on the plastic looks nice as well.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7dd718_k_d.jpg

The negatives though are plentiful. The head sculpts look really off, and rather young. In comparison to the Jubilee wave figure, it looks as if there is a teenager cosplaying Magneto with this new one. The helmet is rather high, and has a bullet/cone head appearance to it that comes off a little goofy. The cape doesn't fit properly into the back, as the hole in his back is too small for the peg. The biggest disappointment though is in the paint job. It's really sloppy, inconsistent and very unevenly applied. This is where the TRU Magneto tops it, as this wasn't as much of an issue. The cape stayed put, the purples were purple, and the headsculpt, while not great, at least looked like an older man.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...eec799_k_d.jpg

Thankfully if you would want, it's very easy to take apart and kitbash these two figures to create the ultimate Magneto, which I might end up doing in the long run. The plastic colors match perfectly between the two and since the bodies are so similar, it would not be hard to swap the boots, arms and head for the perfect figure.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4fcfec_k_d.jpg
(New Magneto head and effects on Jubilee wave Magneto body, I'll be swapping out the feet soon enough...)

A good set with some issues could have been far worse had it not been for how excellent Scarlett Witch turned out.

Goddamn the new head they made for Wanda is fantastic. It's a shame I'm not that impressed with Magneto after seeing everyone's pics and I never really cared about getting a Quicksilver figure. This set is going to have to be on sale for me to consider it but I'm worried it may not stick around long enough for that to happen.

JAG2045 06-23-2019 05:03 AM

Just had an email saying my 3 pack is arriving July 2nd (not bad considering its got to get from US to UK!)

Really excited for this set, I think with Magneto now and classic Storm, Nightcrawler & Mr Sinister coming soon I have pretty much all the X-Men figs I ever wanted :-)

MeLikeJinx 06-23-2019 05:44 AM

^ For me all I need/want is the upcoming Nightcrawler, Banshee and 90's X-factor Havok... anything else after that is icing.

And after seeing some comparison pics... I think the new Magneto looks great. The new Scarlett Witch is way smaller than the Odin wave one though.

Have you thought about having Amazon send you a replacement so you can see if you can get one with better paint apps? That is what I'm going to do if my Magneto has a paint job like that.

Awesome review as usual Triv!
That new Scarlet Witch is absolutely amazing. I’ve definitely got to pick it up. I was on the fence about it but thanks to your Pics/write up it persuaded me.
Thats all I need is to spend more money.
But anyway Is it just me or does Wanda’s head sculpt kinda resemble Zooey Deschanel? Definitely not saying that’s a bad thing

Just from the pictures I'm really loving that angry Magneto headsculpt

Mine is out for delivery, so hopefully it doesn't take too long to arrive. Then again, I've got to head out for a party in an hour or so, so it's not like I'm going to be home all day to get it the moment it arrives (assuming it arrives when I'm out).

Ken, looking at your pictures the only complaint I have is Quicksilver's head looks too big. I'm not sure if it actually is or if it is just due to the really weird way Hasbro did the shoulders with the Sunfire body (the only thing I don't like about that body), but it looks a tad bigger from your pics.

Magneto looks light years better than that bug eyed flappy one from that previous wave.

My Quicksilver looks almost exactly like yours, but my Magneto is much better. I briefly thought about trying to send it back for a replacement, but I decided against it. I don't want to take the chance of getting a worse Magneto and I can just live with Quicksilver's sloppy paint. It is a little irritating that they don't try harder with the exclusive figures. We are paying full price for 3 figures and no BaF parts.

If I had picked up the figures at a major retailer, I might, but with mail order stuffs, it's a pain in the ass at times and I tend not to unless it's something I can pick up in hand.

I'm glad you like them. I've thought about starting a YouTube channel or blog in the past, but with the limited space and time, along with two small children running around constantly wondering what Dad's up to, I just post thoughts here to keep it simple.

Glad to see that mine might have been just an anomaly...although these shouldn't happen in the first place if Hasbro would slow down getting the product out and put a little more QC into it, especially if it's a premium priced exclusive. It goes a long way. It's a bad optic, especially when these are officially the first releases from the Marvel 80th line.

Speaking of bad optics, earlier this week I had a weird situation where Gamestop sold me Shuri, but would not sell me the rest of the wave because they were street dated for today's date. So come back to Gamestop this morning to check out the wave, only to find that the entire wave (excluding the preorders) had mysteriously disappeared from the back and had been sold. *shrugs shoulders.

Went to a different Gamestop on the way home though and managed to nab some consolation prizes at least. They had Union Jack as well, who I passed on as he had some nasty paint issues, but I was able to preorder him and Bill through Amazon, so we'll see how that goes. Just need to track down Rescue.

Yeah back on Thursday the 20th I was at my Gamestop and they told me that apparently they had received a notice to disregard the street date and begin selling, I had to go to a different location to actually get Bill since the one that store had was only in to fulfill a pre-order.

TheBlueMarvel 06-23-2019 03:05 PM

The paint is consistently good on my 3pack. Scarlet Witch is everything I thought she'd be from the first photos, but her headdress could develop into a common QC issue for others. My fig's cowl/head-gear is slightly misaligned leaving a noticeable space between it and the hair.
