Note that I can't prove that's what they do, but considering that the Classics shelf at TRU is always empty, I have my suspicions.

They are not exclusive to Toys R us. Comic shops most likely ordered them from the distributor, though it is very possible they bought at retail as well.

I can get through lcs or walmart, lcs was charging $30/figure!! bs, walmart is $14.99 each.

Greenskar and I found these at a LCS. $20 each, not bad. I hated going to TRU to be disappointed. These guys are awesome. We split the cost up between the both of us. We'll eventually pick up the others on the next pay day. Now I want them to do classic shredder, bebop, rocksteady, and casey jones.

Glad you found them. No Turtle fan should be without these.

I honestly think Playmates should get a "comeback toy co of the year" award for these and their Nick version Turtles (especially considering the price of the Nick versions).

I agree, haven't gotten myself the classics yet, but I have the Nick version turtles and for the price, the amount of detail, articulation and accessories is amazing!! 1 of the best figures for the $$.

FaustX 09-24-2012 06:41 PM

They nailed the faces so much better on these guys than on the bigger figures...couldn't be happier.

I did mean as regular retail. My disclaimer was that they likely did get them through Diamond instead.

EDIT: I may be wrong. The giant storage shell Turtles may be the TRU exclusives. I've never seen either in a retail setting so I might have gotten confused.

Totally agree. The nick version ones are great for what you get for them. I'm close to getting the van now but I don't have room for it. (troubles of every collector).

But then Greenskar and I came up on the classics and were amazed by them. Indeed Playmates should get an award for these. Nostalgia is back all over again.

The use of the phrase,"Turtle Power!" is absolutely appropriate for this Year's TMNT figures both new and classic. Just about makes up for knowing that Michael Bay will rape this franchise shortly. When its all said and done at least I will have my classics Turtles...or at least Raph and Mikey until Symbiote and I find these again at retail.

Michael Bay has almost completely nothing to do with the film.

He owns a company that is financially backing it.

And he promotes it because he, you know wants it to make money.

That is all.

Do you mind me asking, what is your age range? Early 20's, late 30s, etc...
I only ask because I have been trying to see things both ways when it comes to Bay, but as a 80s baby I just cant. It seems that folks who didnt grow up watching G1 TF and TMNT don't really have that much of a problem with him but guys who did want to castrate the man. I liked TF1, hated TF2, and TF3 was ok. As a whole, the franchise is a slap in the face to the fans who grew up with the show. The man actually said he thought the show was stupid and the cartoon movie was terrible. Renamed characters as he saw fit. Killed off fan favorites. And now for the rest of time Bumblebee will never talk again. (Id pay to hear his thoughts on this) If he wanted to do a movie based on giant robots fighting the military nothing was stopping him. I feel like he sits in a room with pictures of our favorite 80s shows on the wall and throws darts at them to determine which one goes in the toilet next. (crossing my fingers for Thundercats and SilverHawks) Why even come out and say that you're a part of a team putting together a TMNT movie, say that you are changing the origin, listen to fans get pissed, and then tell said fans "they need to chill"? Why even make the movie have anything to do with TMNT? Just make your own franchise up, right? Wrong. That man is Satan in 80s clothing. So to answer your question....wait, what was the question?

On topic, are the Classics out of stores now? I need Leo and Raph and am still kicking myself at passing on Raph a month ago.

Ummm, Last I checked he was a Producer.
Ninja Turtles (2014) - Cast & Crew - IMDb
So yeah, he absolutely has something to do with this film.

Also read these exerpts from the leaked script that has also been rumored to have caused the movie to be pushed back to a later release date.

Michael Bay's TMNT Script Has Leaked, Confirms Worst Fears | Geekosystem

I don't remember public backlash against Jim Henson bringing the Turtles to the big screen. But I was a kid in the 80's, so I wouldn't really remember or notice such things. So to Black dynamite's point, you're likely to care less if you weren't a fan of the 80's cartoons or at least grew up in that era, because you have no investment of time in them to have it matter.

I personally don't care for Michael Bay's take on Transformers, but I'm happy a new generation of kids have a new found TF fever. I don't see how the Turtles could ever be more popular nationwide today than during the Jim Henson created movie turtles. We'll see.

Maybe if he made them the Teenage Mutant Mixed Martial Arts Turtles they would resonate more with today's audiences?

Anyway, BD I don't think they're out of stores I think stores are just out of them because they get bought up as soon as they hit the shelves.

Dang man, I saw Raph one time and had to choose between that, ML Ghostrider, and the Joker/Harley Mad Love pack. Was an easy choice for me but I knew Id likely never see Raph again in my TRU. Oh well. I still cant bring myself to pay comic store prices for them.

Symbiote 09-25-2012 08:45 AM

I love these classic figures. $20 for these was an easy sell and a decent price at an lcs. I hated trying to leave work for an early lunch hour just to get to tru when they open to try to get these guys. I always come up empty handed for the past couple of weeks. Hunting in SD is tough but the SD arker community is building and we are helping each other out as best we can.

Greenskar 09-25-2012 08:48 AM

I don't blame you, man. The only reason me and Symbiote decided to grab 'em from our lcs is because it was only $5 more than retail and would have been the price of shipping if we ordered online from somewhere. But @$35 and above (like some ppl have reported) they can go screw themselves, I don't need them that badly to pay more than double retail.

Symbiote 09-25-2012 08:53 AM

Yeah $35 is rough. Lcs that have fair prices are far and few between. At least out here. If your patient, its only a matter of time before they hit mass retail.

Black Dynomite 09-25-2012 08:53 AM

I saw them for $22 each in Vegas right as they started to show up at retail and thought that was too much at the time. Lol, can't wait till Im done with this time machine Im working on.

TRU is selling a super sweet B2TF Dolorian :p

Black Dynomite 09-25-2012 09:02 AM

Pfft. Another one I need to go back and get. But now we're talking about going back into time to get a time machine. Im pretty sure the universe will colapse. At least thats what my research tells me.

I'm 27. I never watched the Transformers films because I had no interest. I've only seen a few of his movies and the ones I've seen weren't altogether terrible. Armageddon is still the only natural disaster flick I like.

It's my understanding based on what he's said and what others have said, that his creative control on the project is almost zero.

Michael Bay's TMNT Script Has Leaked, Confirms Worst Fears | Geekosystem
I've read the entire script and the "alien" thing isn't even the worst part. The Turtles are from Dimension X. Okay, I can deal with it. Shredder being a colonel named Schrader? Multiple f-bomb drops? General poor writing all over? Yeah, that's troublesome.

Bay said though that that script was from Paramount Pictures before his company even got involved.

Michael Bay Claims Leaked Teenage Mutant Turtles Script Was First Draft - CinemaBlend.com

The film might indeed end up being entirely shit. I'm just saying it's a little naïve to be jumping the gun this early in development and also making Bay into a martyr just because he pooped on Transformers. If the movie ends up sucking, there's an entire line of people to blame before getting to him. It's not his film any more than the Friday the 13th reboot was.

Greenskar 09-25-2012 03:58 PM

Ok so basically what you're telling us is that you believe what bay is saying even though its his job to paint a positive image of whatever they are working on even if it means denying a leaked script?

I liked Armageddon too, because of the cool Aerosmith song we got out of it. You didn't watch any of the TF films, you didn't miss anything either.

I bash Bay because he wears these movies like medals when he speaks as if he did the franchises a favor by being a part of them. That's my take and I don't see why I shouldn't be able to poke fun at it the way he's been hyping up the new Turtles movie as the seemingly self appointed spokesperson for it. I don't need to see a movie to know if the concept is lame to me. I've avoided many a movie based on that notion and the general opinion from people who did watch them was negative.

Bay will be putting his 2 cents into this movie because he's a producer and because he's...well, Bay, but if he gives any input to the team I sincerely hope that it's somethings shouldn't be tampered with. For example, Peter Cullen voicing Optimus Prime for all 3 movies was the single best part of those films. He is Prime. He saw the impact that he had on the fans.

Since he's not directing there might be fewer explosions though.

I wonder what scale the movie figures would be in if they made a movie line? Were there ever any toys from the original TMNT movie? I don't remember.

Because if what he's saying isn't true, Paramount can come back and bite him on the ass by claiming/proving he's a liar.

Not really. There was a sub-line that was sort of TMNT1/2 and one for 3, as well as a full line for the fourth film.

behindthemask 09-26-2012 12:20 AM

Bay movies are known for visual effects and shitty storylines. I don't mind remakes, or relaunches of cult classics, or adapations, but it has to be done right, 300, sin city, even kickass were decently done, and had about 10 minutes worth of thought. TF movies would be soo much better if they did it in a retro type feel, like you could do 3 films, 1 based on 70's-80's musclecars and big rigs, 1 on 90's with fast and furious whips, and 1 of 00's of supercars/future cars. solid story, visual effects, as much original voiceover work and storyline as possible. .... I'd love to see a beastwars movie. just my 2cents.

trebleshot 09-26-2012 10:49 AM

Bay is only hyping the TMNT movie because his company is producing it and the more money the movie makes, the better it will be for his company and himself.

As already stated, he's not supposed to have any creative input on making the film itself, just like Spielberg and the TF franchise.

Considering how much money Hasbro made due to the success of the TF trilogy and what Hasbro was in turn able to make for us toy collectors, I would definitely say "Yes. He did us a favor."

Did I like the way he went about it? Not really, but there's always a reboot just a few years away. Just ask any Spider-Man or Superman fan.

I agree with this statement. I think its just his Ego that irks me. Well, that and I didn't like his take on the Transformers, but I did state that I'm happy a new generation of kids have a new found TF fever. I like that my 7yr old nephew will come and talk transformers with me and has a favorite character.

Could this happen with the new Ninja Turtles movie? Possibly, but I'm hoping the new cartoon gets more kid fans first. Saw the footage at SDCC 2011 panel and I liked what I saw. That was a concept I definitely enjoyed.
