In other news, CNBC posted an article saying that Hasbro's profits are up thanks to Avengers Endgame and that they are set to make millions in Phase 4. The article goes on to mention that Hasbro's deal with Disney expires at the end of 2020 but Hasbro has stated that they have every intention of renewing the deal. If you want to read the article, go here: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/23/hasb...e-4-slate.html

Good article. They also note there's a lot of potential gas left in the tank to keep the brand going if there's a renewal.

Quote:

And it’s no surprise. Marvel and Star Wars are two of the top five best-selling toy properties in the world, according to NPD data.

“Quite frankly you’d expect this contract to be renewed because of the long-standing relationship [between the two companies] and the success of the Marvel line,” said Jim Silver, CEO of TTPM, an online toy review site. “In terms of gross sales, it’s a billion-dollar property for Hasbro.”

The toy company has had success turning the characters from Marvel’s films into highly sought after action figures. Hasbro has a core line of figures just for the theatrical releases, but also has “Legends” collector series for the truly passionate fans as well as a line of child-friendly toys as part of its Playskool line.

“Hasbro has done a good job expanding the line for all different ages and demographics,” Silver said.

As it stands, Hasbro will be the toy master for “Black Widow,” “Eternals” and any tie-ins to the Disney+ show “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

Should Hasbro secure an extension to its licensing deal with Disney, it would have access to create toys for “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” “WandaVision,” “Loki,” “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness,” “Hawkeye,” “Thor: Love and Thunder,” as well as a number of other films and shows that have yet to be given release dates.

Marvel head Kevin Feige teased sequels for Black Panther and Captain Marvel as well as a third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Not to mention, Marvel will be doing a “Blade” movie and, likely, a “Fantastic Four” film now that it has repurchased the rights to those characters through its acquisition of Fox.

Of course, any toys Hasbro makes for these films and TV shows are not guaranteed to sell. Richard Gottlieb, CEO of Global Toy Experts, noted that the content of the films and shows will have a huge impact on actual sales.

”[Sales are] really going to rest on how good the movie is,” he said. “There won’t be inherited value from a well-known brand.”

For example, “Justice League” had the makings of a lucrative toy line for rival toymaker Mattel. However, a lackluster movie with a forgettable villain meant toy sales were also flat.

Gottlieb noted that a number of the upcoming films feature characters that are new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While hardcore Marvel fans know who Shang-Chi and the Eternals are, for most of the population they are no-name superheros.

“This is a whole new batch of characters, so we don’t really know how the broader audience will embrace them,” he said.

However, that doesn’t mean their action figures won’t sell. Black Panther was a relatively obscure superhero to non-Marvel fans and, with the success of the film, sold well for Hasbro.

Regardless, “there’s going to be a passionate core who will buy these collector products,” Gottlieb said.
C'Mon, Disney. If this is profitable and the product is selling, don't be stupid.

Hasbro needs to stop wasting its money on those titan hero things, those half articulated 5 inch figs and all that other garbage that stagnates on shelves and pegs. I barely see any of those things move. With all the plastic and money they waste on that garbage they could incest in returning mu back ( with articulation and accessories back at a reasonable, non crackhead price ) and investing better qc for legends and their other properties.

hasbroherofan 07-28-2019 03:10 PM

They've been making them forever now, so if they are still doing I imagine they have to be seeing some decent return on investment.

If you pick up a dremel, make sure you get yourself some bits for it. You can find box sets that have everything you'll need for less than 20 bucks if you check around. While the stuff that comes out of the box can be used, you're gonna want some of the fancier cutters, drill bits and sanders that can make the job a breeze.

Said dremel kit came out pretty handy with my 80th Anniversary MCU Cap and Peggy set...which I'll give some thoughts on now.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7fe9fe_k_d.jpg

Peggy Carter:
This one will be a bit short and sweet, because truthfully, there's not a lot to her as a figure. The sculpt is entirely new, and the paints on mine were pretty well done. (I love the backseam on her stockings!) The hip/ab crunch has a very good range of motion, and the elbows get more than 90 degrees of bend, so that's good. The headsculpt on mine was really well done...but the print is not as crisp as what we've received lately with the MCU stuff, and the figure suffers from that "sorta looks like without looking like" syndrome that we've had with certain scanned MCU actors and actress figures. From one angle, you will see Ms. Atwell, while at others, I see my pharmacist.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7e1904_k_d.jpg

As for gripes, there's the elephant in the room, the legs. They have nearly no articulation thanks to the skirt. You still get the double jointed knees, ankle rocker and thigh cut, but good luck being able to do anything with them, as the skirt is very form fitting and hinders it. The head fits quite well on many of the female bodies out there, including the Onslaught wave Sharon Carter, QR suit, and any of the Jessica Jones bodies without any mods needed, so I think the real challenge is finding a body that works a little better for more action packed scenarios. Peggy also has tiny feet with high heels that can make her a chore to stand on, and while there's a pistol included for Cap that Peggy could use, it would have been nice if she had her own specific weapon relevant the British military of that era, like a Webley or Browning.

Good...but not great figure...but she scratches an itch and I'm just relieved we received her in the first place.

MCU WW2 Cap: This figure has been high on my list of wants for a while, because it could've doubled for a new Ultimate Captain America (before that one was announced) so it's nice to finally get this one in hand.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1d27ac_k_d.jpg

I don't have the motorcycle version as he's sitting in a pile of loot atm, so I wouldn't be able to tell if this has the same exact sculpt as the comic version (with some tweaks) but on it's own, I can tell you that this is an all new sculpt, and is one that customizers can easily convert into a 6" G.I.Joe Duke in a hurry. The jacket and arm pieces are sculpted well, with some really nice leather textures. A slight black wash would have been nice to bring out the details, but there is still some there that can be seen. The web gear sits nicely on the figure and can be removed, and they feature working weapon storage, which is awesome. No fake pistols here...Cap's .45 fits in the holster and stays there. The shield, pistol and Thompson all have nice painted details as well. I also love the star shield prototype, which looks great with the Winter Soldier Cap figure, and makes a good prop overall.

Cap has two headsculpts, which feature very little variation between them outside of some changes to the hair, where one is a bit flatter than the other, which carries more height and volume. My guess is that the flatter one is meant for the helmet, which sits nice and snug on the flatter head, while it sits a bit high on the pouffe head. Like I mentioned with Peggy, it suffers from "kinda sorta" looking like Chris Evans depending on the angle, but it definitely has a resemblance. The scan on mine is lined up pretty good, but like Peggy...it's not as crisp and honestly a bit soft or fuzzy in detail...almost cartoon like around the eyes. It's also a bit dirty for some reason, and I can't tell if that's intended, or if this is a factory error.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f71927_k_d.jpg

There's some mileage that can be attained out of these new headsculpts as well I should mention. The new headsculpts work really well with the QR and original WW2 MCU Cap like a charm with no modifications needed. They do not however work with any of the more modern Caps that we've received, nor will it work with the original Avengers Cap. Vice versa...the Chris Evans heads from the worthy or 10th Studios figures do not work on this Cap figure either, so do with that what you will. I will actually be keeping one of these new heads on the original MCU WW2 Cap figures, since he spent a fair amount of time in that film without his helmet, and it looks great on the figure.

If you are wondering about size differences between the two, here you go.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...519c24_k_d.jpg

Now I mentioned having to dremel in the beginning of this review, and that's my major gripe with this figure...straight out of the box, the head sits way too high on the neck. I dremeled out the inside of the head so it would sit a little lower on the neck, and I did that before I took these pictures here, so keep in mind in these photos that the figure has been modded somewhat. The other major gripe that I have with this new Cap lies in the shield. It's an EXTREMELY tight fit on the arm, and cannot be pulled all the way up it. It will only go far enough for the hand to hold the second strap on it, so keep that in mind so as to not damage it when putting it on the figure.

Pretty minor gripes though for what honestly is an awesome figure. I don't rant and rave over the MCU stuff much anymore, but this one is a must have, and is even a sweeter deal thanks to the decent Peggy Carter figure included in the set.

Maybe in iceland or canada? Damn near every walmart target and biglots i have gone to in recent years has always been flush with those things while legends hardly sees itself at full capacity. Maybe theyre dirt cheap so hasbro can just write em off once they sell em to walmart, etc but even at clerance prices those things and that roleplay stuff hardly ever sees a dent in product moved so i have no idea. It just really seems like a major waste of time, money, and plastic which could be spent on other endeavors that might actually move.

Oh hey arkers wal mart.com has the loki/glaive two pack up for order for those who need it. Heres the link.....

With this hobby in particular I've learned that individual anecdotal experiences don't always show the whole picture. Like I said: they've been doing the line since like 2013, so they (and by extension, the retailers who keep ordering them) must be satisfied with their movement.

I guess. It just seems that if they sold well they'd be as bare as legends in the toy aisles.

Speaking of bare aisles still see lotsa endgame caps and spatterings of kingpin and the occasional caliban wave fig.

Thanks to everyone for welcoming me yesterday. Thought I would share my current (and very temporary) Marvel Legends display. I have loads more stored in bins and boxes because of limited shelve space.

Peggy is Amazing! Definitely a worthy addition to an Invaders line-up that really helps cement the era. Steve makes a decent generic soldier (if you cover the costume peeking out of the top of his uniform) so I'll maybe grab another set and do some head swaps.

Most of my MCU stuff is boxed away as I move back more towards comic figures- but this set is still a blast- especially if you have a few Hydra goons for Steve to toss around-

Oh yeah, I do have the figure accessories (no sentinel bases though), I just wasn't pulling them out and dumping them on the floor.

Sent PM.

I have a love/hate relationship with that old WW2 Cap figure. It's a great sculpt but I hate how short it is. I was prepared to remove him from my collection because he's out of scale.
After seeing Evans head on that body, I'm tempted to keep it. Just need to figure out how to make him taller.

Tim 07-28-2019 08:02 PM

@Triv. Awesome/Review as usual. Not that I was on the fence or anything but you completely sold me on that pack. Love that Peggy Figure in particular. That Caps was my favorite look of his from the film. Now here’s hoping we get his “Play” outfit next.

@Actionman15 such a awesome collection!! Especially the MCU and X men in particular just screams the animated series to me.

^ Great pics. It makes me sad you can't put the bearded Colossus headsculpt on the 90's Colossus. Also I really wish we got a Juggernaut headsculpt that wasn't beat-up... would have loved to used the no helmet head on my BAF Juggernaut, but it looks dumb if he looks beat-up IMO... who wants a beat-up looking Juggernaut.

Nice collection... you have a little bit of everything on display. IMO it is best to have a rotating display anyway... it keeps things fresh and things don't get dusty and you have a harder time keeping track of how much money you spent. LOL.

To be fair, the only time Juggernaut has ever had his helmet removed IS when he has been beat up.

Juggs does often take off his helmet when he's just chilling. In fact, my first introduction to Juggernaut was when he was in civilian clothes. It was a comic where he and Colossus fought when the two happened to show up at the same bar.
Speaking of a civilian Juggernaut, if one were to customize such a figure what would make a good base body? I'm thinking the big guy from the Body Bags set might work.

So Maczero said. I've never seen him dress normally in any of the comics I have read.

One of my favorite : Non-suited up Juggernaut moments way back in Dadpool:The Circle Chase. Wade finds him and BlackTom on a plane. In more recent comics I know he has been running with the X-Men for a bit and hasn't been in his suit (at least at the recent funeral or memorial they were having)

Please wake me from this perpetual reboot nightmare that is X-Men comics.
