Loving that new Gray Hulk. He looks cool!
Bummed about the Spider-Man news. Maybe Marvel will just use Night Monkey now. ;) |

Whoa... that vintage Gray Hulk... too cool.
|
Don't need a Gray Hulk, myself, but I gotta admit that it has a nice head-sculpt. Wish we could have gotten it as an extra head in the Hulk/Wolverine set.

Of course, that is just the rumor. We have no idea if any of this crap is true or not. Whateveer happens happens, but people need to stop this doom and gloom bullshit as if it was Marvel alone that made Holland great. He's been established as a character, let's see what happens next IN the movie before we turn into religious nutbags. |

Sony also made moves to consolidate their ownership of Spidey on Playstation by buying the developer of the PS4 game. In general, their biggest issue seems to be too much executive interference once they have a success. The ASM franchise went from a film that was used to showcase Sony's 3D Tvs to a film that was bloated to set up a Spidey Cinematic Universe at the last minute. Just like Spider-Man 3, they decided to shove way too much in near the end of a film because of upper level mandates. Spider-verse was an odd fluke from Sony, managing to get quality screenwriting, direction, voice acting, and even soundtrack. They really need to focus on being able to recreate that and get more merchandising support. |

It's not a direct insult, but more a generalized statement how we shouldn't lose our minds over this. The sky is not falling, the world isn't ending and there will (hopefully) still be good Spidey films to come. So much of the reaction on social has been doom and gloom and slanted against Sony...but there really needs to be more thought and discussion to it. This might not be the popular opinion, but I don't feel any sympathy for Disney/Marvel for this one. With what Disney was reportedly asking for, Sony had every right to tell them to stick it up their you know what. You have something that they want, and if you do... you do what you can to maintain that leverage. Unless of course, you wanna be like Kenner with Star Wars or Fox with the Xmen with the way they eventually lost theirs. People also seem to forget that while critical acclaim is a good thing, movie making boils down to box office draw, and while Sony took some serious missteps in how the product was presented to us along the way, the bottom line is that all of those missteps still made a ton of money hand over fist. And those missteps drew big bank without Disney's involvement. Reviews and awards mean little if no one cares or is paying to see it. In fact...Spiderverse (which many regard as the best Spidey film ever and I won't argue) made the LEAST amount of box office out of all of Sony's Spidey efforts. As long as we continue to see these films, Sony will (and really shouldn't) feel any pressure to budge an inch from their hard line. Fifty percent is a HUGE asking price from Disney...and why? Spidey is like Batman. He succeeds on his own. Spidey doesn't need them, as much as Disney needed Spidey. I'm actually excited for this, because Spidey doesn't need to rub shoulders with Captain America or the X-Men in order to tell great stories, as he has one of the most recognizable group of side characters and rogues out there. Disney is about to wander into this next phase with a bunch of characters that very many people know little to nothing about...which will be even more scrutinized (and possibly overlooked) as they test the audiences patience. We all just want our X-Men and FF films NOW. Not everyone knows who Helmut Zemo, Shang Chi or the Eternals are...but EVERYONE knows who Doc Ock, Carnage (more on that in a sec) and the Green Goblin are... This also should provide Sony with a venue to include more mature material as well...as there was no chance in hell we would ever receive the bloodshed a Spidey fronted "Maximum Carnage" or "Torment" would provide, or the sexual energy that an encounter with Black Cat would cook up under Disney's watch. Deadpool, Daredevil and Logan proved that there is an audience for a comic flick without the whimsical Disney magic draped all over it, especially when it's well done and handled with care. Don't feel bad for Tom Holland. He constantly teased wanting to battle Venom on screen, and if he sticks around for the long haul, there is a lot of money coming his way in the future. And finally, I see this as a small bit of karma coming back on Disney. The way they coldly and with a great deal of apathy told a grieving father that he couldn't erect a tombstone for his recently deceased child who adored Spidey during his tragically short life was absolutely abhorrent, disrespectful and disgusting. The reason? Because Spidey is "good" and "wholesome". (well what the fuck are children then?) Basically, street cred. While I adore my entertainment and sports media as much as the next person, as a father, to deny something like that which could promote so much healing and love and costs NOTHING is simply vile and almost evil. I hope somewhere, that gentleman has his feet on his desk, with a small smile on his face. It will never bring bring closure to the loss of a child, but it must feel good to see someone finally tell the Mouse to not let the door hit them in the ass on the way out. |
I'm with TP on this- while staying with the MCU would be ideal for that occasional cross-over, I think Stark and SHIELD are 100% unnecessary in the Spider-verse and it will be neat to see how things go forward-

I’d except some amount of backlash aimed at Sony from hardcore MCU fans. The Sony lead editions won’t be nearly as successful. I really hope Disney comes back to the table, and swallows their pride on this for the fan’s sake. Too many things in this world are all about money, give the fans what they want...you’re better off in the long run.

Sidenote: Yes, I know Black Panther won Oscars as well, and while they were landmark wins for the superhero genre as a whole, sorry, I don't consider "Best Production Design" or "Best Musical Score" to be all that important. "Spider-verse" could (and should) have been nominated for best picture that year as well. Granted, it again becomes an argument of what is considered successful...box office draw or critical acclaim, but to say that Sony won't be able to crank out something comparable to anything Marvel/Disney has done is outlandish. Warner Brothers has been on an entertaining tear with everything non Batman/Superman related as of late, the first Deadpool was great, Bumblebee was a hoot, and despite it's problems, Venom was NOWHERE NEAR as bad as everyone wanted to make it out to be. Other companies have and will continue to put good stuff out there as long as there are people working on the projects who give a **** about what they are making. I personally don't see anything wrong with Disney eating a L on this. |
What’s everybody think about how some folks have already gotten that Grey Hulk that appeared online yesterday?

I was going to wait, but since I saw him in stores today I figured I might as well grab him. |
I'm still waiting on Dorkside to fulfill orders for multiple items. I've seen all of it in various brick-and-mortars several times in the last 2+ weeks.
  :cry |
