I think it has something to do with the old mold being lost or broken and to re sculpt it was just not profitable for them. But that is entirely my own speculation. |

I spent some time and made a new diorama. I am pleased with the way that it turned out though it was time consuming. This was a great line-up of Thunderbolts and although it ended rather lame, I was disappointed to see it go. |

As big as I thought that I was making it, it still isn't big enough for doing shots of some in my collection. D'oh! |

@Ultraman Zoffy
I'm all over that! I just need to rethink my storage situation. Good thing I collect loose...I can only imagine the headaches that the card and blister packaging will present...;) |

Really nice pic.....love it. Usually when I have a set up I like I keep it there for the foreseeable future...but it is space consuming. |

But back to VashTS about the Uatu re-release, from what I've seen DST typically produces figures regardless of studios at war with each other. I know they're under contract to produce a certain number of figures each year but I'm not sure if re-releases count in that yearly number or not. It's possible the mold could be lost but I think it's more likely that Uatu was put off in favor of another figure. Even re-releases like Ultron or the Thing can be seen as a way to cash in on the movies coming out this summer. |
Got the reviews of Sentry and Thor up already.

I have to believe that Hasbro can do a little better than this breathtaking version of the Goblin...if there was ever a need for an update...

There are a lot of Marvel characters that can't really be classified by their first appearance. Yeah, sure, to avoid licensing conflicts, when Marvel and the various studios with whom they've worked with in the past were drawing up their contracts, yeah, certain characters were lumped into certain brands, typically reflecting the comics the movies were based on. However, the Marvel comic universe is a little too dynamic and ever-changing to be viewed so narrowly. Black Panther, The Inhumans, The Kree, Kang (as Rama Tut), and soooo many others all initially appeared in the Fantastic Four comics, but they've moved beyond the label of just “Fantastic Four characters”. Black Panther has become too significant, and if anything, is typically regarded as an independent hero, like Daredevil or Iron Fist. Also, Kang is largely identified as an Avengers villain, while the Kree, the Inhumans, and even Annihilus are largely lumped into the Cosmic Marvel pantheon. With the exception of Jonathan Hickman's all-encompassing run, characters like Ronan (and the Kree in general), The Inhumans, the Skrulls (who weren't even in his run, if memory serves), Annihilus, etc... haven't even been in an issue of F4 for years. Meanwhile, many of them have been featured quite prominently in other corners of the Marvel U. When a character or alien race, once considered Fantastic Four characters, lacks a significant or prominent presence in the Fantastic Four comic (mini-series aside) for a decade (or longer), but has a Marvel "Event" centered around them, I think it's safe to assert that they have become overarching "Marvel characters", as opposed to just "Fantastic Four characters". Again, I'm honestly not trying to be rude or anything, just expressing an opinion. Sorry for my long-windedness :) Back to the Legends figures ! |
I thought Annihilus was in some recent FF stuff as that weird child Annihilus thing, technically it's just Annihilus reborn and growing since Nova gave him forced and traumatic internal surgery which put all of his spine and guts outside of his throat, but I digress. Technically Annihilus has been in a FF issue within the last few years, he returned with Johnny Storm when he was revealed to be alive.

Thanks to Hickman, some of these characters have become more present in F4 and FF (well, when it was still around), like Kang, Medusa, and Medusa's son Ahura, becoming regular characters in F4 & FF. I probably should have expressed my thoughts more articulately and said "haven't been, prior to Hickman", instead of "haven't been", when referring to the appearances of certain characters in F4. I still regard these characters that I've mentioned to be general Marvel characters though, not just because they have had numerous extended absences from F4, but largely because I feel that they've become so prominent and important in the overall Marvel Universe. I feel as if they've transcended the point where they should merely be considered supporting characters for the Fantastic Four. Honestly, I apologize if my tone comes across as snarky or as if I'm a know-it-all in these posts. It's just hard to dispay my usual laid back nature through this medium, lol :) |

I'd like to borrow one of your examples, if you don’t mind. Wolverine, while being one of the most iconic X-men, still has strong ties to the Hulk. Wolverine was a great foil for the Hulk considering that they are both essentially monsters, that just happen to do heroic things. This relationship has been played up by Marvel throughout the history of the characters in spite of the dramatically different directions the two have gone in since their first encounter. The Hulk vs 'toon (one of my fav Marvel animations) touched on this original relationship. The two have a shared moment (on the roof of a building) in the Infinity Gauntlet with Warlock even confirming their psychological connection and similarity in temperament. I can’t even begin to recall all of the times Wolvie and Banner have fought and touched upon the “kindred spirts” quality to their relationship. I tend to start at the beginning when trying to conceptualize the ethos behind these heroes/villains and I believe origins to be very important to the fundamental understanding of any character. I know I’m barking up a different tree than what you were getting at, but what you wrote stirred these thoughts … About Marvel Studios vs Fox/Sony/the world (?); it’s all above my pay grade and I’m still scratching my head. I thought this licensing stuff was germane only in the case of movies. Then I find out that Surfer will be replaced by Beta Ray in the Planet Hulk ‘toon ; another all-time fav Marvel animation of mine that would have been even more satisfying had Surfer made it into the work. I wouldn’t actually care as much if these licensing issues were isolated to the films (I’m not very invested in the movies – I believe ‘toons can be better from a budget and casting perspective, but that’s another discussion), but to think I might not get another Surfer fig because Fox won’t relinquish their hold on all Kirby FF related properties makes me cringe. It seems like these squabbles are spilling over into ancillary subsets of comic culture and I’m aggravated by that fact… |
