Well someone owes me a thank you. Every single rare figure they restocked are already gone. I hope that helped someone fill their collection. I ordered Mysterio.

Vex 11-04-2019 09:09 AM

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but it appears some new items are in stock on Pulse. Just picked up Mark 85 Iron Man and the WWII Riders Cap is in stock as well. Very tempting.

Comic book females are wacky...

Most of the female mutants don't do hand-to-hand anyway. Almost all of them use various forms of projectile energy of one form or another. X-ceptions off the top of my head being Rogue and Rahne.

We do know a few female scrappers do... She-Hulk often transformed and interrupted doing lawyer stuff to beat up baddies. Black Cat had a very intricate amount of femme-fatale build up before tangoing with Spider-Man in her early career or getting her nose broken by Venom when trying to bring him down. Makeup would be crazy for Invisible Woman, as it would leave a floating face-shaped cloud.

So yeah, I don't think it's very "realistic" but then this is comic books 95% illustrated by men for teenage boys and other men. Heavy stripper-makup and exaggerated bodies just seems to be par for the course.

...I think Ronda may have (I doubt it though because it'd be an eye irritant when sweating and may even be illegal - irritant to others potentially and might affect grip for chokes and neck cranks) worn a base, but not lipstick, mascara, nor lashes. Maybe that's why she looked so uncomfortable getting knocked out..."not the face, not the face!"

I promise you Ronda Rousey, the attention loving (seeking) gal that she is has never been attempting to conceal her identity. MMA fighters aren't paid to be glamorous. WWE Divas which Ronda is now, do. While wrestling as a whole isn't "real" it's still physical stunt work with a certain level of needed athleticism. FYI good quality waterproof makeup stands up to sweat just fine. Urban Decay's All Nighter setting spray will lock your makeup on for days. Having worn my fair share of makeup in my life, it can be made to last, except fake lashes, that i will give you, no matter what kind of glue you use those things will not stay put.

hasbroherofan 11-04-2019 10:48 AM

I would say the heavy makeup thing stems from the same reason in comics that you have trained martial artists and acrobats who for some reason think fighting while wearing high heels is a smart decision.

Can we just accept that fantasy =/= reality and move on? :D

Some fun you are... c'mon! for a few seconds during your day, just think of Invisible Woman turning invisible and her pancaked visage and lipstick just floating in space!

I'm sure Reed made her some unstable particle Maybelline but it's still fun!

Anyway, back to the partypooper's point ;) ... Now that Marvel/Disney has pulled in all characters from Fox so their "boycott" is over, and the 20th anniversary of the first X-Men film, what do you think the chances are of seeing new 20th anniversary X-Men Legends figures based on the film? I would LOVE a decent 1/12 McKellen Magneto figure!

snake5289 11-04-2019 12:03 PM

They could do a wave for each movie.

En Sabah Nerd 11-04-2019 01:05 PM

Well I was able to order Grey Hulk from Pulse. I considered getting Deadpool too but the metallic blue color isn't sitting right with me, it's not like I need more DP since I've got the Juggernaut wave figure and the X-force figure from the 'Squatch wave.

Unstaybeline! ;)

Tarooster 11-04-2019 03:11 PM

Just grabbed Grey Hulk and Deadpool off Pulse for $60 with free shipping. I actually really dig that metallic blue on the DP and it reminds me of the old Xmen Deadpool figure from Toy Biz.

And Hulk just looks fantastic all around.

Did the original ToyBiz Deadpool have some variant I'm unaware of because the regular one was basically gray (except for the red of course)? I thought the metallic blue was just a shout-out to comics frequently using blue highlights on what was meant to be black material, like the cover of Deadpool #-1.

ThorOdinson123 11-04-2019 04:08 PM

Mark 85 Iron Man Marvel Legends is a fantastic figure the colors are gorgeous and a great upgrade. Downside no Tony Stark head or nano tech with the stones in it for the I am Iron Man snap. Come on @hasbro

Thanks to the Ebay Seller who had 4 Iron Man's helped me out

Valkyrie should be shipping Tuesday from Walmart

The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe marked a deliberate attempt to tether the pantheon to real life by explaining superpowers using actual science - and they did a pretty remarkable job; quite a few of the talents at Marvel had backgrounds in physics and engineering and their explanations of characters like Mags and Surfer are as fascinating as they are practical. To some (especially DBZ fans used to stories more akin to fairytales and children's stories:p), the endeavor might seem silly, but a large number of readers (myself included) really enjoyed the effort. Of course, it's all fantasy whichever way you slice it. That said, I truly do prefer at least some 'grounding' in comics. Without some level of realism, what's to prevent Bugs Bunny from taking out an infinity gauntlet wearing Thanos with an ACME anvil to the head? No dramatic tension in that...;)

I love the agile people with capes! LOL What a surefire way to earn a broken neck!

Great, now Disney's gonna buy Time Warner (if they don't own it already). Then all bets are off...

That was really my point. It's stupid and perpetuates misogyny and makes zero sense for street level femmes like Elektra and Widow. If you're a powerhouse like Scarlet Witch, then yeah, rock some heels and blush...most people can't hold a candle to you anyway...

I just wanted to steer the conversation away before it got any more intentionally or unintentionally sexist (or just some people clearly not understanding what they're talking about). All that stuff you mentioned there is fantastic stuff that I love to read.

ANYWAY.

I know a while back I poo-poo'ed the older ML Loki (the one from the Thor movie tie-in wave from days of yore), but after taking a good long look at the Smart Hulk-wave version, I'm reconsidering. I like the idea of having a classic Silver Age Loki, but that version's head just ain't appealing to me. I still hate the lack of articulation on the older Loki, but the aesthetic is now pulling it up the ranks.

Anyone know anyone looking to part with it? I've been dipping into older (pre-ROML rebranding) figures a bit lately, and for the right price I could see myself adding him to my collection.

TheBlueMarvel 11-04-2019 04:57 PM

Ahhh...Those people are going to be that way regardless, but I feel you.

...that said, I think it's sad to limit the scope of conversation for fear of what others might say.

It just dawned on me that you might feel I was being that way. If that's the case, that wasn't my intention. Seeing Jean's perfect lipstick and hair just made me think about how ridiculous comics have been with sexualizing heroines and how skewed they are (or have been) to male sensibilities...not that women can't like wearing makeup or heels...it's just not practical in a scrap.

I dunno man....a swift kick to the daddy bags and a hard stomp in the eye socket....there is a small bit of practicality to it. ;)

JCarterVA 11-04-2019 05:44 PM

I received my early birthday present from my amazing girlfriend today Havok & Polaris X-Factor 2pk. I never read the series because I was not a fan of the artwork. These figures are fantastic! My only tiny gripe are the leg bands on Havok's legs. Hasbro should save some $ and have them painted on or "forget" them entirely. Great head sculpts on both.
