Thanks for the head's up, Triv. Hopefully we'll all find enough to fill our ranks.

Though if it's vintage wave Iceman in blue and not silver, and Pizza Spidey I might not mind since my default Spidey is the MJ two pack Spidey |

I finally stopped... at 11 :o
I have some more customizing to do, especially paint, but I'm digging the kitbashing so far. |

Ok, am I the only one that finds it hilarious that people are going ga-ga over buying multiples (many times over) of the Dani fig? Beyond the lazy factor that people once-upon-a-time complained about, swapping heads and other bits to kitbash figures Hasbro couldn't be bothered to make proper iterations for is now a privilege? Adding insult to injury, this fig was made into an exclusive lacquering on an additional layer of difficulty to procurement, while simultaneously feeding the uber popular secondhand price gouging market. I get that people view this as a win considering that characters like Karma were unlikely to get a Legends berth, but c'mon...it was only a few scant months ago that people groused about the insidious nature of utilizing this strategy with such a coveted character. Now we embrace a 180 degree turn with collectors gleefully highlighting their hauls of what was openly regarded as a gimmick by Hasbro to both save AND make money?
That telltale clacking in the background is the sound of the bar getting lowered by yet a few more rungs. I mean, sure, I've enjoyed my fair share of prescient moments throughout the years, but I can't be the only one experiencing a sinking feeling in their gut that following the Endgame Quantum suits and this latest Dani effort (non-effort) that this could be swiftly becoming the new normal... There's a good amount of chatter nowadays that we are getting what we deserve as Americans in a number of ways. This feels like some more of the same. EDIT:No offense is intended by this post, I really do find it all humorous and it's just an observation with an unsolicited opinion tacked on. |
^ Toy collecting is not that deep IMO.
I only bought one Dani, and I mainly got it for the Wolfsbane headsculpt. I heard people mention it before, but I would really like an X-factor Wolfsbane to go with the rest of the team. If we don't ever get one though I am glad to still have the New Mutants version at least. |
Not that deep you say? Tell that to the toy scientists here that will breakdown the rules governing what characters get double packed in a case, have mastered the calculus of when retailers place restock orders, or comprehend the dark science of SKU-predictive fortune telling for which unannounced reveals might be showing up in the next toy show...

I get that your post has a heavy dose of sarcasm, my man, but it really reads kinda... condescending and holier-than-thou. At the end of the day, people are gonna like what they like, and hate on what they hate, and sometimes those two things will be indistinguishable from one another. That's just how we be.

I've been a "toy scientist" here alongside many others, so never think I place myself on the outside of any observation I make. After all, and as it regards the statement in question, I buy multiple agents, thugs, henchmen, and extras of figs that impress me - for breakage, or just because - and I've always been up front about that. Any comment I make is usually purposely provocative, and this one isn't altogether different from others I've made previously. Personally, I'm always going to vocalize when I believe a manufacturer is taking advantage, the amount of money I've spent collecting gives me that right. As far as any percieved condescension, that is something that is as ubiquitous here as it is anywhere you'll find on the internet and, sadly, in life. And while people, yourself included, may read (at times, correctly even) into the things I write, what you won't find me doing is ganging up on someone, singling someone out in the pecking order here, or railing against someone over different ideas or systems of belief...unless, of course, I believe they've crossed some line of socially acceptable communication or an opinion has been presented as fact. FYI - There're many ways to be holier-than-thou and snark, to me, is the least offensive vector. But, for what it's worth, I think it's pretty obvious that I don't spend too much time worrying about the impressions I leave or the assessments others make of me. If we get along, that's cool. If not, that's also cool. If we're somewhere in between, coolest. If people are offended by my toy and collecting 'takes'...well, I've seen far more subtlety pernicious and antisocial things on this thread, so I'll ask that the offended parties indulge my intermittent "meh-ness" lol |

It's all good, Blue. Years ago, before Amazon and ebay, I used to freak out about the comicbook store owners who would camp out in front of KB Toys or TRU waiting for an enclusive to take back to their store and sell for triple the price. Now most are all out of business and my "archrival" is a manager of a pizza distributor, so I readily accept the petty, vindictive win. ;)
That being said, I personally don't mind someone buying 2 or 20 figures. especially if it's for their own collection. I just bought two Bebop & Rocksteady Neca packs. One for me, one for a friend. Clerk at Target said "Oh, one for you and one for ebay?" … yep. Next time, self checkout. |
@Webz
I'm down with petty and vindictive! ;) Ok, I'm starting to see the disconnect. My comment wasn't specifically about individuals here buying gobs of Dani figs, I could not care any less about the personal decisions others make with their greenbacks, nor do I care about the dent a few buyers make in the availability of a toy. The point I failed to convey, apparently, is while I'm ok with a one off here and there to get out d/e/or f list characters, I'm not on board with this becoming a trend...and it already kinda sorta is one. The good thing is that this only works with a handful of teams and characters, so the histrionics of my comments might be overblown...that said, and as mentioned, the language I employ is purposeful with the goal being to provoke consideration. |

As a former GI Joe & Star Wars 3.75" Kitbasher I bought tons of doubles, triples, etc. If people are going to buy a extras of figure that may not be on everyone's want list, have at it. I enjoy seeing the " new" figures people are creating. I think it is great for the hobby. Hopefully they might inspire Hasbro on the figures collectors are looking for. I loved Veronica's Firestar from awhile back. Hasbro should have just borrowed her idea and put it in the next X-Men wave. I did that with Trinity from the 1st Matrix series and was able to get an exclusive figure for the company I worked for. |

So says, Toystradamus. *also a joke* I don't consider myself 'Toystradamus'. ;) |

I'm all for store exclusives, but IMHO they shouldn't be "central" characters. Moonstar doesn't bother me, because I don't care for her or the New Mutants. I've seen others, such as Agent Venom, etc, who were really a headache to find. |
