Hey Blue what’s up Man!

I’m curious who everyone is using for cannonball’s legs. I’m debating on attempting to make him legs but I don’t know who’s the Right figure to salvage. I’ve heard Paladin before but is he the only one?

TheBlueMarvel 11-27-2019 05:24 PM

@Tim

Hey, dawg! Whuts gud, buddy! Edit: About your question, I thought Symbi's use of Shatterstar's legs was the best choice...See everybody?? I don't hate kitbashing...now let me continue my rant against kitbashing! ;)

She's turned out to be a popular set, but Hasbro doesn't attempt to meet demand, so there's an unnatural scarcity. Kraven/Spidey is sitting in clearance aisles by the boxes, but MJ is scooped up before they even take them out of warehouse.

I'm all for store exclusives, but IMHO they shouldn't be "central" characters. Moonstar doesn't bother me, because I don't care for her or the New Mutants. I've seen others, such as Agent Venom, etc, who were really a headache to find.

That's definitely a nuanced spin on where I was going and I agree that this sort gimmick does have multiple unforeseen consequences.

What happens if these kitbash ready figs sell better than other standard wares? I could easily see a scenario in which 1/3rd of waves became kitbashing fodder by the simple virtue of it being a lucrative cost saving measure. Any company would be stupid not to pounce on that and what is startling to me, based merely on the last few pages, is that many collectors are already there psychologically. "Hey Hasbro, I'll pay you money for parts of figures that look sort of like the ancillary characters I want that you don't have time to make...don't worry, I'll save you the trouble and cost of new tooling and manufacturing and pay you full price to do the work myself." Anyone that thinks that corporate strategies aren't deliberately designed to condition consumers in ways that work toward their benefit is naive about certain elements of business. Signaling to Hasbro that this is a winning model opens up the possibility for abuse, hence my cynical comment about "getting what we deserve." Thank you, sir, may I have another...

There are many branching paths off this road. Do I want a deluxe $50 kitbash friendly set featuring two mismatched physiques (not matching in the sense that they're a departure from what we are familiar with in the books) a la Hasbro's old Wolverine/Forge 2pack? Well, to be fair, I did buy it when it came out (2008ish?), so I'm not necessarily opposed. However, I'd much rather set slots be used for unique figs such as the Mad Thinker and his Awesome Android, Clea and comic Baron Mordo, or a Nightmare and D'Spayre set.

Again, in an effort to temper this, it's a good thing that this approach only works with certain teams and characters and there's a built in limit. However, the slippery slope this all represents is very clear to me.

Lol *joke* This is about the corporate model and its tendency to abuse. Obviously, I'm too early for most in my assessment. As we see this trend in real time and we are provided more full price heads and meh bodies I'll watch as sentiments change.

I didn't reply because I felt like this is where you were going, the corporate commentary. It's very easy for Hasbro to manufacture and I'm confident it's a comfortable profit margin for them. Army building/team uniforms are something I enjoy tho. If it becomes something I don't agree with I'll simply vote with my wallet. I just started kitbashing tho and I'm enjoying it so far.

Yeah, man, no offense meant at all. Kitbash with both aplomb and enthusiasm! Honestly, the kitbashing I've seen is incredible and often makes me wonder - "WTF, Hasbro? Just do that..."

Also, I LOVE army building and do it to a sickening degree. Henchmen, BAFs, I'm approaching 10 Doombots...more power, dude.

Hope everyone's Thanksgiving went well...

Since we were on the subject of kitbashing, after seeing Redfox's recent Selene bash, I realized had just about everything I needed to do the same as well. Took advantage of the Walgreens sale to grab another Emma, and went to it...making a couple of minor mods to the formula along the way. I really like how she came out. Hopefully we'll get more of the Hellfire Club in the very near future, because they are sorely overdue...

Wow, gorgeous work and love your mods! Never thought about using the Black Panther cape sans collar. It looks stunning on your Selene!

Apparently there are some limited-articulation K.O. Sentinel Build-a-Figures from China popping up on Ebay, if anyone wants some slightly cheaper army builders.

TheBlueMarvel 11-29-2019 05:38 PM

Tempting, but the lack of shoulder (and bicep swivel) articulation bugs me a bit. They do look good standing there and on the shelf, as the reviewer said, that should be enough to satisfy most. I likely need to tweak my search, but I can't find any auctions on eBay...

Edit: Ahh, he mentions where to get one...

Thanks you for the kind words!

I had the extra JJ head from the SDCC version, which I had forgotten about since I transformed that figure into a Gwen Stacy a while back. I opted for the Classic White Queen head with the JJ hair since Selene has blue eyes, and it was included with the Emma.

I felt a little conflicted in chopping up the BP cape, but I could not unsee it as Adam Warlock's no matter how hard I tried. I hate taking parts off of figures I don't have duplicates of, but I knew I was never going to display that BP with it on.

In addition, I still have the original Toybiz BP cape, which is more accurate and far superior. The AW cape also rests perfectly and is proportional on Selene's shoulders, while the hair does a great job of hiding the cut, whereas it never fit that great on the BP as that cape was meant for that older AW figure (it had a much longer and skinnier neck in comparison to the current Bucky Cap mold.)

Now to cobble together a proper White Queen, though I'm holding off on that one because I have a feeling we'll be seeing her in the next year in either comic form or as part of the rumored Fox-CU Xmen wave.

I don't have the funds right now, but I placed an order for the Alpha FLight set with my maxed out CC as that means I will at least have that price locked in for 3 days. Maybe I can sell something off before then.

Due to the hype around Hickman, I gave Powers of X and House of X a shot. Didn't really do much for me. I also gave all the resulting X titles a shot and I'm still not interested.

I think my biggest problem is routinely being able to resurrect the dead.

Boy Blunder 12-02-2019 09:26 AM

I'm staying away from the X-Books these days, outside of particular writers I wanna support. The absolute boneheaded nature of some of the retcons going on with the whole line are just insane. I get that Hickman is a fan, but he seems to be moving the franchise backwards, rather than forwards.

I do appreciate all the recent 'shock value' deaths that got undone though. Not all the deaths, but a lot of the 'we'll kill this character solely to show how high the stakes are and also because we aren't doing anything with this character' deaths.

Dr Kain 12-02-2019 10:08 AM

I've pretty much given up on all modern day comics. I read this Doctor Strange book last month where he teamed up with other Sorcerer Supremes and there seemed to be way too much angst and less super heroing. It's sad when the highlight of a Doctor Strange book is Spider-Man's quippage and a joke dealing with Howard the Duck.

There's so much stuff for me to read fromm the Silver Age and Bronze Age that I don't even really feel the need to read the current books. It also doesn't help that the continuity of modern books is so screwed up. I go to my local library and they have like 4 Volume 1s from one character and they're all comics from the last like 5 years. How the hell does a character keep getting rebooted and still have new books coming out? Usually if a character didn't sell they ended it and that was it. There was no, "Well let's try again with a different team and a new origin."

usernamedustin 12-02-2019 10:21 AM

I have read most of the X-books. I think I am caught up to the beginning of this year. I hate all the resurrections too. I really liked how they used to move forward with new students that would grow up. They just stopped phasing out/aging older characters though. It does seem like the franchise is moving backward. Too many reboots right in the middle of developing plots and so many characters have just disappeared over the years and far too many have temporarily "died". I guess if Bucky gets to come back, everyone gets to come back.

I set the Alpha Flight set to my homepage. I knew Amazon would drop the price sometime around the holidays. Now I just need to get Sasquatch again. I sold mine last year because I don't like having only one member of a team and I didn't think they would do the rest. Look at me and my stupid decisions.

En Sabah Nerd 12-02-2019 11:50 AM

The only current Marvel book I've been reading and would recommend is Immortal Hulk, it started out as a calling back to the old monster comics but it has moved onto its own running plot that works.

I'm a little surprised that the Alpha Flight set is on sale today since it's only been out a month and last year the similarly paced Sentinel set wasn't put in with their black Friday/ cyber Monday sales, hell the Defenders 4 pack isn't even on sale. Still a great opportunity for anyone who was not willing to get the Alphans for standard price.

Immortal Hulk and Superior Spider-Man are the only current Marvel comics I can recommend, everything else just feels like a chore to read (at least for me!)

ariellagunas 12-02-2019 12:36 PM

I must be the only one, but I'm reading all the X-books and loving them all so far. My favourite is New Mutants (the art by Rod Rheis is beautiful), Excalibur is another highlight for me.
I for one i like that the brought up back characters like Moira back and make them more interesting. A lot of characters were killed stupidly in the past. Can't wait till they bring back Destiny. That will be exciting, because the whole timelines etc. Also enjoying Marvel Girl for first time in years.
Most of the X-men have died and come back in the past, so it might as well explain how a little more coherent than, let's say he (Kurt) teleported from heaven/hell.

Also the art is fantastic.

Of course I'm reading Hulk And a couple more. And I'm always reading past issues or runs I might have missed. Some are unexpected surprises, other are terrible.

Got Havok and Polaris today (my birthday, thanks Toyark for being the first to remember, haha), and I feel they are better than the reviews I've seen. Waiting for Jean set now.

Someone posted the FF and Spidey wave pic of Disney store in London, saying coming soon. So they might pop earlier than xmas. I'm dropping by tomorrow to get some baubles for tree, so I will ask more.

Finally I had to get a second Alpha Flight set as I love them.

Dr Kain 12-02-2019 01:57 PM

Oh god, one of my friends was telling me that Moira is now a Mutant and has teh ability to resurrect people or something. That is really lame as far as I'm concerned.
