Invasion of the Body Snatchers - Last year when I first watched this I enjoyed it, but I felt the pacing was off. This time around, I had no issue with the pacing and it was even better than it was the first time. Donald Sutherland was fantastic and the pod scene in his yard is quite creepy. Of course, that ending is outstanding and really seals the movie. I give it a 9/10.

Stranger Things 2, except for episode 7, was just as good as Season 1.

I only had time to watch the first episode so far so that's good to hear.

Happy Halloween! I've been too busy to really do anything this year besides watch a handful of appropriately-themed movies so I'm just going to take this opportunity to re-upload some pics lost during the great photobucket disaster. I was thinking about doing another movie poster jack-o-lantern but I just couldn't land on what exactly I wanted to do and I was too busy with other stuff to sit down and figure it out so instead I'll just share the last three years' efforts.

Some of those remind me of the Universal monster figures that Burger King used to give away in kids meals in the 90s.

Yes, I have those, and others, but they were not the point of that particular post.

Damn, Halloween sneak up on anyone else this year? So what were the best horror movies of 2018? I’m sure everyone’s going to sing the praises of a quiet place, but I honestly didn’t think that much of it... it was ok, but I doubt I’ll watch it again any time soon. Idid just buy the new puppet master movie on DVD, love those practical effect, FU CGI! When does the new, “forget all those previous sequels” Halloween drop?.... and is anyone else kind of pissed about it? I really liked the Halloween franchise, except of course 3, and resurrection. But the scrapping of thirty years of cannon to bring back Jamie Lee Curtis!?! And when the hell did she become Sarah Conner? I know the whole thorn thing was a bit off the rails, and yeah there were continuity issues but H4-H6 were never addressed in any of the sequels (h20, resurrection) then we got the zombie reboot, which I really like, but this new concept of movie franchises deciding which films are and are not cannon in a series is off putting to me. If they randomly just decided to do a follow up to Friday the 13th and just picked up after part 2 and erased all continuity would you not be upset? Anyway, had to start the season with a rant!

They did do that. It's pretty much what they did with the 2009 Friday reboot.

While I can understand folks being upset about the erasure of the convoluted backstory of Michael Myers, I don't have much of a problem with it, because outside of 1 and (maybe) 2...the rest of the movies were largely forgettable garbage (and that's coming from a fan of slasher flicks.) Do we really want to remember Myers taking a beatdown from Ant Man? Or Busta Rhymes? Or that whole mess with the cult? Or the thing with Myers corrupting people to evil with his touch?

I don't see the harm in retcon personally, especially if the new film turns out to be as good as early impressions are saying it will be.

kylactus 10-15-2018 06:46 PM

What about all the continuity though! You’d scrap Jamie? Cmon man, Michaels orphaned niece...who it was retconed to have actually just been adonded by her mother....who decided to fake her death to go birth josh hartnett and become headmaster of a boarding school... while her daughter was apparently raped in a mental hospital and forced to give birth to a child for Michael to, uh kill? I guess for a cult or possibly a goverment organization... who uh, I don’t know... wants Michael? For... something?...uh, thorn.? Fuck it bro, I’m with you, scrap it start over. I do hope we get some explaination where mike has been sence part 1.

Yes, I loved A Quiet Place. Also Hereditary was good and the thriller Bad Times at the El Royale was a near masterpiece.

Movies to avoid from this year include Strangers 2, Truth or Dare, Annabelle Creation, and Winchester.

BTW, I think it's about damn time they erased the whole sibling aspect from the Halloween series. For one thing, they've already done it enough, so it's time to do something new. Secondly, it was dumb as hell to begin with. He went after her originally because she stepped on his front porch. She invaded his personal bubble. There should have never been a "reason" created for that.

Oh, and H20 and Resurrection wiped out 4-6 from continuity, so why would they even address them when they didn't exist?

Bearjew 10-16-2018 12:19 PM

NECA pretty much said we would get a rerelease of video game Jason

kylactus 10-16-2018 03:04 PM

Bo, thank you for that^ It made my day. I wonder how his head would look with the hair painted black on a ML punisher body...

Dr. Karin, I don’t recall H20 takeing 4-6 out. I just assumed Lorry was a shitty parent. Didn’t they even mention Lumis and show paper clippings in reference to incidents from 4-6 in the beginning of the H20? And as far as him hunting her because she came on his porch, as was the original idea, I love it, the idea of someone targeting you for no reason is scarier than anything. But it would be awesome if the new Halloween ends with Michael, after all the killing and terror, confronts her on her porch, makes eye contact with her, and just stomps his feet, says “now were even” and runs off laughing into the night.

Dr Kain 10-16-2018 03:39 PM

No, H20 was a reboot at that time. Not only did the movie make this clear right from the opening of the movie, but even the creators stated such many times. The only clipping was that Laurie was assumed dead. There was nothing about Jamie, plus, John would have been way too old. When Halloween 4 starts, we learn Jamie's parents did 11 months prior, which means Nov of 1987. John was in high school for H20, which means he would have had to have been born around the same time as Jamie.

BTW, I haven't had time to take pictures of him yet, but I think my NECA Jason is slightly defective. All of these videos on YouTube show that his right hand is supposed to pop off to switch them with ease, but I have to heat them up to switch them as the peg will just come out with the hand instead of it being the other way around. The peg is stuck in the hand hole. I also can't seem to move his feet at all either.

Those issues aside, he's kind of cool, though I guess I expected more from him in the articulation department for being called "ULtimate" Jason.
