Thunderball - Another solid entry that takes everything that was great about Goldfinger and amps it up. The underwater scenes are so damn beautiful and I love watching the big fight at the end. The music really helps make up for the clunkiness of the fights beneath the waves, which is obviously how a fight would be. Largo is a great villain and I love how developed the entire story is as it takes its time to get moving. Oh, and the 4K remastering for the underwater scenes looks so damn vibrant and clean compared to the washed out look of the BDs.

Saboteur - It's a decent movie, though far from Hitchcock's best. Probably one of his weakest films, honestly. The ending is quite abrupt and some of the movie gets lost due to how much it hammers its message. I did like how it was the blind guy and the freaks who instantly believed the main character was innocent while the "normal" people instantly considered him guilty. Meanwhile, the rich were above the law.

28 Years Later - It was... okay. I wasn't big on Days and never saw Weeks. I thought this one was a well made movie, but nothing really happened in it. The story never really had an ending, it just stopped as if there is meant to be a sequel titled, "28 Seconds Later" or something.

Dr Kain 06-22-2025 10:13 PM

You Only Live Twice - It may be Connery's weakest film up to this point, but god damn is it such a great movie. The mystery that doesn't get revealed until the hour mark really keeps the suspense going. There are some truly exceptional pieces of camerwork, especially from one sequence where Bond is running from dock workers on a rooftop (I was waiting for Bond to ask them if they have seen any sailors). I would say my only true complaint about the film is how underwhelming Blofeld was. They have an incredible actor portraying him and then really do nothing with him.

Night of the living dead. I've only seen the abridge one that g4 use to run. It was my first time watching it. The actions of everybody mad sense for the 60s and you cant fault the effects when the industry wasnt around yet.

House of the dead. Why would anyone give Uwe Boll movie rights over an ip. So bad that it somewhat entertaining. It however is an awful movie with awful acting. Inconsistent sometimes cartoony zombies. Overall just a terrible movie.

Dr Kain 06-23-2025 08:40 PM

Tower of London - I've seen a couple of boring as fuck Vincent Price movies, but this really takes the cake. It's right up there with Cry of the Banshee and the Dr Phibes sequel in being one of his worst films.

jwyss234 06-23-2025 09:17 PM

Jurassic World Rebirth. It was the mystery movie that was showing at AMC and Regal tonight.
Still not as good as the original Jurassic Park. But I enjoyed it more than any of the previous Jurassic World trilogy films, especially Fallen Kingdom and Dominion. The T-Rex sequence was my favorite part of the film. The weakest part of the film was the mutant dinosaurs, but they're only in a 1/3 of the film.

So what island are they on in the film? Because the trailers have been all kind of confusing as some scenes make it look like a prequel when it's a sequel.

Isle Saint-Hubert. I don't think they ever said this name in the film, but it's basically a "Site C". The new island basically functions as Site B, except they were focused on making the hybrid dinosaurs like the Indominus Rex. There are regular dinosaurs on the island, but it's not clear if they were made there or if they migrated there.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service - It may not have been released in 4K yet (hopefully soon), but I can't exactly watch Diamonds are Forever without this masterpiece since this is the whole reason DAF exists. This movie is just incredible. It's well plotted, full of wonderful characters, and has some of the best action sequences in the franchise. Lazenby is a pretty good Bond and I wish he had continued on with the character for at least a few films. I'd say my only nitpicks come with some weird editing choices where there are like random jump cuts at times and some fights that are sped up for a second.

Dr Kain 06-28-2025 05:02 PM

Diamonds Are Forever - The grand finale for the Bond/Blofeld saga and it kind of goes off on a whimper. It's still a good movie, with some really good stunt work, but if I thought Savalas was a bit of a downgrade from Pleasance, Gray is like, "Here, hold my beer." Gray is just awful, but I do like the concept of Blofeld trying to fully change his appearance even though he looks like the agent that he had killed in YOLT. I'm not sure what the point of Plenty O'Toole was as she barely did anything and then died off-screen like an hour after she was last seen. The chase in the desert is great, as is the car chase in Vegas despite there being a really weird bit where the car drives through an alley with two wheels in the air but comes out the other side on the opposite side of the car, which just could not be possible. The stand-outs for this film are the obviously gay duo, Mr Wint and Mr Kidd. They are so damn awesome I wish they had been in the movie more. It's funny how today, this movie would be condemened by the ant-woke crowd just for featuring two gay characters, but back then, nobody gave a shit.

Saw Superman last night. No spoilers, great and legit "comic book" movie. Highly recommended.

jwyss234 07-10-2025 06:39 PM

Superman (2025)

It was great, and I'll definitely go back to the theater to watch it again. It's the first Superman movie that feels like it's in the DC Universe. I really enjoyed that they included more of the Daily Planet staff in the film, although Jimmy Olsen could've used MORE screen time. There were a couple of choices that felt goofy to me, but that's all I have to complain about. David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult are all fantastic in the film.

Just FYI, don't expect any Batman easter eggs. The film makes no reference to him, and I didn't spot anything for Wayne Enterprises, Gotham City, etc.

lordbest 07-10-2025 07:15 PM

K-Pop Demon Hunters. Not really my thing, but my best friend and her wife bullied me into watching it and it was surprisingly excellent.

I'm excited to see Superman, which is fun because I haven't been excited to see a DC film other than Wonder Woman since MoS was so disappointing.

Dr Kain 07-12-2025 11:47 AM

Casino Royale - The 1954 made for TV version - It was certainly... something. I mean, they definitely read the book and then decided to change most of it, but you could tell they read it. No wonder studios were hesistant on wanting to make a Bond movie again. Peter Lorre was very underutilized while the dude they got to play Bond (he's in The Twilight Zone and The Shining) was pretty boring. Names were needlessly changed, but it's still not the worst thing to ever come out from the James Bond franchise.

WallySparks 07-12-2025 02:24 PM

I just saw the new Superman movie at the theater a couple of hours ago today. I really like it.

good stuff in the movie are Mr Terrific and Krypto along with the classic Christopher Reeve music playing the whole time.

the only weird stuff were Metamorpho and his weird CGI baby. Plus the pocket dimensions having a weird digital looking anti proton river. what was up with that?

Dr Kain 07-13-2025 07:48 PM

Casino Royale 1967 - Um... okay... that was... a movie, I guess. I have no freaking idea what the hell was going on at all in this thing as it barely resembled the book at all. James Bond is apparently a retired dude who ends up taken M's place because M is killed off-screen. And then it turns out M was a pedophile and Bond has a few agents take up his identity to stop SMERSH. One of which is forgotten about by the halfway point while the other dude isn't even in the final act of the film. His role ends pretty much when Le Chiffre is killed. Then Blofeld is revealed to be the nephew of James and there's a cartoonish fight at the end that feels like they ripped off Blazing Saddles. Oh, and everyone dies or something.

Yeah, it was dogshit and I want my 2 and a half hours back.

Dr Kain 07-14-2025 10:15 PM

That was actually really good.

There were a couple of scenes ruined by the humor, one of which was at the tail end of the movie, some dodgy CGI, but the story was well told and made me care about a live action Superman again. Holt is also hands down the best live action Luthor to date!! It's about friggin time we got a Lex who felt accurate to the comics. All of the actors were fantastic.

It was also nice to have a movie that didn't redo the origin story and started when he's already established as a hero.

Weapon X 07-17-2025 10:47 AM

Superman- Just didn't do it for me. Gunn's humor and tone did not make for a good superman movie. And I did not like the Ultraman plot.

I did like Guy Gardner though.

Dr Kain 07-17-2025 09:53 PM

At least we got a proper Superman compared to that piece of shit goon that Snyder shat out.

lordbest 07-18-2025 04:55 AM

I really liked Superman. There was scene where I felt a joke undercut the emotional impact a bit but I can't even remember what scene that was it was such a minor issue. Aside from that it was astonishingly, consistently excellent. Inspired casting too, especially for Lois and Jimmy Olson. Fillion actually made me like Gardner which is amazing.

I'm also amazed they let Perry smoke his cigar.

Oh, and the fight with Mr Terrific was amazing.

On the other hand, the scene at the end of the film with Lex was completely undermined by what happened during his speech.

I don't know if I would go that far, but David is definitely a Superman I prefer.

But the plot about his parents was crazy...

It’s not that crazy. At the beginning of John Byrne’s Post-Crisis Man of Steel reboot, Jor-El tells Lara of his plan to send Kal-El to Earth to save him from Krypton’s destruction. Lara reacts negatively to this idea, and even asks Jor-El if intends for Kal-El to rule Earth and turn it into a new Krypton.

Even on Smallville, the message on the inside of Clark’s ship said that Clark should rule Earth.

jwyss234 07-24-2025 07:45 PM

Fantastic Four: First Steps

I really enjoyed this film. This really felt like the team’s movie, rather than one character’s film with three supporting teammates. While there was some humor in the film, the dialogue wasn’t as snappy and humorous as Thunderbolts. That’s not a criticism, just a matter of fact. Similar to Thunderbolts, there was no MacGuffin in this film. The conflict with Galactus was a problem to be solved.

I really enjoyed the Silver Surfer in the film. I’m not really familiar with the character outside of F4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. But I thought the action with her was pretty good. I also really liked Julia Garner’s voice. As far as changing the Silver Surfer from Norrin Radd to Shalla-Bal, I think this made sense for the story. First, her reason for becoming Silver Surfer was similar to the F4’s reason for wanting to stop Galactus. And second, part of the plot was the connection that Johnny made with her.

I’ll decide what I think is crazy. I hate it.
