. It'd be a great way to re-release classic blue Beast with the new smiling head and book, since that's what we see in the intro on the Fox Kids X-Men animated series (all we'd need are removable glasses as an accessory to 100% sell the look)
...

What do you guys think of my guess/comments?

Yes. There is no way that they won't re-release that head in blue at some point. An animated series of figures makes perfect sense. They already made the glasses and they come with Grey Beast.

StuartGreen2019 03-02-2020 11:46 PM

Oops, you're right, Grey Beast does have glasses. Sorry about that. I'd buy a retro/vintage X-Men animated series toyline in a heartbeat, the Fox Kids series is still my favorite X-Men animated series (though X-Men: Evolution is a close second). And it'd be a great way to bring in classic figures for Avalanche, Blob and Pyro and green-and-yellow suit Banshee.

urrutiap 03-03-2020 12:54 AM

i wouldnt be surprised if Hasbro was secretly already making more Classic X-Men Marvel Legends of a few certain figures such as based on the old Toybiz

Thing is though, they just made black suit Storm, X-Factor Cyclops, Iceman, Silver Samurai annd extra new Australian OUtback Dazzler.

Gambit already got made couple months ago so hes not on the list. The only Toybiz X-Men figures I can think of that are already being made or already made secretly

Generation X Chamber
Generation X Penance
Banshee
Spiral
Longshot
single card X-Factor Polaris
Stryfe
Marvel Legends Classic Toybiz street clothes Wolverine

LapuLapu 03-03-2020 01:29 AM

That grey beast head is more suitable on the jackal body

ariellagunas 03-03-2020 02:14 AM

@Boogiman

Yes, yes, XEMNNUUUUU! pretty please. Double pack with Razorback, just to bambozzle all those that have never pick up a comic book in their life.

I know I'm freaking ancient and all that, but am I the only one wanting Golden age characters? This I would love to see a box set (or two) of:

Whizzer and Miss America two-pack.
Spitfire and Baron Blood two-pack.
Human Torch I and Toro two-pack.
Blonde Phantom and Black Widow I two-pack.
The Vision I and Blazing Skull two-pack. And....
Master Man and Warrior Woman two-pack. Heck, add Isbisa and make it a threesome.
That would be a great start. I'd love to see the members of The Twelve tricking down too.

Slowly catching up to getting ML again, are the Cuckoo Twins hard to get?

The Cuckoos were the 5-in-1 and became the 3-in-1. They are a Walgreens exclusive and there are 3. I think they are getting harder to find at this point.

StuartGreen2019 03-03-2020 11:48 AM

@urrutiap - I could see them doing a Generation X retro wave as a great way of getting figures for White Queen, Banshee, Penance, Chamber, M and maybe Jubilee. It'd be a fun Toy Biz retro/vintage wave to make. If/when they make an X-Men Classics wave based on the Fox Kids animated series, I'd love to see them make:
- Rogue (since everyone's asking for Jim Lee Rogue again)
- Cyclops with an optic blast accessory (for those who missed the Warlock Build A Figure version and can't get the Wolverine/Jean/bomber jacket Cyclops boxed set)
- Magneto (for those who didn't get the Scarlet Witch/Magneto/Quicksilver set)
- Jubilee with fireworks accessories
- blue Beast (with the smiling head, glasses and book of the Grey Beast figure)
- street clothes Logan (to avoid yet another tiger-stripe Wolverine re-release, though I'm sure we'll see that soon enough)

I can see Hasbro making figures for Spiral, Longshot, Polaris and Stryfe down the line and I'm sure we'll see Banshee sooner rather than later since he's a highly-requested character.

@ariellagunas - I'd be up for Golden Age figures. Doing a Miss America and Whizzer two-pack would work for those who saw them on the Fox Kids "Spider-Man" animated series (of course, then we'd also need Black Marvel, the Thunderer and the Destroyer). A Sub-Mariner/Human Torch I/Captain America boxed set would be awesome too. Personally, I think it'd be great to see a boxed set of the Enforcers. Figures for Fancy Dan, Ox and Montana are loooooong overdue.

Funny enough I actually have the Marvel UNIVERSE 3.75" Wrecking Crew, I however don't have the Marvel LEGENDS 6" Wrecking Crew as I wasn't collecting Marvel Legends at the time that they were available on what are now most likely outdated molds. I didn't start collecting Legends until the Odin BaF wave, I picked up Scarlet Witch to scalp her magic effects for my MotUC Castaspella and the rest is history.

On another note, I finally got the Alpha Flight set (yay for tax returns) it's actually cooler than I expected, Snowbird and Aurora had some frozen limbs, Shaman's elbow was bent at really wonky angle and Northstar is pigeon-toed. Puck is surprisingly well articulated for such a small figure

While I absolutely get the consternation over the grey Beast, even going as far as agreeing with the frustration strictly on general principles - especially given the current spate of monetizing the biz model of multiple, slightly tweaked reissues ie: Danis, Hulks, Cuckoos, and now Beasts (this was exactly the pattern I was pilloried for having the temerity to note just few months back with Dani - go figure - heh can a phrase be a pun?), but with all that said there are some takeaways to like about this.

A) I like that they kept this hidden - with all the drama and spectacle surrounding various fairs and conventions, these announcements, at least for me, have become a little stale and perfunctory *at times*. Nothing like a little surprise to spice shit up.

B) Even though the lazy-factor is real here, this does represent some pretty deep fan service. Many people, myself included, were left scratching their heads and thinking WTF at the sight of a grey Hank. My era of collecting was 4-5 years after that and I was never really a fan of the original X-lineup, so I had no clue what this was related to. Kudos Hasbro you taught an old dog a new trick...

C) Lastly, I think I'd like the idea of more of this with improved execution (that is a good feature of Hasbro's biz model- they do mobilize on critical feedback) in the future. Fan service surprises revolving around tweaks to existing figs could be pretty cool if done properly. I didn't really need a toy for Arno Stark, but will I buy the tweaked fig? Team America: eff' yeah...

tierneygreen 03-03-2020 05:10 PM

I agree with your assessment 100%, TBM.

I wouldn't mind things like the Hanks, Hulks, Cuckoos and Dani if Hasbro's distribution was better. If they could at least offer retailer exclusives on Pulse as well, I'd have a chance at not having to pay some scalper's 25-50% overcharge on ebay/amazon resellers. Sadly, it's often more cost efficient for me to do that than waste gas driving between 5-10 different stores in a 45~60 minute radius trying to find a figure that online stock indicators say are available but reality and store employees say otherwise. I've essentially given up on Walgreens entirely as they're the worst about inventory and online ordering and they somehow get the figures you need to buy 3 of. Though this really peaked for me upon finding a Transformer that I'd need to get a Target credit card to obtain, allowing resellers to just go nuts with cost. How does Hasbro even let that one slide?

I dunno, it just seems kinda hard to want to keep buying a product when they keep making it difficult for me to do so. Just take my money Hasbro, I've already shown that I'm willing to buy directly from you and you haven't even done nearly as many coupon codes on Pulse as you had on HTS.

Now here is where I rant about Green Hulk being the SDCC exclusive while Gray Hulk is the widley available Fan Channel one. Or there being a Grandmaster/Korg pack rather than a Korg/Miek pack when they clearly already had plans for a Grandmaster/Collector pack. Or there being a Classic Colossus vs Juggernaut pack but no Juggernaut Colossus. Bleh.

There was a widely available green Hulk, you just had to get FA Wolverine too. As for the Colossus vs Juggernaut pack, those are two very popular characters in recognizable looks one of which was only ever a BAF from Hasbro so it was one the easiest purchases from the 80th line. There's technically nothing stopping Hasbro from giving us Colossus as Juggernaut later although I'd understand if they never did since while a neat concept it didn't last terribly long.

Vex 03-03-2020 09:54 PM

So all are aware, according to some Reddit posts, all Legends older than the new FF wave are only $10 at Walgreens right now in an unmarked sale. Uncertain how long this will last!

I feel your pain and what you say is on the minds of many collectors. It doesn't help that the hobby still seems to be reeling from the loss of TRU and the 15% hit it represented to toy sales overall. A lot of us, with the prerogative and/or time have either acquiesced to paying more or have doubled down on retail canvassing efforts. I work too much to be driving all around the place, but I likely would do so if there was some realistic expectation that I could find what I was looking for. I'd hoped that Hasbro would tighten up distribution when TRU closed and I almost wish that the fix for this issue was prioritized over niche characters or extra accessories. I'll admit, in my more cynical moments, which is like all the damn time ;), I sometimes wonder if the distribution woes and how they play into the hands of secondary-market scalpers might be part of the business model and deliberate. Who knows?

Can't disagree with a stitch of this. A few weeks ago we were talking about Gamestop's new practice of essentially price gouging Legends customers. Scarcity is a true determinant of the cost for goods and services, which brings me right back to my thoughts of whether the distribution issue is a scheme. Scalpers benefit from buying up all difficult to find goods and less than scrupulous retail outfits raise prices based on the same rarity. Would a manufacturer care either way as long as the product is moving? Scalp - win. Retail - win. Hasbro - win. Us - assed out.

It can be pretty aggravating and SDCC wares have presented weird and unpredictable trends. Despite SDCC exclusives routinely getting reissues for the past several years, for some reason, I knew the SDCC Hulk was going to end up rare and I nabbed two - not for resale, I have both still, I'm just weird. I've watched a lot of people stop collecting throughout the years for various reasons, but the fatigue of the chase and games with exclusivity feel like the most common catalysts for a jump off the wagon.

urrutiap 03-03-2020 10:33 PM

made a short quick trip to Walmart earlier tonight and they still have the Fantastic Four Super Skrull build a figure wave along with a few of the Demogoblin wave.

Tomorrow which in a few minutes anyway will be Wednesday i better grab Dr Doom and at least Susan storm or Thing for the head and body of Super Skrull so im not stuck with legs or arms

I'd argue on the Hulk thing since even the Hulk vs Wolverine pack was a 'no show' at most brick and mortar retailers and until fairly recently, was constantly sold out online. It almost seemed like a Gamestop and exclusive when it came to B&M.

As for Colossus vs Juggs, while both figures are great, they really could've just made saved Juggs for a single release like the upcoming Venom and released Colossus as a Fan channel thing and likely sold a lot more. I've seen that set collecting dust next to the Deadpool/Hitmonkey set in several Gamestops.

Technically the Hulk and Wolverine pack is also Fan Channel exclusive, hence it never showed up at Target or Walmart. The set's actually in-stock at hasbropulse right now and it independently qualifies for free shipping in case anyone is interested.

I have a question about the Avengers Infinity War and Endgame Thanos build a figure waves. Are the Avengers Infinity War Thanos bare arms compatible with the Endgame Thanos body or not since the peg joines in teh arm shoulders for the arms shaped different for the Thanos bodies?

They’re compatible, but they are different shades of purple.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be stopping by a Walgreens later today. Maybe I'll grab some custom fodder.

I, of course, was in there yesterday looking for the new DC Multiverse figures, which were also supposed to be on sale, and only found out after about the Legends

Boy Blunder 03-04-2020 09:23 AM

The Zola/Stevil pack arrived yesterday... and I hate how much I like the Stevil figure. Kinda want to get the Bob head from the Deadpool scooter pack and slap it on there, so instead of a constant reminder of a terrible storyarc, I can just have Bob in armor, to increase his durability when hanging out with Wade.

Alternately, Hasbro could just repaint him and give him the arc reactor shield and release a friggin' Civil Warrior figure in the 6" scale.
