I usually do my Christmas shopping in September or October so that I don't have to worry about it later, and so after a doctor's appointment I did so. I also decided to check MU... this place is so godawful in that regard. TRU just had three Hercs, two Nighthawks and Ultimate Parker. Thankfully I did have a chance to finally see Dark World figures and picked some of those up. They're neat.
When I was there, one of the employees unloaded the boxes for that section. I noticed one said Avengers Assemble with the $5.99 sticker on it, and one had the $9.99 sticker. Considering all they had was an Iron Man and Falcon in the $9.99s, I stuck around to see if there was something new he'd put on the shelf. Imagine my surprise when it was actually Avengers MOVIE figures inside (even though the label and box logo clearly said Avengers Assemble), which there were three pegs full of already. He didn't have anywhere to put them so he stuffed them on an empty AA peg. I couldn't find any at Target until their ridiculous $11.99 price tag caught my eye. They were stuffed behind several Iron Man 3 Assemblers, and it was just Gladiator, Iron Spider, and Astonishing Wolvie. The Wal-Mart across the street doesn't even have a peg for MU but for some reason can accommodate four pegs of those stupid low-artic Ultimate Spider-Man figures that only come in two varieties, and had AA out the wazoo (but sadly nothing I didn't already have). I also bit the bullet and ordered the Hall of Armor pack a while back from Amazon and the fucking thing still hasn't shown up despite both UPS and Amazon's tracking still saying it's "on schedule" for delivery on Goddamn October 10th. I've e-mailed both entities and they're pointing fingers at each other. Lovely. |
Honestly, I really don't see any upshot of the whole "release a crap line and quality line at the same time" approach Hasbro is taking. I'd think that clogging a store's aisle space with a bunch of crap that even their target 3-5 year old market won't touch isn't sweetening the value view of Marvel any with major retailers. And we're all still having a hard time finding the figures worth buying... so essentially as consumers we're back at square one following their new "release strategy" of sticking an Avengers label on everything to increase circulation.

I got my Hall of Armor the next day I ordered mine...

Amazon says they're sending a replacement that is guaranteed to arrive Saturday. Hopefully I can count on that.

Quick question: are there any figures anywhere in this scale that come with a top hat?

I don't think you can beat Walmarts deal on this set right now, especially with quick free site to store shipping. Picked it up tonight, Stark's eyes are straight, and rearranged the "Hall" into what will probably be how I display it from now on. Stoked. =)

Dark Elf is still up surprisingly.
That Hall of Armor looks nice but still not ready to pull the trigger. I'm going to hold off until the price is cheaper or someone casts Tony Stark as a kit (hint hint Vortious). |
After opening up and checking out the figures in my Hall of Armor set, everything is great EXCEPT the huge downer that the MK42 has basically no shoulder articulation due to the shoulder pads being molded onto the ball itself (as opposed to the ML style collarbone mounted pads). Even as a swivel joint, the pads keep it from smoothly swinging 360 degrees around without excessively forcing it. It almost completely sucks the joy out of this figure for me... lol. I'm in the process of shaving and carving out the shoulder pads for better range of motion, but as is, the MK42 can't raise its arms at all. Weaksauce.

Is Dark Elf rare or something, then? It's the only figure I didn't see at TRU and now it looks like people are scrambling to find one.
