The Walgreens-exclusive Iron Man 2020 is starting to hit. I want this one real bad.

^ Those effect pieces are so nice... makes me kinda wish they got rid of the BAF pieces and just gave us more accessories. I only ever completed 3 BAFs in my entire life... and none at launch... and none paying regular price for every figure.

I'm not a terribly huge Iron Man fan (yet I've somehow amassed a bunch of Iron Man figures over the years) but this one I'm actually excited for. The 80th Iron Man was a beast, and this one looks even better...minus those peering eyes, which I'm probably just going to black out in the long run.

They even managed to assemble the arms and boots correctly this time it seems. Glad to see I shouldn't pull this one apart like I had to with the last one. Hopefully those effects will work with Crimson Dynamo and any of the other larger robotic type BAFs.

I hope we see a proper (Non MCU) "Ultimates" Iron Man sometime soon.

Not Digging the Iron Man 2020. He look to me he was designed in the Mid 70's to 80's Deco.

EvilMonkeyPope 04-20-2020 01:08 AM

He was.

Thor Laserpunch 04-20-2020 11:30 AM

He's from the future... circa 1984.

Back in good ol' 1984 2020 WAS a cool future timesline in an alternate Universe: Arno Stark was the son of Morgan Stark, Tony Stark's cousin, in the alternate reality of Earth-8410 in the year 2020. Arno, inheriting Stark Industries, became one of the wealthiest, but most brutal businessmen in the field. In this reality, he and other corporations found a way to take over the government and lived the lives or tyrants. Aron, just like his relative Tony Stark, was extremely smart and build a more advanced Iron Man armor, which he used for acts of crime and only for the benefit of his own welfare. He used his suit mostly for bounty hunting, mercenary work, and sabotaging and destroying his competitors. Even killing those whom opposed him was no problem to him. Arno Stark first appeared in a dark future where the superhero known as the Machine Man was revived by a resistance-group of hackers whom tried to overthrow the new government of Arno Stark. The group was hunted down by Arno's policing forces with heavy casualties, but eventually, Machine Man and his group managed to halt Aron Stark's plans to dominate the world. He had lost the battle, and a striking blow for the resistance, but had not yet lost the war.

Dark Beast is sold out on Pulse because Millennials love Kelsey Grammer in metal trousers.

Yeah, this pretty much sums up the awesomeness of Arno Stark back in the day, other than the whole "plans to dominate the world" bit, which I don't recall happening in the 1984 Machine Man limited series that he debuted in (I just re-read it recently). Arno was indeed used the armor for bounty hunting, mercenary work, and sabotaging/destroying his competitors, but I believe that was just it...he was a businessman first and foremost, and didn't really seem to have Dr. Doom-style world domination goals beyond that. In the MM series he was mainly very high-level hired muscle for Sunset Bain in her fight against Machine Man.

Overall, the 1984 Machine Man series was a really good and original 4-issue series and I recommend that you read it if you already haven't. And yeah, it was set in the then "far off and futuristic" year of 2020, and it's always good for a laugh when sci-fi future dates catch up with the modern era (Back to the Future 2 was based in 2015 and Blade Runner was in 2019). Sadly, we don't have flying motorcycles yet.

Anyway, I've always had a soft spot for Arno/IM2020. There's something about his design that was just cool, unique, and threatening, and the fact that he was an "evil" Iron Man (not really evil, just more morally ambiguous) was pretty unusual back then.

Funny quirk of Arno Stark in the MM series- he would LITERALLY go around referring to himself as "the Iron Man of 2020." Like, multiple times, not just on his intro splash page. Like, who would do that? It would be like I went around saying "I'm the Dolemite of 2020." lol.

Oh, BTW, if you watched the video review above and were wondering what the "fan" was on Arno's right hip, it's actually a huge throwing star weapon.

Actually, the visible eyes are directly from the comic.

I actually liked being able to see his eyes...it made him look a little more threatening.

Bo Ttef 04-20-2020 03:55 PM

You don't refer to yourself as The Dolemite of 2020?

Dr Kain 04-20-2020 04:34 PM

I finally said fuck it and picked up the effects set Black Widow at Target today as I need something cool to cheer me up. Still no sign of Deadly Origin yet.

LOVE THIS!!!

I still have my original promotional poster I got from my local comic shop back in the day.
The one that looks like a western wanted poster.
Got it signed by Jim Lee last year and it is now framed in my fan man cave.

Packaging artist David Nakayama has teased there’s a shit-ton more X-Men coming this year:
“there’s quite a bit more in the X-vein coming soon. There are some classic ones. They did show at Toy Fair some of the New Mutants and X-Force-type characters you mentioned. Strong Guy’s the build-a-figure, so he doesn’t have an illustration, but Sunspot does, so that’s a group to look forward to. So there’s that wave, there’s some retro stuff and there’s a really, really exciting collection that no one will see coming and I cannot wait to show you–but stay tuned. The coolest Hasbro-Marvel-X-Men thing that you could possibly imagine is coming. I just can’t talk about it yet.”

So, let the rampant wish-listing/ speculation begin. The rest of the 70s team? That Sentinel they teased? Dawn of X figures?

MeLikeJinx 04-21-2020 08:12 AM

^ By classic I hope he means classic Excalibur... need that Shadowcat... and the rest of them too.

I guess my question would be, when did he say that? If it was before the coronavirus got into full swing and disrupting much of the world, I would guess that many late 2020 plans may have shifted to early 2021. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a six month delay on a lot of stuff. The good news is that it sounds like we will have a lot of cool stuff coming at some point.

Interview was from like a day ago. But I think he’s going off of things he heard earlier in the year. At this point, I have no expectations for what product we actually see the rest of this year. That said, indeed, we do have stuff to look forward to mutant-wise... eventually.

Ah, I see. Yeah it's possible it could still be current plans then, just depends on when he heard it. It sounds similar to what was heard around NYTF. Hopefully we see at least some it before 2020 ends. At this point the only things I'm thinking are for sure for 2020 are the Avengers Game wave, the AOA wave, and the Vintage Spider-Man, Venom and Strong Guy wave it's kind of on the fence if they make it this year or early 2021.

Which, funnily enough, is closer wave count was was closer to what we were getting a few years ago. That is still 5-8 waves this year (adding in BW, F4 and Demigoblin waves in). And I'm still confused if the Fox X-Men are packs or a wave. So that might even be another wave. It's not like 8 waves is a small amount.
