I have not found a good method. I've tried splitting the torso, heat n pop, splitting the upper thigh, and enlarging the ball joint hole.
Nothing works consistently. I don't like splitting torsos. Heat and pop only works sometimes and too much or too little heat can cause the ball peg to snap off. If you can get at it carefully, you can use a X-acto knife to open the seam of top of the hip a bit and then pop it off. You can also carefully enlarge the peg hole with a file/dremel.
I have had every method work and every method fail. Enlarging the peg hole gave me the best end result, but took the most time.

If you mean the She-Rulk/Thundra body, all you can do is crack the lower torso, there's a walk through tutorial on The Fwoosh and I'll link it below, the title is something like Fix Red She-Hulk or Modifying Red She-Hulk, I actually picked up a second A-Force She-Hulk to try it with but I just haven't had a chance to sit down and do it.

Thanks to both of you.

What about the hips on the ones just under that size? Ms Marvel, Spider-Woman, Scarlet Witch, Enchantress, etc.? Same thing as your first post dustin?

I'll probably use my smallest dremel bit and grind out a groove to help pop the top of the thigh off. That or the x-acto. I'll have to play with both depending on case.

Yeah, it's the same thing. On a couple figures, like retro Black Widow, I was able to just pry the legs off without any heat. I also destroyed some hips and ball pegs that way. I find dremeling the hip socket is easier to hide and less risky than cracking a torso, you just have to be careful to not hit the ball peg. I don't like swapping those kinds of hips much and thankfully Hasbro is using the easy pop-off one piece hip more on newer figures.

It definitely depends on the character, Psylocke, Walgreen's Emma and White Rabbit will all pop off the ball peg with some heat. The other characters you mentioned are more difficult because the upper leg part that attaches to the torso is a two part piece made of harder plastic, heat doesn't do much, if you're lucky it'll loosen up the glue, you basically have to crack it to get off the peg and results really vary, I've had it come apart super easy, and I've them break and be ruined

Nutimus Prime 05-30-2020 10:34 AM

Thanks again both of you. The hard plastic hip on some of them is definitely annoying to work with.

In unrelated news, my son informed me that Sugarman took a tumble off the X-Men shelf. Luckily nothing broke that I can tell. Phew.

sh002 05-30-2020 11:37 AM

I wish that Venom figure could ab crunch and rotate at the thigh more.

I found Crossbones with a decent paint job today, so yay, something good happened today.

I'm so glad I didn't buy Select Colossus and just waited a few years for the Legends version to come out.

Thanks guys...these are the type of responses I was hoping to hear out of people. You guys were the only ones who answered. :( Still would like to hear what anyone thinks on the matter...

I'm sure that Hasbro will eventually get around to giving us a Venom on the vintage card with an animated head not unlike what we're getting with Green Goblin....but to hell with it...I can't be bothered to wait. I got myself a new project to work on...

Just trying to figure out if want to do that weird pink/blue outline that Venom had on the animated series just for authenticity's sake, or if I want to stick with just solid black. I remember hating that outline as a kid.

Also, what were you asking about? I must have missed the post.

Lightweight? That's five fifths lying there. You try drinking a whole gallon of Shiraz and not looking like that. :D

I don't know where those bottles came from originally. I got em in a parts lot and they are labeled 'Shiraz'.

SymbiSpidey 05-30-2020 04:13 PM

Man, that Leader is the very definition of simple, yet effective. I love that they just went straight up classic comic book with the bright and bold yellow and orange, offset with his green skin and the black stripe on the chest. Probably my favorite figure of the Abomination wave (which is shaping up to be a surprisingly cool assortment).

What's your address? I'll ship you the gallon of shiraz if you make a video of yourself drinking the whole thing.

Hey Spyne, what I was asking, was about a week ago, I chopped up and repainted my old Marvel Select Ultimate Venom figure in order to customize my current Brock Monster Venom, and while I satisfied with how it came out, it didn't come without a degree of guilt with it.

What I was asking folks here, was as Hasbro continues to fill out our collections with remakes that are supplanting our older versions, how do you feel about turning older figures into fodder parts? Not reselling...(because for some reason, I struggle less with that.) I'm talking about turning those figures into actual fodder. Accessories aside are one thing, as they can easily be swapped back and forth between figures (all of my current Hasbro Goblins are riding Toybiz gliders atm)...what I'm referring to is more permanent changes that often cannot be reversed, such as removing and dremeling headsculpts and body parts?

It's something that I struggle with personally, as I tend to not resell or dump off the older figures in my collection. We often have spent a great deal of money, time and resources collecting these things, so purposely breaking them or chopping them up, even if they are to make improvements to another figure, feels destructive and wasteful to me sometimes. There's something about keeping those original figures in their original state that appeals to me...as if I'm preserving history somehow because those older figures are a time capsule of sorts. I was just wondering if anyone out there has similar hangups?

Totally 100% agree! Never been a fan of Hulk sized Venom. Classic Eddie Brock McFarland version is the one & only version that I'll ever need.

Like how classic? I ask because I always saw Leader with his head buldged out as opposed to the style the figure has it.

It's funny cause it's the truth. I mostly collect X-Men stuff, but I have these 6 Avengers and I wanted to have some villains. I couldn't really figure out who Iron Man's main villain was. There are a few that are pretty big, but no one like Cap and the Red Skull or Thor and Loki. Maybe it was just the era of Avengers I grew up reading (I read my uncle's old back issues) but it seems to me like alcohol was the greatest battle in Iron Man's history.

It depends on the figure. Mostly on age and just general quality of the figure, like is it a good toy/figure just on its own and not compared to something new and shiny. Toybiz stuff is almost all fodder to me except for the few figures that Hasbro hasn't done, like Longshot, Mojo, etc. Hasbro Legends either get resold or straight to fodder if I get a new version of the character.

I don't know either.

I mean yeah, pretty much right up to the modern era it's been the Mandarin and booze. His classic villains are largely a bunch of bozos.

That's awesome, could you give me some pointers on dimensions thinking of doing something similar though on the sunfire body mold. I'd recommend doing both paint apps

Just wondering how some of you felt about it?

I feel mostly the same way. The exception is when I buy something with specific intent to customize it. I don't even like taking spare accessories for customs since it'll leave the originals incomplete.

I've got a custom in the works that needs the original MCU antlered Hela head. I've become attached to this even though I've got the upgraded version, so I decided I needed one to keep unmodified. Unfortunately this seems to be the one Hela head nobody is parting with anymore. The only loose one I found was in a lot with other heads I don't want. I asked the seller about just buying the one & they declined. Then the lot was relisted with even more fodder.

I agree. Mandarin was the only one I felt was the major villain, but there isn't a good figure. I would make a custom, but I feel like Hasbro has to make a classic Mandarin figure eventually. I would freak right the fuck out if they did Red Skull, Loki, and Mandarin in the same way as the 80th Cap, Thor, and Iron Man.
