These look ok. Wonder what these will ACTUALLY look like. Hasbro's pics and what shows up on shelves often don't match. Especially with face printing.

omega145 07-14-2020 10:02 AM

BBTS put up a pre-order alert also.
As much as I love almost anything X-men, I knew i'd pass on movie figures. These images only reaffirm that decision. Overall IMO, they look like most other cheap looking movie figures that don't have much of the likeness of the actors. That is the problem with movie figures and has been for a while. Hard to get a really good likeness in 6" scale and its easy to notice when a sculpt doesn't look like a person compared to a superhero who changes appearance depending on artist drawing them.

Spyne98 07-14-2020 10:11 AM

Passing on the X-Men movie figures too. Saves me $100.

Dr Kain 07-14-2020 10:17 AM

I'll wait until I see the Prof X/Mag two pack in stores to buy it.

Panther 07-14-2020 10:28 AM

Definitely not passing on these. I don’t think I’ve ever preordered anything so fast. I really like how these came out.

Neca did great on their Chris Reeve Superman and Heath Ledger Joker 6” figures. It CAN be done. Hasbro generally does great with the starwars black series.

Okay, I love the original 'X-Men'. It's actually my favorite of the X-Men films. But seeing these 20th anniversary figures makes me cringe. These just look bad. I get not everyone loves Marvel's figures by Toy Biz and they they look dated, ugly, or whatever. But what Toy Biz did with their X-Men movie figures look light-years better than these figures. How did Hasbro make new figures look inferior to the original 20 year old toys? Then again, this might be the Toy Biz fanboy in me, since I loved a majority of their Marvel figures and bought quite a lot of it before most of my collection ended up being ruined and had to be thrown away due to a bad move to a new home in 2017.

Mystique looks the most tolerable, but why give her a normal arm instead of two different Raven Darkholme heads? Her "Grace" disguise in 'X2' and her normal head with black hair in 'The Last Stand' would've made more sense. Even her Caucasian head from 'First Class' would've been all right.

Magneto seems to be the worst offender. They gave him multiple heads, but put what appears to be the First Class helmet on an Ian McKellen likeness head instead of his original trilogy helmet. And WOW, those Ian McKellen likeness heads sure look terrible compared to the old prototype. Why did Hasbro change it? If Professor X was sold separately, I would've bought him. He looks pretty good and the body would be great for alternate heads of previous figures, like the J. Jonah Jameson head from the old Chameleon figure or the new Norman Osborn head from the retro Green Goblin. But being paired with Magneto? I'm afraid I'll have to pass.

I'm on the fence about Logan. He's not as bad as he could've been. But he's not exactly getting me excited, either.

Also, why are these boxes so plain? You'd think they would've at least slapped on a "X-Men: The Movie Series - 20th anniversary" or whatever title to raise more excitement for these figures. They didn't even use the retro packaging of the "X-Men: The Movie" figures that Toy Biz did, which would've been great for old-time collectors.

I was hoping this would be a reveal of more X-Men: The Movie 20th anniversary stuff, not showing us photos of the same old figures but now with pre-order links. This feels like a cheat to me. Showing one or two new figures wouldn't be so bad, like Storm, Nightcrawler or Lady Deathstrike. If they had, say, even a two-pack, like 'X-Men: The Movie' figures for X-Men uniform Wolverine and Sabretooth or 'X2' versions of Jean Grey and Cyclops, then that'd be fine. That would've been a new, exciting reveal for collectors and they could've included links to pre-order the Mystique, Logan and Xavier/Magneto figures as well. Heck, a Bobby Drake and Rogue from 'X-Men' with a foosball table accessory would've been more interesting to me than this. Unfortunately, this is 0 for 3 to me from Hasbro. The toyline is also repeating the same mistake that the 20th Century Fox film series did - they focused on Logan, Mystique, Xavier and Magneto and the other X-Men are ignored.

I sincerely hope that we'll get some new Marvel Legends figures reveals from the Comic Con at Home that live up to the hype. At this point, they'd just show me someone new and it'd be an automatic win in my book. And seeing any requested figure from Firestar to Banshee would just be icing on the cake.

Anyway, that's just my two cents -- though that's two cents more than my opinions are actually worth. Thanks for reading my nonsense and I hope you all have a great day. Stay safe, everyone.

Good points all around. I really hate the weird separate hair on the unmasked McKellen head too, it looks like he's wearing a plastic hair helmet! Makes me worried for any potential 20th Anniversary Spidey figures we may get...

Really? wow. Totally opposite here. I had the Toybiz Xmen figures and they all looked like crap, especially the Wolverine, Sabretooth, and Magneto figures. These look slightly better. Also, Ian McKellen helmet IS from the original movies, not First Class.

StuartGreen2019 07-14-2020 11:04 AM

@webz - Well, everyone has different tastes. I'm genuinely glad you're excited about the new figures though. I just felt disappointed by the new figures, is all. I also just saw the photos of the back of the box and that made me even more disappointed. It's just a shadowy photo of the character(s) from that Hasbro promo pic from yesterday. We don't get a bio for the character, get told what movies he/she appeared in with that look -- nada. Why did Hasbro go so generic with packaging for a 20th anniversary film?

Also, you're correct about Magneto's helmet. The photo of the helmeted Ian McKellen from the in-box photo on the previous page made it look like the First Class helmet due to the coloring of the helmet in that photo. Sorry for the mix-up.

sh002 07-14-2020 11:10 AM

I hope Hasbro at least releases as many figures as Funko Pop has for their X-Men 20th Anniversary line.

Hasbro is having an identity crisis. The brass wants to continue to push mediocrity and the cheap, high profit junk of the 1990's that Walmart sells well, but the designers want to make fun figures that appeal to a wide range of people from 8 year olds to 50 year olds, but those cost more to make... so they meet in the middle, not satisfying either.

hasbroherofan 07-14-2020 11:39 AM

Liking the Stewart likeness. Hopefully the others look better in hand.

Boy Blunder 07-14-2020 11:47 AM

So, was... was this the big thing for today? Because the discrepancy between their hype and our reality is pretty notable.

I can realate to that, and feel the same way

Captain Nash 07-14-2020 12:03 PM

Something I CAN get excited about today - my shipping label for the Strong Guy wave has been created. If it sticks to the normal pattern, USPS will pick up either today, tomorrow or thursday at latest and I should have by Friday/Saturday maybe Monday at latest.

Thank you Dorkside! I know you weren't in control of this getting here 3 months early, but it's fantastic for all that it did.

I'm just happy that my Gray Beast is on its way. Should be here next Monday.

Agreed, I think most people would say that the Toybiz X-men figures were not very good and these might be a step up but not far enough for me to even call them good figures.
For some perspective:
Toybiz X-Men - 4/10
New Movie X-Men - 5.5/10

That's exactly how I feel and would almost rate them the same. It's not that big of an improvement and considering I wasn't thinking about getting them that strongly it's a good pass. Maybe they'll be on deep discount next year sometime.

Thor Laserpunch 07-14-2020 12:36 PM

I think that 2-pack is gonna be on clearance soon enough.

Veronica Mars 07-14-2020 12:40 PM

As fair as anyone is saying this is it today

I will echo this sentiment. For the past few movie-based waves Hasbro has solicited unflattering images and then the final product looks notably better, shit the Black Widow wave images were hand-painted but the final products definitely still use the printing.

I'm not going to pre-order any of these but I will keep an eye on the Wolverine and Magneto/Xavier pack to see how they turn out.

Hasbro has been mining the Classics pretty hard lately- I would love to hear some news about some more modern figures- Where's Miss America or Kid Omega? (hopefully see Quentin in the hinted at House/Powers wave but he didn't have anything to do with the story line so not holding my breath for him)

I received a spare Retro Grey Beast and 2 Boom-Booms today. The smiling head will be painted blue and given to my other Beast along with the glasses and book. I’ll see how the glasses look on the custom calm head I got from ibmmt while he’s wearing his white lab coat. I might make an Outback Rogue and Excalibur Phoenix from the 2 Boom-Booms. I think I’ve seen the tips of toothpicks used for spikes.

I'm actually pretty surprised we haven't seen America Chavez or Riri Williams yet. I'd also like a Zarda to go with the Nighthawk and Hyperion we have, they have the new She-Hulk body, what's the hold up?
