Morning Mail Haul:
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...60435a87_c.jpg With most of the upcoming X-men anniversary sets & individuals starting to trickle out early, can we assume the Target Storm/Thunderbird set will be on its way soon, too? It's the only one I wasn't able to get a hold of at pre-order, and I MUST have this set. |

Quick note on the sudden, tragic, and unsettling death of Chadwick Boseman. As another poster mentioned, I'm generally not one to confer a great deal of meaning to the passing of public personalities with whom I've no personal knowledge or interaction. However, I do appreciate the cinematic legacy this wonderful human being has left and am taking a moment to memorialize/venerate/acknowledge his passing and my sadness as a result.
The body of Boseman's work is really pretty impressive and more poignant than some might realize on first blush, especially given the brevity with which his light shined. The bulk of Boseman's impact will likely be attributed to Black Panther and the cultural 'importance' some attribute to this role. Personally, I believe this to be just a tad overblown, but only because I've been an advocate and proponent of Pan-African inter-connectivity since I learned about the concept when reading about luminaries like Du Bois and Garvey as a preteen - coupled with the reality that the character of BP, despite my love for it, represents a fictionally idealized construct neither owned, controlled, nor consistently influenced by the diaspora it's meant to target thus offering little in the way of sustained/actual empowerment. However, in spite of my opinions, I understand the importance of this flick to many and don't mean to diminish that in any way. However, that said, this man was thoughtful and deliberate in ALL of his roles choosing to portray a litany of important culture figures and participate in weighty conceptual theatrical works all throughout his career. Whether he was putting in that WORK on autobiographical efforts for individuals like Thurgood Marshal, Jackie Robinson, or James Brown. Or, if he was portraying fantastical characters like BP and Thoth; Chadwick was steadfast in delivering/introducing audiences to ideas outside the purview of mainstream cinema and for that, I will sorely miss him. In an age in which societies worldwide have grown more intolerant to expressions and cultures different from their own, I hope people can remember how Chadwick Boseman may have touched them with is innate grace, regal nature, and ultimately humble bearing. We all have qualities that resonate within others and I hope in mourning Chadwick's passing we can remember the ties that bind are more important than the bullshit that separates... Quote:

I'm always lucky since the Targets near me are usually really good with exclusives. Red Hulk was the only one I remember being hard to find.

Oh yeah, I love popfindr. Been using it for quite awhile now. Phenomenal how accurate it truly is. Reminds me of GameStop's old inventory tracker before they nerfed it. My issue with the Baroness exclusive was more about both of my Target stores only getting one set per store. Never had a chance. I'm about a hour and a half away from my local Targets and both sold out far before I was even off from work. Quote:

Thank you, Blue Marvel, for your thoughtful comments on Chadwick Boseman.
I also, didn't know the man, but I've been rather upset since I find out, and didn't know how to comment on his passing. All I know is that he was a talented, charismatic, and kind actor, and he has become an icon for a generation. His interpretation of Black Panther on the screen has been an inspiration for black kids (and kids in general, I've bought so many BP figures for all my friends kids ). The other reason it upsets me is his youth. Cancer is a horrible illness, but it's devastating when it affects so early in life. My grandfather also died young from it, so I get check every year, in case it's genetic, like other illnesses seem to be. I wonder if we'll see more people having regular checks because of this. I hope so. My sympathies to his family and friends. I surely won't forget him in a hurry and will watch his movies for years to come. Rest in peace King. |
Nevermind.

Instead, you have now spent two posts over the question because the entitled stick up your ass couldn't resist being a dick when you could have just answered the question and received a "Thank you" as a response, but because the internet lets you be a dick, you decided to be a dick. For someone who doesn't care about questions being asked, you sure seem intent to argue such a trivial matter. |
